So I am sketching up a new novel and I figured it may be fun to get some creative juices from the rest of you. The content does not matter, but who doesn't want a chance to be immortalized in naming a boat in a book?! Basically I need a name for a boat from the colonial times that carried the majority of the town (which the book will be based upon) to New England. It's going to be American gothic style and I will use the boat's name to also tie into the towns name. So if you don't want to participate feel free not to read this or respond but if you'd like to participate please offer up some suggestions.

The boat will be coming from the east (think not France, England but the darker "unknown" countries akin to where Dracula came in the mysterious dark unknown continent) and will be a sort of Noah's Ark, carrying families of "other" beings from death in Europe to salvation in the New World. And the town will be designed on a spiral form centering around a lavish graveyard. So it needs to be a non-American name, it predates America and represents an old, non-human world

How does a boat get to New England from the west? Marco Polo style? Seems like a long way to go when you could just travel across the Atlantic. Plus this is before the panama canal and that shit.

Oh I understand geography enough to know there's other ways. Just uh.. doesn't make sense I guess. One trip is considerably longer than the other, unless she has a reason for them going the other way. Which.. she probably does.

Miorita is "the little ewe", a famous Romanian story/song, which could also make for cool scary music when the book is turned into a movie. Spoiler alert: everything Slavic is depressing...
I (http://www.swordhand.com/styled-3/styled-8/index.html) must also mention the Miorita (pronounced Mio-ritsa), a folk ballad from Romania that tells the story of a beautiful young shepherd and his grisly murder at the hands of two supposed comrades. The exact meaning of the song is disputed in academic circles; I chose one meaning and used it as suited my story; others would disagree with the conclusion that the message of the song is to teach us to be ready to accept death, in order that we may live free from fear of it, but this seems the most apt and poetic interpretation.
In the same vein, Ileana is a character in Romanian folklore. Beautiful princess, blah blah blah.

Awesome idea. I can't wait to read it. Don't forget to post when it's finished. It's been a while since we had some literary talent of our own around here. Nikki used to write. I wonder if she ever finished her book.
Here are my ideas stolen from the abridged international goetia and Crowley works. I basically ctrl + f } water and gave you the ones that didn't sound terrible. I thought the supernatural quality might help your aesthetic.
The Vepar or simply Vepar. (my fav of the three)
The 42d spirit is Named Vepar he is a great & strong duke, & appeareth like a Mairmaid, his office is to guide ye waters, & ships Ladden wth armour thereon he will at ye [will of the] Exorcist cause ye seas to be rough and stormy, and to appeare full of ships he causeth men to dye in 3 dayes wth putrifying their sores and wounds, & causing wormes in them [106v] to bred &c he governeth 29 Legions of spirits, his seal is Thus to be made and worne as a Lamin &c.
Zebaoth
which Moses named & all the Rivers & waters in the land of Ægypt
Paimon
he can discover wt ye Earth is, and wt holdeth it up in ye waters, & wt ye wind is or where it is, or any other Thing yu desire to know,

Yes and no. Certainly I wasn't Stephen King a decade and a half ago. I'm still not but I'm much better now. Much. But I'm also a crazed perfectionist about my work and it's only under the veil of anonymity that I feel free to let people read it. If someone I actually knew were to read it... well. It just wouldn't happen, because I'd be doing constant re-writes trying to achieve perfection and I wouldn't let them read it until said perfection had been achieved.
