Ebon Gate - Dates on 08/21/2013 04:22 AM PDT

Since there are people who need to request time off work before it gets too late, I'll go ahead and post the dates we're expecting to run everything this year. While I don't see this changing, it isn't set in stone until the official Ebon Gate announcement is published.

Platinum will start on October 18th. Prime and Shattered will start on October 25th. Ebon Gate will be closing in all instances on October 31st at midnight.

Get those PTO requests in now, those of you who (unlike me) still have any PTO...

The festival is short one day too, Halloween is on a Thursday and I doubt you'll see much on that day anyway. I think I would have preferred it November 1st to the 8th but oh well. Ending on Halloween is better than starting on Halloween!

That does seem fairly out of whack...

Post RtCF GM burnout will be a likely explanation.

I don't think I've ever gone to Ebon's Gate. Outside of the auctions they sometimes have, is there typically anything sold at this that's worth going for? Or is it mostly just digging games, 4x gear, and fluff?

The previous year was alot of fun, with an all new layout, games etc.

They do hold raffles and partake in quite a bit merchant events as well. It's worth it if they intend on having a paid one, otherwise the free ones were kinda meh from time to time. But there are definitely worthwhile things there to attend for, like enchanting, and many other custom adding of things like Grimbanes and crap.

It has been the same for the last two years (2012 and 2011). I hope it's different this time. But these recent Ebon Gates aren't as impressive as the Ebon Gate festivals years ago.

I haven't been in 3 (?) years so I'm excited regardless. EG has always been my favorite festival. Squee, and whatnot.

I'm a little sad they're dropping the length down. 6 days of games this year! =(

I think it is best for us though Riend, one less day to lose 100,000 coins or more. Stupid games, stupid carousel addiction! LOL
I am looking forward to see what the new quest is though. I need to get my carousel recharged too.

Normally I'd agree, but with classes this year Friday was my day off to do all my shopping and what-not!

Also, I'm fulling expecting the group to go, so you had best start making the decision of which game you like the best and want to spend 20 hours on!

Last year was my first EG and I thought it was a lot of fun. Depending on how much time you wanted to spend on the games, the tier 5 stuff was pretty nice generally. There were a metric shitload of GALD merchants, to the point where you could max light/deep all of your stuff assuming you don't have 3 lockers' worth. Lots of spinner services and a bunch of rounds of perm ranger boxes and wand staves, the wand gloves, etc.

A+++ would EG again.

EG is all about making new friends and hanging out with old ones with the fun creepy Halloween feeling. Sometimes the only time I meet up with people is at EG. It is what you make of it. There are some nice raffles in the past and some cool off the counter gear.

GALD's galore and fun people and digging, games, oh my!

I'm working on my alteration ideas now Riend, but I don't have much to alter. I am looking forward to the group!

EG is, without a doubt, my favorite festival in the game. That being said, I didn't like as much the last two which were at the Village of Velathae (or however the hell you spell it). It was MUCH better as the grounds past the ACTUAL Ebon Gate.

Think of it this way:
RtCF is for gear, and the numbers
EG is for Alters, making stuff pretty, and GALD.

You're unlikely to get padding, weighting, enchanting, or any of that mechanical advantage stuff work done at EG... however, I know the one year I went (in like, 2003), I manage to snag about a dozen alters, and maxlight/deepen about 5 items.

EG also typically introduces new innovations in items. I think pipes, scribers, labels, all types of new scripted unlockable stuff, chrism holders were all pioneered at Ebon's Gate Festivals. Pretty much every year there's a new type of item that's introduced that's an instant hit.

My first EG was the first EG. Since then, EG has always been my character's favorite, being a sorcerer, and inclined with the Lornon side.

I agree. I still cherish my dead pets, broomsticks, cauldrons, "mad scientist" jars and beakers, disemembered body parts, screeching and howling scabbards, foul-themed clothing, remembrance hair mementos...
