I'm going on vacation as of now and will not be offering services to buy tickets for the rest of this run, but if anyone wants to pay me to buy a ticket for run 3, its 10m, payable in advance, refundable if I fail. Obviously you must trust me with your account information, but I'm trustworthy, I've gotten tickets for others this way.

Yep, this was the worst fuckup ive seen yet in GS. If I dont manage to get a ticket tonight, I will deactivate my accounts to make a point. Even if you plan everything, have the money, are a premium subscriber, and sit there ready to buy the ticket. You still have very little chance of getting one against scripters. That is absolute fail for the game community.

Seven tickets seems like raping the system. I understand wanting to capitalize on a situation, but this is a game where people should be able to go to events without d-bags cornering the whole market on tickets.

No, not really faith in Simu, but people are already complaining on the officials... if someone actually takes their advice and looks at the IP addresses it would be easy enough to find multiple account purchases from the same IP address. It may not happen, but why risk it? Bragging rights? Just doesn't make sense to me.

From what I've seen SIMU isn't agile enough to stop this. They probably don't care much either. They are selling 300 tickets at $75.00 a pop and will sell out. That's $22,500 of guaranteed revenue and it'd take an avalanche of people quitting to dent that. People wouldn't be quitting because they hate the game either but because they love the game and want be more deeply involved; not less involved.

CRB didn't get 7 tickets, but he did make a bunch of silvers last run trying to buy tickets for other people. Why not advertise that you got X amount of tickets and for only 10 million silvers he'll get you one too! As for scripts I don't really see how they would give you a huge advantage. Getting a ticket manually is pretty straight forward. You click on the button and then click purchase when you see it. Otherwise you go back a screen and try again.
Two attempts, two tickets.

I never said no one bought multiple tickets. I said no single person bought 7. I cannot check ISPs, I'm an offsite GM. But I can use a handful of tools to cross reference some things. But really, what would you like me to do? I'm an independent contractor, I work from home. I can't change the billing system. It's the same billing system we been using for quite some time.
If we offered tickets in a flat 100 batch, it would definitely up your probability to get a ticket if you're available during the time for release, but it would also decrease your chances to going to the event if you didn't get a ticket to 0 (for that run). We took some critical feedback over the years to offer tickets this way. There are definitely a great number of vocal people who dislike it, but there are people out there that appreciate it. This wasn't the first time we did tickets this way. But changing ticket sales after the fact would be worse, not better, so once this train got moving, it's not stopping until August (when the last batch go for sale).
As for the other issues, it's not staff causing the issue. It's players. I'm not personally preventing anyone from going. What do you want us to do to players that do this? We're a pretty small community of player as far as online stuff goes.
As for more runs, it won't be happening. The reason for the limited scope is because it's intended to be limited in quantities that we offer. I already got approved to do 78 more tickets this year from the last CCF.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just questioning whether it's prudent to brag about said feat. It may be that Simu doesn't care about where they get their money, as has been said, and won't actually do anything because they are still selling tickets. I'm also not one of the ones complaining on the officials, though I do enjoy watching the spectacle.

Two times I saw the purchase ticket screen, both times clicking it resulted in a 500 error message. Then they were sold out.
Not really all that straight forward really.
As for a program to do it, if you wrote something that did that attempt in less then a second, and tickets sell out in 3-4 seconds.. do the math. It shouldn't take Bob to figure out that equation for you.

I just wish it was like the Airship god auction. You got in with a token or cash and just make all the services tickets that have to be redeemed. If you didn't win anything with the token you get a decent consolation prize.

True, he has changed a lot of things that needed changing, and did some stuff to make it better even during the festival.
That being said, he knew this ticket idea was a cluster fuck before they even went on sale, but refused to change it. After the first one, he could have changed it and didn't. No rule saying he can't. Wouldn't even have harmed anything.. except those people that would buy 1 ticket or more at each possible batch of tickets.. and that's who you should be trying to "harm" in a sense.
No.. at this point I really think it's another reason entirely as to why he won't change it.

