View Full Version : What'd I do wrong (CoL)

Ok, I have my first character in CoL for like 8 years so I really have no idea what I did wrong:

You head over to the Frosted Tart Table.
[Frosted Tart Table]
Flecks of frosting cover the chairs and floor around the circular oak table. In the center of the table, a bored would-be artist left his mark by carving an overstuffed, frosted tart.
Obvious exits: out
>sign wracking
You shudder as your life force is torn and reshaped!
You feel drained!
You realize you have expended too much of your spirit and have made it plainly obvious to all nearby that your spirit is draining.
>
Your SIGN OF SWORDS is no longer effective.
You feel drained!
>

-------------------------------------------------
You sense the thoughts of the Grand Poohbah:
"My child, you have not abided by your vow of
secrecy and have permitted non-members to identify
your affiliation. As such, I strip you of your
powers for 30 minutes, so that you might have
time to reflect upon your actions."

hahahahahahaha pwned

That shouldn't happen.

There's a slim chance that when you did your sign of swords you may have already been too low on spirit, doing that in front of someone may have set off a hidden triggered variable that says "punish him", when the sign falls off. Though that sounds like a stretch and I doubt it.

Did you report it? Because that obviously should not have happened. :?:

Someone said that you could go to a table if someone was invisible there. Is that a possibility?

You shouldn't be held responsible if someone is invisible, and it will tell you that someone is there if you try to go to that specific table. It won't put you at an invisible person's table if you just type 'go table'. Not a possibility.

You lost too much spirit around people who aren't in COL or are in Voln. But on a side note I've had characters hiding under tables when I was migrating skills and people were still about to go to that table. Mighta been what happened.

Musta been someone invisible because I wasn't with anyone. I know you can't wrack in front of people but there was no one there. I 402'd afterwards which didn't show anything, but that doesn't mean someone wasn't there.

Nobody was there if you were able to go to the table.

If someone's hiding or invisible you don't get punished.

Was anyone in your group when you went to the table?
They dont show as being at the table with you when you first go

I'd guess you might have been low on spirit when you signed, but I haven't played in so long, I'm not sure if that's still in effect. :)

That would have spirit deathed him rather than had him punished

Tables are not a private "room" I don't think. It's not like it has walls and such. That's my theory anyway.

<<Tables are not a private "room" I don't think.>>

And that affects what?

I think they mean that someone at another table would be able to see the wracking...I am pretty sure they cant

HarmNone

Hmm. Yeah, if his spirit was low, he probably would have suffered a spirit death. If it were me, I think I'd assist about this one, just to find out what happened.

HarmNone would be curious

I've wracked at tables and that's never happened. Definitely assist or something.

You receive no penalties if someone is hidden or invisible.. col or non-col. Also, no one could stalk you to a table, or follow you invisible to a table.

But if they were in your group and visible when you go to a table that could happen...and you wouldnt have seen them at the table unless you looked after you went table. Or they moved

Like stated - Spirit has nothing to do with Punishment - It simply causes spirit death. And if people are invisible or hiding, you definately don't get punished. If you are alone in a table, you also don't get punished even though they are not classified as private rooms. You can't waltz in on someone hiding or invisible at a table... Especially with the new invite system (I believe).
And to use signs infront of non-col members all you have to do is hide. Many times (especially when charging items) at a table people just slip under the table.. wrack.. slip out. So - it obviously was a bug unless you fucked up somewhere way back and it was just triggered now.

My advice.. Join Voln.

Depends on how much spirit you have and which sign you use. Wracking will always cause punishment if used in front of a non-COLer. I use swords, shields, & dissipation everytime I hunt. When I lose 3 spirit for all of them dropping at once, it's not an issue, because that's only 30% of my spirit - so technically I'm not drained enough to see.

I believe if you lose 40%+ is when you get caught. Can anyone confirm?

The Frosted Tart Table was looking shifty. Maybe it was a ploy to get you to relinquish the secrets of CoL!? A giant overstuffed Tart! Genius!

My girl wracks at tables all the time and doesn't get punished. If my Voln character is there she will hide under the table to wrack, if not she will do it in the open and she's never been punished.

Apparently it's if you go down to 50%, because you get nailed for wracking at 10, not for possession (4) at 9, and not for wracking at 11 (ability bonus item to aura).

Edited to change hypnosis to possession.

Thx, Bob. I usually don't use more then 3 spirit at a time, so I wasn't sure.

Just on a side note, if you try to go to a table that has someone invisible there or hidden under the table you get this messaging "As you head over to "table" you get the distinct feeling that you are being watched. If you still wish to proceed, go again" or something of that nature. I had it done to me when I was hiding under a table and someone was still able to come to it without me inviting them. Also I did it to a table that had someone else there to confirm it and it worked just like I described. BUT you still would have gotten that odd messaging to let you knwo someone was there you couldn't see.
