This is more out of curiosity than anything, mainly because the guy in question is usually full of shit as it is.

Short version: Dude ran someone over a couple nights ago, and claims that the guy "jumped out in front of his car." The guy that got run over is apparently pretty messed up, but supposedly is gonna be ok.

I'm no forensic detective, but the damage areas on the car, all of which are on the side except the corner of the windshield, and in particular, the complete lack of any front side damage, seem to contradict his claim of the guy jumping out in front of his car. Dude thinks he's a rockstar so I'm guessing he was admiring himself on his phone or something and is trying to blame the pedestrian for him being a fucking idiot.

Anyway....your thoughts?

What caused the smash in at the windshield? The damage to the car could have been from the driver swerving and hitting something else. That does not look like damage that would be caused by hitting a person.

I'm guessing the windshield (and side rearview) damage came from the person that got run over.

I'm thinking the guy wasn't paying attention, texting or trying to suck himself off or something, and then clipped the guy that was walking, as opposed to the guy randomly jumping out in front of his car.

He didn't mention anything about swerving or hitting anything else. Only that someone jumped out in front of him and he hit him.

Damn, I'd hate to see what the guy looks like if the car took that much damage from hitting him.

Wow he hit the shit out of something. I deal with hit and run reports about twice a month at our main campus and the damage to the car never looks like that. I estimate speeds above 50. Did he even break? I can't tell you anything else without being on site.

:yeahthat:

Is he sure he only hit a person. Christ, it looks like he hit an elephant.

I once hit a boulder at 50 mph in a Saturn (plastic car) and did dramatically less damage to the bumper. There is 0 chance he only hit a human being at any speed. I'm not as skeptical of the windshield/sideview damage, but that's really a huge amount of front end damage.

Well now, we don't have all the facts here. Did the person he hit weigh about 500 pounds?

Also this is America and we all know that, like the government that bailed out their industry, cars are afraid to infringe on the rights of a well-armed populace. I didn't see any bullet holes, therefore this car didn't hit a person. QED.

With the plaastic crap vehicles are made out of now adays, doesnt take much to do a lot of damage to them. I was at a stop sign and some Somali woman ran into my truck with her minivan. She couldnt have been going more than 5-10 mph, but if folded her hood and mashed her bumper off so bad you'd have sworn she was going 30+. I swear the only damage my truck had was some scratches near the trailer hitch. Anyway they ever say why the person was walking in the street or at least partly so?

Nope. His words were, "We were driving down X road, when a guy ran out in front of our car, therefore causing us to hit him."

I rear ended another car doing about 45mph and did less damage than that... Judging from the damage and the way the side panel is crumpled, it doesn't look like it was just a person that he hit. If it was just a person, I'm really surprised they are going to be okay.

What I don't get is how all the damage is on the side, yet he claims the guy jumped out in front of him. No damage to the grill, headlights or anything.

He never mentioned hitting anything else.

I think you might be taking the "in front" part too literally. Looks like the person was clipped and kinda rolled along the side of the car.

The side damage looks like the headlight casing pushed back at the outside corner and caused the panel to crumple. He had to hit/clip someone really hard though for it to do that much damage.

For scientific purposes you should take a sledgehammer and just clobber the other side of his car so we can do a comparison of the damage.

So basically what would probably happen if you weren't paying attention when you were driving.

I doubt I'm the only one, but when I'm driving down the road and see someone walking, I swerve over more than enough to where there's a significant gap between my car and the guy walking...unless I'm prepccupied with something else and not paying attention.

I just think it's shitty of him to sit there blaming the guy walking, especially when it appears that he clipped him like that, which usually only happens when you have your head up your ass and aren't paying attention.

Makes sense though, since he's a piece of shit of a person in general. He was bitching today that this is costing him like $1500 for just stuff related to his car, followed by, "It's amazing how much money one idiot can cost you."

Uh, I'm surprised nobody pointed out that the windshield does look like someone's forehead or face hit it, only from the outside. You usually see that pattern when someone's in a head on collision and wasn't wearing their seat belt. Face to windshield.

If he did hit someone, he must have going pretty fast. To me it looks like the person had some weight to them and got whiplashed along the side of the rig, /facesmash windshield with the shoulders tearing off the sideview mirror with their legs and lower body mashing the fender and side panel.

Ouch.

Or if someone who wasn't paying attention started to run out into the road and you didn't have enough time to react. The driver may be a douche, but I don't think you can affirmatively say he's at fault here just because you don't like him.

Could have been a bigger guy, but new model cars, especially SUVs and vans, crumple extremely easy. It is a safety measure for just this sort of situation.

Looking at it, it looks like he hit him in the back or in the front. His pelvic area smashed the light, his body went over the hood with his skull terminating into the windshield.

He was probably also going pretty fast when he hit him.
