this is a good thread to figure minimum attempts for different difficulties. i can see a decent works on an 'odds on your side' for example but wonder if you can get it on a lower attempt...

This austere room is amazingly clean. Not a speck of dust appears anywhere in it. In fact, the only items in the room are securely bolted, tacked or nailed down. An iron table and a large chest in the far corner both lean toward the center of the room, and what is left of the crimson carpet appears to have been shredded in the same direction, revealing the marble floor underneath. Light filters in from a few holes in the black marble walls to glint off a twisted metal sign. You also see the Kemstone disk.

7x fullplate, not going to cast on it, but putting it out there, I also tested a set of 7x T2 full leathers and I needed a miricle. If I don't find anything better to do I may try it but with Rolfards enhancives and after the anklebiter gains another level.

I know this had been asked about before and I don't think I've seen it posted anywhere, but this runestaff is currently being enchanted. 5x, super bubble flares, t3 ensorcelled. As you can see it resists being ensorcelled.

Supposed to make enchanting harder, per the documentation.
Without concrete numbers on enchanting success rate, it's impossible to determine a numerical impact. Most people tend to enchant first, ensorcell later, due to relative pricing and the relatively minor correlation between enchant versus success.

I think it starts out at one week for T1 then increases by half a week for each tier after.
I could be wrong though. I'm probably wrong. But I do know T1 is one week and T2 is half a week.

Just ran through a bit of ensorcelling assessments and finally completed one. A few 4-6x runestaves with flares and various enhancives(didn't get the specifics) all were miracles. From what I've seen flares didn't cause too many people around my level(mid-upper 50s) problems, so I think it is the combination of flares and enhancives, or maybe just enhancives, that made it so difficult. Don't have much more info than that on those....but here is a 4x HCP leathers, success on the second cast.

This is the hardest thing I've worked on.
T4 on an 8x perfect weapon with magical bane and heavy crit weighting.
The initial reading with no enhancives and outside of a workshop was that it would take a "miracle." It turned into "difficult, but possible" while wearing all enhancives (enhanced stats and skills listed below) and in a workshop. I regret that I did not think to test with enhancives outside of a workshop and without enhancives inside a workshop.
Failed on "questionable"

My advice to sorcerers is to be vigilant in looking for good deals on enhancives. Notice how much they improved my chances. You'll likely have to pay a lot for primary stat enhancives, but you can find a lot of good deals on the secondary skills, especially mana controls, if you do a search of player shops. Remember that one of your enhancives can be handheld. You could even use a handheld fusion item that you created just for this purpose.

The Ebonwood being slightly harder than Faewood, Orase, etc. is in line with the material properties of Ebonwood regarding magical resistance. The information provided by official forum posts are vague at best for the different magic resistance.
Ensorcell may end up being a powerful tool to determine the different material's properties as it relates to magic resistance.

EMC/SMC/AS/MIU may play some non-linear factor in ensorcell. I don't think we have much data to go on with 0 ranks in all of them.

My research starting at zero secondary skills suggested they augment sorcerer spell ranks, possibly a form of multiplier. Im surprised the 7x heavy padding was as easy but you are about 2x your level in sorcerer spell ranks

I feel like every 40 ranks of all secondary helped about as much as 10 ranks of over training spells. There was less benefit from secondary when I had less spell ranks though.
Max Wisdom and intuition enhancives also appeared to augment spell ranks up to the equivalent of about 30 spell ranks.
These findings are particularly rough as I don't often burn a fix skills to test a project over and over as I increase skills. Also this is from a level 100 pov. What was conclusive was spell ranks are definitely the most important variable.

I did the t1 on it too, and had almost exactly the same stats for the t1.
Not workshop: t1 was very difficult, t2 was nearly impossible
semi-private workshop: t1 was odds on your side, t2 was very difficult
This suggests that the difficulty jump from level to level may not be constant - it looks like the different between very difficult and nearly impossible (one level) may be about as much as the jump from "odds on your side" to "very difficult" (3 levels). FWIW, I have reason to believe that I was just barely in "odds on side" rather than "difficult but possible" last time, but even so, that's 2 levels vs 1, if not 3 vs 1.

'Very difficult' falls in the 'good' range. You can either succeed or fail with a decent attempt. Any attempt less than 'good' should always fail and any attempt higher should always succeed.

TD bonuses appear to make a huge difference in the difficulty of ensorcelling.
I previously added Tier 2 ensorcell to an item with a 5x enchant and 3x TD (+15 TD). The difficulty reading without enhancives and outside of a workshop was that I could fail only if horribly unlucky.
Today I retested the same item after its owner increased the enchant to 7x and added 2x TD to bring the TD to 5x (+25 TD). The difficulty reading for a T3 ensorcell with all of my enhancives and in a workshop was that it was completely beyond my abilities.
I was surprised by the increase in difficulty.

