Just looking for tips if any to playing on Shattered. I heard all kinds of rumors so I'm here to see what all the fuss is about. Oh, and someone said something about getting 10m when you start, but I haven't seen a hair on the head of THAT shit yet. :)
But seriously, I'm just getting to know the place, and advice, tips, pointers, I'm all ears. Well, actually I'm a Halfling, not an Elf, so I guess I'm all nose!
Thanks,

Player of Beelzebub / Mofuggah here. You can haz a 10 mil note any day of the week if you get to Teras. If I've gotta come to you it's a bit tricker to catch me but I'll come to the landing for deeds every month or two, and sometimes I make special trips if you're atk and decently talkative. Anywho the spot on Teras is the deck at the Adventurer's rest. Room #12537.

Well, when I hit Teras, I'll look you up. I'm sure I'll be peddlin around the landing a few days at least.
Thanks though! Nice of ya.

Dont drop a mint on your weapons either. You can get by with plain 4x stuff. It's all about survivability. The toys are nice to have when you're at the keys to have some fun with, but I'd recommend NOT using anything special when you're away.

I'd agree with this because critters can disarm and other bad things can happen to weapons. No players that I'm aware of in the Shattered realm have been stealing weapons from people since 2011 though so it's relatively safe to use the good stuff if you can handle the critter disarms and whatnot.

I think the biggest problem with disarm is that no matter how well you're trained for it...in the realm of 24/7 scripting, if it CAN happen - it WILL happen. Some douchebag critter will inevitably roll a 245 on your ass and disarm you. I'm no expert, but just my .02

Critter disarms, itchy curse, etc. no one that I'm aware of uses good weapons, they are too easy to lose and no matter how post cap you are, you still die from time to time. My Bard is 43 million experience now and still dies at least once a month, and it usually goes in waves for some reason. He'll go a month without dying, and then suddenly he'll have 6 in a week. No matter how good you are, stuff will happen. Most people in Shattered focus on acquiring stuff that can't be lost or stolen like armor. My post cap warrior hunts with thrown weapons because I got sick of losing decent weapons, and I never could bond fully with anything because it would get lost.

This is probably a naive question since I've never played Shattered...
But if players haven't been stealing weapons lately, how do weapons get lost so easily? If it's the same game there are still a specific subset of critters that disarm as a maneuver or whatever... am I wrong in this? Or is Shattered like old GS where you can be stripped after you die? Just curious because I'm in a similar position to Sniper, except that I haven't actually paid the subscription fee. Call me cautious.
Thanks,

Well, from what I've seen, you only need to worry about critter disarms. But then I'm still kinda new... But I think I have to spend a lot of time thinking before using my 5x expertly sighted bow for AFK script hunting...

If you've read this thread, how is this still a question for you? There are many ways NPCs will cause you to lose your weapon. As you get higher in level, it becomes more difficult and eventually impossible to avoid these sort of critters.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like it is mostly just critter concerns.

Well, except in the Scatter. :)

Haven't hunted out there yet. None of those clowns disarm or curse? Also, if you can be rifted once in the Scatter, you're back to being vulnerable since stuff on the other planes can get ya.

I had the impression that Tibby was asking about the potential for losing a weapon to another player. Or postmortem stripping of gear. If that was the question I think you're pretty safe in that regard. Also a GM or merchant can enchant a weapon to return to you if disarmed.

Think you can get itchy cursed in one of the planes? You can account for that in a script though. I don't think anything there disarms any other way...
Nothing in the actual Scatter does anyway. I never lost a weapon there, must have been a couple months at least of consistent scripting.

I'm thinking the Vvrael Warlocks and Witches will use curse, but honestly, the last time I hunted in the rift I was still playing Prime probably back in 2003 and I'm sure we can imagine what ten years has done to my memory.

(S?)He was asking if people weren't losing weapons to other players, what the issue was. Also, returning weapons don't return instantly from what I've gathered. There is room for error and I'd be willing to bet that if you run 24/7 with a decent weapon, you're going to lose it eventually.

Yeah, I got one of the Disarm Returner scripts added to a claid at RtCF, and it's already gone. Got disarmed by a Janissary, and a Scout scooped it up before the script could activate. *Grumbles* This is why weapons are worthless in Shattered, when you afk script 24/7 you WILL lose weapons, no matter what. Which is really annoying. I've got the brand new Pure Coraesine weapon and it's lockered now because I don't dare afk with it for fear of loss. (It is totally bad ass to hunt with by the way!) I just won't do it afk.
Also, there is a script out on the repo called iCurse, I believe to deal with itchy curse, but beware, if you are stuck in round time for whatever reason the script will attempt to put your weapon away but fail to do so, then you'll drop it. It might be a good idea for the brainy scripter types to check it out and tweak it a bit. I will try to take a look later, but I suck at scripting so...
Anyone know if azbounty or bigshot handles hunting Scatter? I'd really like to hunt somewhere that weapon loss isn't a worry.