I have no real issue with the event, I dislike the unlimited minor wins but otherwise think its been great. sure some of the majors and minors were backwards in my opinion but otherwise over all its been a great event. the ticket system on the other hand is a total and utter joke. Fairly sure a class room of first graders could have come up with a better system then this one.

yes and no. He rightfully pointed out he is a work from home contractor and got 78 slots more this year. Then he pointed out what pathetic whores some players are, but was honestly caught between a rock and a hard place. I think a lottery system for a ticket, bound to the account, would be a decent thing for one of the runs at least. You are not going to change the weak personality of people that buy tickets in order to upgrade items they will sell for hundreds of dollars in profit. Those people see this as an enterprise for profit and kingdom in which they win/rule/are respected for their genius. They want to "win".
I think Simutronics has a duty to its normal-people customers to try and offer normal people a chance at the fun stuff of their paid events. Particularly those that pay 40 bucks a month as a premium for our text world. Shit, even standard pays too much for the deliverable if we are honest. It is those people Simutronics should work on some sort of system that mitigates people like ...let us just call them our "merchants" that use this game as a source of income, Merchant of Venice style. They should not be allowed to cut that pound of flesh every fucking time.
An lottery, account spinner (like at a merchant), private email invitation to the winners, the goddamn ghost hook that would grab & drag a character into the lounge "he bro, wanna go to RCTF..if so say yes and here is a ticket you must redeem for an event ticket within 48 hours..only good for your account...so you cannot sell it like a whore". Many of you have ideas already that are probably better. It is up to Simutronics as a corporation to care. I do not blame Wyrom or their employees. I have been pumping money into ELanthia since 1995...listen to your customer base...and not just the ones that suck your simucock at simucon. < probaby overstated(I hope). Although, I would do...oh nevermind.

I would have tried to code it with a Major win per person, and 3 minor wins. Max. Would give everyone equal shot at items. No one would walk away empty handed. Could still sell stuff if you wanted. Granted, I am not always one for "fairness" but if you are paying money, you should get something. yeah, you are getting a SHOT at a major, or a consolation prize.. the rest of the event is purely a lottery.

How does one script something like this? Sounds bogus to me.
It's really rather easy to do if you know the right code (from what I understand). Basically you have your code send the POST request in to Simu's server and check the response. If it says you got a ticket then you're good, if not then do it again. The problem for me came from the fact that Simu uses ASP and I couldn't figure out how to get a program to properly emulate a browser in order to sign in, keep cookies, and go into the loop of sending the purchase request.
But that pretty much is all there is to the program unless you code in some interface for putting in the quest ID, Login, PW, character name, class, and level.
Now, anyone out there familiar enough with ASP & passing POST requests through to help me finish this and put everyone back on even footing so we can all be script kiddies?

You won't hear from Virilneus for awhile because he's on vacation this week. If the man did get 7 tickets then 5 were probably for other people. He told me last night he had 2 accounts he needed to get tickets for, and I believe they were his personal accounts.
I'm not sure if he wrote a program for this time, I know he did not for the last run and he did manage 3 tickets for himself on that run. 7 though seems crazy for one batch release and I can't even imagine. It is hard enough just to get one.

No way in hell I'm paying 75 bucks for a ticket, so I don't have a horse in this race...
Why would they allow accounts from the first run to be eligible to purchase tickets for the second and third runs? I can't imagine there was a lack of demand. Preventing multiple trips with the same account would at least create the illusion of fairness.
The next time they do a pay event, they ought to consider up'ing the cost to $150 or more -- I'm curious to see what the price ceiling is on this sort of thing, I imagine it is even more ridiculous than what I suspect.

I have tried 5 times now, had 2 friends try for me 5 times.. 1 ticket.
So you are a statistical anomaly.
I think 95% of the players that have tried to get a ticket didn't. Just because somehow you seem able to get one whenever you want doesn't make it likely that everyone can.