I multiplied wrong. The 3x TD should have been +9 TD, and the 5x TD should have been +15 TD.
So it went from only fail if horribly unlucky to add T2 to a 5x +9 TD item to completely beyond my abilities to add T3 to a 7x +15 TD item.

Are switchable flares more difficult than just a single flare on an item? Someone asked me to do a T3 cast on their 7x flaring runestaff and based on what I've done before I thought it would be no problem but I got the difficulty rating right below the impossible rating. He then informed me it was switchable flares so I figured the switchable bit made it more difficult.

Ugh yes. Pain in the ass those weapons. No offense to the client, but I don't get how people don't go crazy using those.
I'm at no necrotic energy right now- so it'll be a few weeks before I'm ready too. I'll reach out to the other elders when it's time- we'll see if anyone's around to do some testing. Might be good data. I'm assuming this is even going to be doable- the difficulty level seems to increase exponentially as you go up in tiers.

Yes, makes the weapon sanctified, which adds to the difficulty. may be worth adding a section to the kp page about 1625 and ensorcell, I'll put it on my list
I think Rolfard was working on a weapon once where the owner unbonded and things got much better, I'll ask him about it if he doesn't see it here first.

Someone in this thread posted about that- made me wonder.
What's interesting to me is how exactly the difficulty is calculated. At the end of the day, the factors that determine difficulty are almost identical to the factors considered when using PPs to enchant an item- which makes me wonder if they're borrowing from the same system.
It's more idle curiosity than anything else, but that means that 1625 might be making things more difficult because it's sanctifying, and it might be making things more difficult because it's a script- or both. (how else would Fusion items, for example, be harder to ensorcel than non-infusion items) I've been working on that true black ora weapon for the past few weeks, and it's a weapon that both has flares (though not in the flare slot), enhancives (I *believe* also not in the standard slot), and then the script responsible for both. It'd be interesting to know if its difficulty level is calculated based on having a script or based on a script and enhancives or the script, enhancives, and flares (least likely).
Sadly- it's not an easy thing to test. Though if someone could get a normal true black ora weapon and then compare it to a weapon of the same base with flares, the same enchant, and similar enhancives- we might actually get an idea of whether or not they're using the PP system for these calculations.

It is cute how he calls it a maul when it is a katar.
As far as paladin bonded weapons go the difficulty gets increased because it becomes a sanctified enhancive. That last part often gets overlooked but a fully bonded paladin weapon also gives the paladin a +10 to WIS and STR stats.

Removing the pally bond removes enhancive and sanct. It helps. ALOT. It removed 3-4 difficulty levels when I was casting on a 10x hcw lance. I was amazed.

Yeah, I know it'll magically turn this into an auto-success cast. I just feel bad making someone go back through that whole process again.

I would have to guess no. Dude has 303 Sorcerer ranks and max Wisdom/Intuition enhancives. Even if he managed +50 enhancives for maxed secondary skills, I still say it would be beyond even an open roll.

I didn't want to jump on this question right away when you asked in the other thread as I was hoping someone might have info I lacked, but i'm pretty sure the difference between Primary and Secondary factors of Ensorcell was never clearly stated. Your best bet would be asking in the sorcerer folder on the officials.
As to dumping Arcane Symbols and MIU, if you hunt with a runestaff it will lower your DS, as these skills count as magical ranks. Beyond that, Scroll Infusion would clearly suffer or become outright unusable. Durations for spells from scrolls and magical items like small statues would decrease. If you went low enough some/all scrolls would become unusable, but small statues would retain their base duration of 10 minutes, even with 0 MIU. No other sorcerer spells besides Scroll Infusion and Ensorcell would suffer, though.

Today I learned how to ensorcell black ora. Pour a pure potion on it. Then pour the ensorcelling potion on it. Then channel ensorcell. Don't dillydally after pouring the pure potion or it will become cursed again. I assume you could get a cleric to neutralize the curse instead of using a pure potion.

Way late on this but if you never did get an answer. Yes, primary stats and sorcerer ranks play a far larger role in your success with ensorcell then secondary skills do. If you've noticed, my sorcerer barely has any skills beyond 1x HP and spells. The higher CS makes him a better hunter. He dies slightly more then someone who invests heavily into scroll infusion and spell tanks up the wazoo but I am alright with that.

There are some older veil iron items that you can ensorcell. I took a 6x hcw veil iron waraxe, inspected as veil iron, to T3 so I know it can be done.

don't know/don't care :) have 40/40 AUR/WIS set, CS is 569 with Mystic Focus, which I almost always have running. Double ensorcell/acuity flares to 617. Never bothered to do the math.

Resist difficulty has been kind of a mystery to me. It is there but I haven't done enough resistant items (and always of varying %) to guess how big of a factor it is. I believe it was stated to be minimal for enchanting but it seems to be a minor to middling factor for ensorcelling which always seemed to draw from the same attributes in other areas.

One of the splits for max CS has 172 sorcerer ranks, I forget how the minor circles are divided though.
