I started working at the Y after school when I was 14. But I don't think the point was really that bob needs to get a job. Really that he should just be out enjoying life instead of trying to be a prick every chance he gets. eh. I guess its easy to pass judgement on somebody's maturiry when you are well past that age. I wasn't able to hold a legal job till I was about 17, and I doubt bob needs to go out and do some of the things I did as a kid. I didn't have a real girlfriend till around 16, and besides sports I didn't get out much at that age at all.


I grew up pretty fast and I can't honestly say that I was much more mature than bob at his age now. I'm sure you all could ask your parents about how "Mature" you were at that age and I wouldn't doubt that many of them would laugh in your face.

Quite frankly, I see bob as more mature than some of the "Adults" who post on this board and are incapable of dealing with other people for various reasons. (*hint, people who post under 3-4 different names, try and fly off the handle and when that doesn't get the desired result: delete her posts in several threads)

First off - It's a bit hard to not call someone an ass hole when they try to talk shit about your appearance (the gap), call you a lame bitch and various other "insulting" names. So yes, I have written you off as an asshole. A couple of people told me you are an alright guy but you haven't shown me any of that. At 18 I joined the Family Marketing firm and took on a position as a marketing consultant while going to the Unversity of Washington. I am currently also going to a technical insitute to get a degree in automotive engineering since working on cars is my greatest hobby. In four years I'll hold a business degree and be a partner in this marketing firm. Yes... Working in Deli's is for losers... Oddly enough.. some people advance from that.

Well, since it's family-owned (it's cheap, I know) I have been working with them since the beginning. I've worked with Marketing nearly all my life, even as a little girl I would help my mother out in the office. The firm currently has 22 employees and countless free-lance workers. It's pretty small but that's because it has a very efficent cutting edge system and the capacity to trademark, copyright, print, and design. I'm fairly certain that in any respectable business, people who are making $3,000,000 anually can spell. You also have to take into account that the business must first be successful. You're working for your family, who put you to work in a deli at 14. They're not the richest motherfuckers I've ever heard of, so you won't be making too much even if you own the company.

In fact, people who make $3,000,000 every year of their lives are somewhat expected to know that 300,000 + 2,000,000 is never 3,000,000. And you work in marketing.

They didn't want me to take the job. They wanted me to focus on my education. It was one of those, "I'm grown (though I'm really not)" type of deals. My parents never made me work. I chose to do so on my own.

And yes, it is true that the company may fail - since the economy isn't in the greatest state lately not as many business have an opportunity to afford marketing/design. But, I am hoping for the best. Everyone has a chance of failing - but I try to plan for success. And I do have back-up plan.

I just know what's in the bank. I know that money doesn't magically appear into my mother's bank account and I know that is her only business venture. I get paid a very decent amount though I am currently classified as a free-lancer. Though I do get a 20% comission on all new clients I bring in and close deals with.

Our accounting says we make a few million each year. I also know that a lot of the clients were taken from a business called Emyth Academy or something. (My mother used to work with them.)

And the webpage isn't down. At least, not to me. And there are a few uncomplete parts because we currently have a newly updated/visually improved website. The Flash presentation hasn't been finished yet. Most of everything else should be in its place.

My first job was at a Shell Gas Station. They were striving to be the best Shell station in the nation - so they had us greet all the customers, clean all their windshields, offer to check the oil, offer to check the air pressure in their tires - all at the self serve pump.

I learned alot from that job. Before then I never addressed people by "sir" or "ma'am". It definately helped me with the discipline that got me my next job - working as a LAN-ops assistant at a nice big corporation.

Of course me still being 17 - I fell victim to the "Toner Phoner scam (click me) (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/scams/supplies.htm)" scam and I was asked to either resign or be fired. Now I wish I knew about the scam - I would have sued them for making me leave.

I'm just curious how that's going to work. Not that I don't believe you about working at a bank because I do. When I was a freshmen they would have jobs you could get for after school and the weekends. However most banks are open regular business hours. When would you work?

My bank is open till 8pm and a bank down the road from me is open 24 hours a day. A lot of banks have gone from the 5pm closing to later, like 8-10, which gives a kid a chance to work there. However I don't see how a 15 year old can work a bank, because I thought it's a law that you have to be at least 16 to work as a teller.

Alright. We all just need to lay off the questioning of professional goals. If he plans to work as a Teller - hopefully he will. Perhaps he knows the general manager of the branch. I've seen some pretty young people work at banks before in Seattle. Neighborhood kids at neighborhood branchs. Of course, they were in their junior year of Highschool so they were probably 16. But if Bob can get a leg up - good for him.