So does that mean that Simu should be billing the event as Go to RtCF with a button to sign up for FIOS? I have a 25 mb download cable.. only 5 mb upload tho. Seems mine isnt fast enough to get a ticket to go.
Ticket sales should not be dependent on who has the fastest internet, or Mad programming skills. I will admit, I have always gotten a ticket.. but thats because they never sell out in 3 second EACH and every time. Minutes, yes. But if you are at your computer, and ready to go.. it is generally easy to get 1 of 75 say. 1 of 25, not so much.

Well looks like i fucked up the timezone somehow. Le sigh. Here we go again.
Me too. I didn't try too hard but heard someone talking about it on lnet. I thought what the hell, it's 20 minutes to midnight EST so I'll give it a shot. Right place and right time, so I thought. Kept refreshing and nothing...not even that they were on sale or sold out. My guess is it was a different time than midnight eastern standard. I tried to navigate the officials and was reminded how much I hate that dinosaur POS system, and gave up pretty quick. I looked for a bit on here but didn't see specificaly when the first batch was going on sale.
It's a great event, no doubt. I would pay $75 for a ticket, even though that's a little pricey in my opinion. I can justify it that id get good enjoyment from it and an opportunity for something more valuable item wise than the cost of admission. However...I can't afford nor have any desire to manage my time for a lucky shot at getting one. I've got too much other shit going on besides gemstone. Eff it - if it is that difficult to get a ticket than I don't want to be a part of it. CRB can have them all for all I care.

In another thread on RtCF, I touched on the people that corner the market on most events/items. Others have commented on it. Everyone knows it, but the practice many times is defended. It is anyones right to own as many accounts as they want, and buy as many tickets as they want. But I think it diminishes the spirit of events like this, when they are cornered by a few MA'ers.
But... the real issue is that this game has become so much about real money, and selling coins/items for real money, that the idea of 1 person going to an event 1 time no longer enters the mind of the upper tier, full time players/merchants. Lately it seems like it doesn't enter the mind of most players, as the only way to get ahead.. is spend a few hundred dollars to buy coins.
Everyone just sees it as a way to corner the market on something, then sell it to those that couldn't click fast enough. Or have jobs and couldn't be on at the specific time (seriously? 12 EST? Right in the middle of a work day?)
It's not as if we have 50,000 subscribers playing this. We are a small community. We are stagnant in our numbers the past few years. And as I said before (and got pretty much heckled for saying), the more that items/coins are cornered by a select few (who again have every right to do it), only dimishes the overall experience for the community.
If you've been once already.. try not logging onto those other 5 accounts you have and buying 5 more tickets. Let 5 other real people go and enjoy the event. Won't happen of course.... the all mighty dollar reigns. Forget the experience and community that Gemstone was and I believe supposed to be.
Again.. everyone has the right to do what they want.. and long time serious merchants have worked hard for what they've earned. But it has become so one sided... /shrug.
I wish everyone luck on the next RtCF.. should be fun and hope you get a ticket.

There are a number of people that make real money.. and very good money on this game. Not sure how you haven't realized this yet.
Almost all high end items are bought/sold in some fashion with a real $ component.
I personally do not deal in the real $ market, but I have played long enough to be.. lower/middle class with regards to my silvers/items. All of the older/respected/well stocked merchants have worked multiple years to aquire what they have, and I've known a number of them over the years. I respect the effort they have put in.
I am trying to make the point that we are no longer the 1500+ primetime playerbase we were. Through MA'ing and account sell offs items and the ability to trade/buy/sell certain items is very limited in the hands of a few nowadays.
It is what it is, and on a personal level in game, I enjoy 99% of everyone I know and have met. I love my in game time. I just have a disdain for the continuing push towards the real $ market that Gemstone is becoming. Would be nice to have someone sell something and not say: "FOR SALE 20 mil or $300!!" every now and then.

I have realized that people sold things from time to time for cash. What I have not realized is that people do this in lieu having a job. That their main purpose of a GSIV account is to make cash for living expenses.
If you've got extra coins, or a nice weapon lying around and sell it for a few bucks, that's fine. If this is game is the way you make a living, that's fucked and hurts everybody else.

