Zepath flashback:

When I saw the Prodigy ad for GS3 I took a look at the (few) player sites - the maps hooked me.

durribbitting whippersnappers, stop reminding me how old ah am! It's not nice!
At least no one has mentioned how much it cost...per hour mind you...to play GSIII on Genie...
And so far, I haven't run into any other British Legends wizards (that was on CompuServe)...I went into debt at the time for that game...

Heh. I do not remember who was being quoted (maybe Robert/Krakii?) but there was this old (decay/droppage days) snippet of a phone conversation that came up...
[xxxxx] Hello?
[xxxxx] You are dead where?
[xxxxx] DON'T YOU REALIZE IT'S PRIME TIME?
-----
Yeah those were bigbucks days, $15hr rings a bell.

This is amazing. Zepath's maps seem so small now but the world was so damn big back then.

They added a lot since '96 though... I don't think Icemule even existed back then.

Sweet baby jesus; Azryel's website. I'd forgotten all about this. Holy fucking nostalgia.

I know this gets asked every time there's a nostalgia thread, but how did that real gem thing work anyway? Does anyone know someone who actually won, and what did they get? Used to see XXXXXXX JUST FOUND A REAL GEM! every once in a while.

I got one. It was a garnet or something. Found it in an inn near Solhaven I think. They just send you a chip of a gem inside a little container heh.

Friends of GMs "found" them.

I believe Icemule came into existence in late 96 or early 97. Teras came into being...I *think*...around early 96. I've been racking my brain trying to remember if Icemule was around when Teras was introduced, and I don't think so, but it's been a long time. Anyone remember for certain?

A few years ago they released a bunch in Plat, and a number of us found one (or more, though you can only cash in one). No GM friendship required.

I got one too...an amethyst. Still have it on a shelf (it's not much to look at)

Teras Isle was around before Icemule Trace. GM-controlled Trevor Dabbings lead a group of us to there for the release of Icemule and introduced us to the town. I wish I could find the old log I have of it. Time to search the old floppy disks.

Yeah, so in July 2006 they put a whole bunch of real gems into both instances.
>go tent
[Healer's Tent, Treatment Room]
A sense of relief and anticipation pervades the softly-lit tent. The makeshift room, small and crowded with the ill and wounded, contains the astringent odor of balms and ungents. Old rugs depicting the healing powers of various deities and magical practices lie on the ground. At the far end of the tent stands a long, padded table. You also see the famed empath Surtey Akrash.
Obvious exits: out
>.la table
>look in table
>look on table
There is nothing in there.
>look under table
On the padded table you see some full leather.
>look behind table
[script done]
Under the padded table you see a large peridot.
There is nothing behind there.
>get peri

Under the onyx bench you see a large garnet and a small apple.
There is nothing behind there.

You have already claimed a special gem within the last six months, so this gem will be recycled back into the world. This is now an ordinary gem which you may sell at the Gemcutter's shop.
>snap
You snap your fingers.
SEND[Ysbail] Hey there, one to a customer :-)
And they aren't worth much in game or out:
>appr peri
You ask the dealer to appraise a large peridot.
The gem dealer takes the large peridot and inspects it carefully before saying, "I'll give you 100 for it if you want to sell."

Yeah, the shipping and handling costs on these might have exceeded their actual value...

Teras was late 95 or early 96. I remember standing in line to get gems behind Giantshield who was getting ready to get on a boat with all the GSII people that were sick of us young prodigy/aol people.
I remember everyone being scared of Bleeds and me wondering how he could be so terrible when he wore sandals. LOL
Anyone remember the merchant weighting stuff who set up shop in warfies?

I'm just really glad that in their website, they address those conflicts with Windows 3.1 auto-dialers. I mean geeze.

Bleeds killed me...twice. I wish I still had the logs, but the 5 1/4" floppies didn't stand the test of time.

Does anybody have a pic of the old AOL splash screen? The one with the random group of adventurers next to a signpost? I thought I had it saved somewhere, but can't seem to find it. :/
