I refuse to give tourist dollars to a country that supports trafficking of little girls for perverted American tourists.

Over half of Thai prostitutes contract AIDS within six months of beginning work.

The are almost ALL forced into their jobs. It's not a Lisu-style choice. Last year, one of the Thai brothels burned down. All the prostitues inside died, because they were chained to their beds to prevent escape. The youngest was just eight years old.

I want the women here to imagine themselves at eight, being forced to have sex with as many as 25 men in a night, beaten for crying or eating when you aren't supposed to. I want the men to imagine this happening to their wives, daughters, sisters, or mothers.

Then you'll see why it's not somethign to make flippant comments about on a message board.

Expect what you want, you shouldn't support it.

The reason so many young prostitutes there contract AIDs is because of a very strong myth there that having sex with a young virgin will rid you of all diseases and give you good luck.

Many tourists go there simply for that, but I certainly wouldn't condemn any tourist simply for visiting Thailand.

Anyhow, what was your experience of the place Longshot? Putting aside the fact that yes, some pretty bad things happen there, I'm sure there must have been some aspects about your visit that you enjoyed.

Share them with us.

"Many tourists go there simply for that, but I certainly wouldn't condemn any tourist simply for visiting Thailand."

The point, Kranar, was that I believe it's wrong to give support in the form of tourist dollars to a country who looks the other way while thousands of people's lives are violated.

It's also wrong to make idiotic "suckee" jokes about it.

I think the suckee suckee joke was in reference to Full Metal Jacket, the king of Vietnam movies.

<< The point, Kranar, was that I believe it's wrong to give support in the form of tourist dollars to a country who looks the other way while thousands of people's lives are violated. >>

These countries don't look the other way, they just don't have the money to fund the appropriate law enforcement to stop this. They don't even have the money to feed themselves for the most part.

Also, giving money as a tourist isn't support. It's paying for a service provided to you. I don't support terrorists or drug cartels when I buy gas, do you? Did you support Indonesia or China when you went out and bought your sports shoes or your clothing or heck, even your computer?

There's a much bigger picture here.

Actually it was probably in reference to the South Park episode where Cartman believes he is a veitnamese prostitute and tells everyone "Sucky sucky, five dolla!".

Women are forced into prostitution here in the USA. So I don't understand your side of the arguement.

I have always wanted to go on one of those Vietnam tours showing us what so many died for years ago. Doesn't mean I condone child porn either or want to pay a whore for sex.

CrystalTears

The reference IS from Full Metal Jacket. Cartman in South Park is just making fun of that hooker, since most of South Park's humor is about making fun of lots of things.

As usual, all these questions can be answered by going to the source.

The prostitute in Full Metal Jacket does infact make this reference and it can be found on the official Full Metal Jacket script:

http://www.krug.org/scripts/fullmetal.html

Not that it's really all that relevant.

Leave it to Player's Corner to take a thread from vacation stories to 5 dollar Vietnamese whores.

Full Metal Jacket was a pretty cool movie, though.

Ahh, but can you get it from a first-grader you bought off the black market for $30? I think not.

Barely Legal in America - 18.

Barely Legal in Thailand - 5.

The sad part is, even at that age, they're probably more experienced than most American women. :o

No, you sick fuck. They aren't. And anyone who does that needs to die a violent and brutal death.

Wow... I wasn't aware that flippant remarks do not belong in an off topic folder on an anonymous message board.

Thanks for the heads up.

And by the way, why of course some prostitution is forced labor, Thailand has a higher percentage of women employed than the United States. This image that these girls have nowhere to go is largely a myth. It is true in some circumstances, but these cases would be found everywhere.

Many women choose to do it because the money is tremendous compared to what they might otherwise earn. Hanging around with (relatively) rich people who buy you expensive things is a turn on for some people.

I would like to see the statistics on the AIDS thing. That is just way off base. Did you get that as part of the KFC is not Chicken chain letter?

Also, the sex industry in Thailand caters mainly to Thai males. In highly tourist concentrated areas, there is a saturation of of sex workers, yes. Much of the demand however, remains driven by Thai population.

There are several articles on this, if you choose to find them. You could just pick up a Lonely Planet guide. Much easier to read.

So, here is where my argument goes bad, and turns ad hominem...

But, I will stop in an amazing display of self-restraint.

It was a good rant, about how you can't apply your Christian ideals to other parts of the world.

I was going to make rude assumptions that the Tequiza you're drinking in the picture is about as international as you get. But again, I don't know you, so I won't say that.

My apologies to Kranar.

I no longer feel like storytelling.

Warriorbird

When you ride alone you ride with Bin Laden.

When you buy Nikes you help support child prostitution.

When you drink Tequiza you drink some of the worst alcoholic crap ever invented and shame beer drinkers and tequila drinkers everywhere.

;)

Nuff said.

It's on a island. Was a military base there. Their main economy was prositution. You left the base and it was a mile of bars with whores. Hell, they had to have a VD card saying they was clean or they could not work in the bars..... All the hints I am giving! Last one. You go there if you are on a Westpac.
