If there is someone you know in game, you interact with them pretty well, they seem to be nice enough people behind the characters, and they don't offend you too often...what do you do when they turn into (or you finally perceive that they are) idiots?

Do you honor your previous cameraderie and support them even when you know they are wrong?

Do you e-mail them and attempt to get them to change their mind even if it seems to be obvious that they won't listen?

Do you join the people chastising them for their idiocy disregarding previous interaction?

Do you ignore the situation and let nature take its course and avoid future interaction with them?

Do you play dumb and ignore their idiotic outbursts forever, and still hang around them?

Do you post on the PC asking silly questions that the person in question is likely to read and go nutso on you?

Quite the quandry...

Leave them forever , or tell them to stop being a jerk.

Depends on the situation really. But don't hang with a dickhead.
Why would you even consider it?

I've left plenty before , for this exact reason.

If you think they are now idiots then stop interaction with them. Why would you want to subject yourself to someone you percieve as an idiot.

I've let this situation happen a couple before and just ignored it. I figured...they are just letting off some steam, let them do their own thing.

But it is getting excessive now, however I don't feel I have a leg to stand on in calling them a jerk since I let it go before.

I haven't really interacted with the person in a long time (mostly because I haven't been in game), but we had some close ties with a lot of event planning for quite some time.

I like certain aspects of the person, but I don't want the whole nutty package...it just doesn't seem worth it anymore. I'm really just weighing if I should go off on them out of the blue, or just drop off the radar screen.

Just stay away from them , ignore them and if they corner you, reduce your interaction to a smile. Then move on.

I would try to handle the matter as much as possible in character if it is indeed an IC issue. If not, then simply tell the person your concerns over IMs.

If it were me, I'd just tell the truth. Something like: I have nothing against you, personally, but I'd rather not get involved in the idiocy in-game. So, let's just agree to disagree and go our separate ways here in the game.

Our friends are a reflection of ourselves. One thing that will always be true, is that we would not all agree on the same thing with everyone else. The real question to ask yourself is, do I value their friendship enough that I should come and say "hey, I disagree with x, y and z." Then based on their answer, you either accept it, or don't. If you don't, you make a decision to either continue talking about it (potentially losing the relationship) or not.

I guess basically what I'm saying is.. it's your decision. No one elses. You have to decide if you want this "idiot" for a friend. If you do, you have a lot of different options. If you do not, it's easy.

It isn't an IC thing, in fact, that is the aspect of the person that I enjoy...their GS character. I've come to determine that their player is the crazy one.

They are fine in game, at least when I've seen them in game, it is their out of game antics that are just stupid.

I know in the end it has to be my decision, but I'm a master procrastinator, so I was looking for a way to get out of making a decision.

I recently told off a friend from waaay back IRL about their life choices and I either pissed them off beyond comprehension or they never received the e-mail since they haven't contacted me since, regardless...I felt retarded for going off the deep end about how someone else does their thing. I want to do something similar here, but just don't know how to go about it.

Ish. It the problem exists outside the game, that's even worse for you. Depending on what kind of idiot behavior they're engaged in, it could cost you greatly if you happen to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong company.

However, I'd still opt for honesty. Tell the person how you feel about their behavior. Explain how it effects you. If there's a real friendship there, the other person should care enough about your feelings to modify that behavior. If they don't...well, the message is clear.

The best way for me to put it is:

If you are my friend, and you act like a bitch, you STILL get smacked like a bitch from me. Doesn't matter who you are.

Cant speak to the situation because I dont know the details. In any case though, honesty ROX. Definately talk to them about it.

I say keep your feelings discreet until you talk to them though. And if you really believe this person is a mental case just umm, tell them you are moving away to a third world country, you sold your character and change your AIM so they dont flip out and kill an innocent walrus or something.

Hrmm, not sure how it is now but a few years back when I played regularly there were people who were bought on E-Bay. Next thing I knew someone who was a friend was someone else and acting like a kid that had been given a porsche for graduation.