The short answer is yes. I ran azbounty and hunted scatter for the majority of my post-cap while I was still active. It's a bit of a bitch to set up, and I had to run another script to catch mistakes and cancel/rerun certain things (like when you get rifted, you need to pause azbounty, go2 a room in the scatter, and unpause azbounty), but it's certainly possible.]
Takes a good bit of trial and error, but once it works, it works.

The main reason I couldn't get back into the game when I reactivated was because I seem to have lost or moved all my scripts, and I didn't want to start from scratch... It was quite a pain in the ass to get working.
I'll probably come back to haunt you in the fall, during GS season. Too much work for summertime though.

Yeah, I was asking not because I don't know about disarming critters, but because my general experience has been that they're avoidable. That being said, I haven't capped in Prime, so your earlier comment and subsequent conversation about capped hunting areas has been more enlightening for me. Prior to cap, critter disarms are avoidable. In light of that, I couldn't figure out why everyone was making ominous comments about weapon loss. Now it all makes sense (especially given that most players in Shattered should be capped). On a sidenote, your anecdotal evidence on the failure of "returning" weapons is accurate - they definitely do not 100% save you from weapon loss.
I can definitely see why Doughal is frustrated with the weapon loss issue in Shattered. Nice weapons are a major acquisition in the game, and contribute to the fun/accomplishment you feel with your character's development. If this equally affected all professions/builds, then that might make it more palatable. Obviously this isn't the case. That is too bad, in a no-holds-barred game environment there should be accommodation made to enable folks to use their ridiculously overpowered weapons (should they put in the effort to have one made!).
I dunno... I'm still on the fence about Shattered. I like the idea of it a lot, but I feel like some of the stuff Simu failed to account for could suck. "Gemstone with no GM intervention and no rules" is one thing, but if "no GM intervention = fewer GM merchant services", and "no rules" = "no good weapons", then is it really Gemstone?
Not sure... just posing these questions aloud to the Shattered community. I'd love to hear you guys' takes on the matter.
Thanks,

You change your tune slightly, adding the element for Song of Sonic Disruption to your song...
Your spellsong is ready.
You weave another verse into your harmony, directing the sound of your voice at a frostborne lich.
CS: +481 - TD: +447 + CvA: +25 + d100: +77 == +136
Warding failed!
A frostborne lich reels under the force of the sonic vibrations!
Sound waves disrupt for 57 damage!
... 45 points of damage!
The frostborne lich's neck explodes launching her head into the air.
A sheen of ice forms a glossy rime over each of the frostborne lich's eyes as she grasps at the gnarled bone phylactery hanging around her neck and collapses to the floor.
A frostborne lich just arrived. Wait, wasn't she here already?
The brilliant luminescence fades from around a frostborne lich.
The bright luminescence fades from around a frostborne lich.
A frostborne lich becomes solid again.
The silvery luminescence fades from around a frostborne lich.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding a frostborne lich suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
A frostborne lich appears somehow different.
A frostborne lich glances around, looking a bit less confident.
The translucent sphere fades from around a frostborne lich.
That's my take on the matter. Come for a visit, it's only $5.

My first and only event (in my now 35ish days of Shattered) I attended RtCF, which yielded me:
4X +20 crit padded armor
4X T4 Voln Armor
3X +50 claid & disarm returned
8X permabless maul
6X flamberge with blink flares
5X dagger base enchancive with Ironwright flares
211 7x a day
2 containers set to 180 pounds and light as can be
several alters
ezScripts (10) added to an item
customer cologne
... and more things that I forgot to jot notes down on ...
Think that addresses your question regarding GM's, events, and gear ... that said, I doubt these event like this roll around all that much, but then EG is coming up soon too.

Keep in mind that this event was the first and only of it's kind we've had. We usually go months between GM interactions, sometimes EG is it. On the other hand, when they do show up, you almost always get some direct GM action, since the population here is so low. When the game first opened, we got a lot of GM love in terms of item creation and major services, so when that dried up for a number of reasons, people over here felt pretty unloved, and it got worse and worse until last EG when we all did some pretty loud complaining over on the officials. Since then it has gotten better, and now with this RtCF, we've gotten more services in one week than have probably been done since the first few months the game was open. I would highly suspect that we will see very little mechanical major services again for a while. On the other hand it's only a few months till EG, and we'll probably get at least a little love then.

I spent probably 3+ years around this site, never having an avatar, and then I saw the racoon... and it was me.
