I either carry a Gerber Gator or a Coleman fixed-blade knife, depending on what I am doing. The fixed-blade isn't exactly a pocket knife, but I carry it a lot anyway.

I used to always carry a Swiss Army Knife; they are such versatile tools. One day, I was at the Vatican at the checkpoint to enter St Peter's. The Swiss guards were doing a half-ass job of checking pockets, and I made the mistake of volunteering that I was carrying my knife. They looked at it and said "basket?" We were puzzled, and my travel companion spoke to them in Italian, to which they responded in English "basket" and pointed to the trash bin. Few things pissed her off more than Italian speakers ignoring her perfectly fluent Italian, but worse yet, the bastards showed no respect for their own damn country's name sake knife! No way was I throwing away my Swiss Army Knife at the behest of some wanna-be Swiss guard in a nancy-boy costume. Halberds be damned.

Now days I don't carry a pocket knife because you can't even get on a plane with one anymore. I got tired of throwing them away because I forgot they were in my pocket or brief case.

When I'm fishing I carry a fillet knife with a line cutter and fish hook sharpener, a fishing pliers tied with a bungie chord to its sheath and a long fish hook remover for muskie and northern pike. You do not want your hand in that mouth. The pliers has a nice jaw that can easily cut through hooks, which comes in handy more often than you'd think.

Yeah, the days of carrying mine daily are over. Lost one to the Lime Light club in NY. Actually mailed one back to myself from an airport. Had to put one back in my car before I could go into a DMV. Damn terrorists.

Baby Kershaw. My favorite vanity knife. It's little and girly looking but has been deployed to The Phillipines, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. Some other places too. :) I suck at taking pictures but that's a pearled red baby boa. Engraved Feb 07. Got it for the Phillipines.

That's a lot of sogs and kershaws. I had a zing for a whole day, but it fell out of my pocket and I never got a new one. I generally carry either one or two cold steel recon I's. I have an older model with the tri-lock copy and a newer lock back version. Both are drop points, only because they were on sale and I could not find the spearpoints as cheap. The number with me depends on what guns if any I am lugging about (as they may take up pocket space). I also carry a swisstool spirit.

The only knife you will ever need and only $16.00. I keep mine in my car or on me when camping.

Made by Green River since the early 1800's this is the one knife we've found that is straight-bladed (can be used as a drill and punch). thin-bladed (cuts easily without wedging; ex: Crisp vegetables such as carrots don't pop across the room when sliced), non-stainless (no-glare, sharpens easily), and affordable.

Beech wood handle, 4" blade, $16

Don't laugh, but I generally just rip twine with a shedder comb, which always seems to be more plentiful around my barn than cutting implements. Not just cowgirl...straight up redneck.

Next week, I get my new AQHA pocket knife in the mail with my renewal subscription, though, and I'm so 'cited! I will post when it comes in! Yay for freebies!

p.s. - bummed no one drooled and/or razzed me over the cheap, replica double-headed axe - boo!

Not laughing at you, definatly laughing with you. I've been in that position many a time. I don't know about you, but when the twine was just to damned tight to slide off of a corner and I had to improvise with the shedder curry, I always wondered if gnawing through the twine would be faster than sawing away at it with the shedder.

And that's not redneck, that's 1) Lazy/unprepared and 2) Creative improvisation.

Case in point.

I used to clean the water troughs with dirt (aka as FL sand) and handfuls of dried grass. 1) I was to absentminded to remember to bring a scrub brush with me and to lazy to walk back for one so I 2) improvised with the tools that I had around me. The interesting thing I discovered was that the abrasive nature of the sand was by far the best medium for a cleaning agent and got supremely better results than just a scrub brush.

Not Redneck at all. Creative and turns out, dern smert!

Unfortunately, the silty clay here just won't cut the mustard like good ole abrasive FL sand. Since the barn is much father than I wish to walk these days, I've resorted to leaving a scrub brush by the trough. Heh. Guess I still have a lazy streak. :-P

P.S. Cheezy, cheap replica or not, that axe would leave a nice goose-egg on someones noodle for sure.

As for other likes in this thread, I liked RojoDiscos twine cutter aka Baby Kershaw on the rose paterned, lacy cloth. Sexy

The simplistic and artistic nature of SonoftheNorths blade. Extra props for his choice in the use of the moss. Earthy

And that thing that Tenlaar posted ..... not the most practical, but definately wicked cool. I'd find myself twitching for my wallet if I saw that. Just think, you could be super lazy about sharpening the blade, just move on to the next one!

Texas Cadillac? To funny.

Looks like we have more in common than just mangling hay string with curry combs. I'm going to utilize your mothers 'Texas Cadillac' reference to the Dodge RAM 2500 w/Extended Cab. I call mine Bertha. She's a little aged, but has a strong Cummins for a heart.

As for the Prius, I refer to them as 'Scootabouts'. Mine have always been riceburners. Both my Toyota and Honda were at 230k miles, and still running very well, when I left them behind. I'm currently kicking the tires on a Yota as I am sans a Scootabout at the moment.

Parking a Texas Cadillac in town is always an adventure!

Did somone mention Riddick? :-)

Back to knives, I very recently saw a recall on foldable pocket knives. There was no lock feature to them. Yowtch! Nice way to hurt some fingers.

LOL, I call my Prius the Space Pod and my old Dodge Durango's name was Bertha! Some parallel shit right there. The big silver RAM is too fucking bad ass and awesome for a Part II anything, plus she's sexy and sleek and gets the job done in ways Bertha couldn't ever do. Once upon a time I worked in the marketing department of an A/C distributorship. They ordered some promo knives from SOG for our clients and in appreciation, whatever SOG distributor sent along an extra SOG knife that "inadvertently" found its way in to my pocket, which is the silver one pictured.