I have known for a long time that some people in other games use that game to make a living (as an extreme example, there are people in China who make more money playing games than by farming). Second Life is another venue (I guess I don't think of it as a game) where a few people make a living off other players.
But I didn't know until fairly recently that there might be a few people using GSIV for much of their income. I have to say I don't support the concept, but I don't see how it can be fixed without causing a disruption in the game itself. And I really don't want breakage implemented.
I hope whoever is using GSIV for much of their income find more productive ways to earn a living.

Cwolff,
Appreciate the explanation and I appologize for the ignorant comment.
I do agree with you that from time to time, to sell something for real $, sure.. will happen. In the past it used to happen. I recall Ciston's once a year or so massive auctions he would hold. It was an event! A special event, though for real money, that anyone could attend and have that once in a life chance at some freaky items.
I don't know if people make their "living" off this.. what I do know is people make thousands, and multiple thousands, off of this game... which I assume suppliments whatever they do in real life.
Nice flashback-read: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/03/28/technology/virtual-game-weapons-bought-with-real-money.html?scp=4&sq=gemstone%203&st=cse
and: http://forum.gsplayers.com/archive/index.php/t-45772.html
I knew all those people..and those merchants were rare, rare, rare.
Nowadays, in my view, every deal/sell/trade is compared to the real dollar market, which I see as a blemish for the game. All I am trying to say.

Virilneus, you have added a lot to this game. You have a firm grasp on sorceror stuff and know this world intimately. But you are also a proper demonstration of wrong. As long as you get yours and "win" gemstone it is fine. No one will penetrate through your selfishness, and it is not worth trying. Of course you were exaggerating or outright lying/trolling. It doesnt matter if *this time* was a joke. You are almost as morally decrepit as bubbauno was. He, however, was a legitimate thief. You are merely greedy almost to the point of theivery. If Gemstone were the the Old West, you would be running an railroad. That is not a compliment. I know you dont give a fuck about my or anyone else's opinion. Just drive on and play it how you want to.
I take the railroad as a compliment, I was also going to offer to try to buy you a ticket on the third run for free since you're deployed, so see I do have a heart, I am not the tin man.
As for me offering my time to help someone who doesn't have the time or ability to buy a ticket, that doesn't affect anyone other than me and the person buying, and so far I've been overbooked for it, so obviously there is demand.
I'm on record saying this ticket distribution method sucks, but it is what it is, and if I have more than one account (and have for years/decades) I certainly have as much right to take those accounts as anyone else (and yes, its no where near 7, honestly, people are gullible, I bought 1 ticket to run 2). I'm not cheating or doing anything anyone else can't do.
I could easily bitch and say I never get to participate in invasions or storylines because they're like at midnight eastern on weekdays, and that'd be true, but hey, I can find the time to go to events, and I enjoy that, and I pay for that pleasure, and if you don't like it, that's your cross to bear.

Honestly I have to agree with crb on this one. While i think its arrogant and distasteful (using nice words here) to flaunt multiple ticket purchases, in the end he is just working the system. The system of ticket purchases is the real problem, if it even is one. I really don't think Simu gives two shits whether a casual player attends vs a mega player. They still get there's.
The only recourse you have would to get enough players that share your discontent in a unified manner, speak out against the event release method and demand change. Then, and only after doing so and giving Simu ample chance to respond and make ammends, if they refuse you hit them where it hurts - their walets.
I have no such interest in doing this...just pointing it out.

There is 0 chance to have any ticket sale changes for the remaining RtCF batches. Because of the overboard outcry at this point, they have to stick to their guns. You can only hope this is the last event done in this manner and from the 2013 EG have it go back to the old way, or a potential new one.

I also need to say that I don't hate CRB for anything he does. Something has to find his website, which is the most accurate foraging and dwarven grunting site on the web.
I also don't approve of people getting multiple spots and some of us have a "chance" yet the same people get the same number of tickets and constantly hit it big at these events. I wouldn't mind a little lucky every now and then. Hell, all I want is the Coraesine raffle...and I can't even sell that!
CRB is a good guy. He's always made himself available to instruct me on game or script matters. He always answers and he is rarely condescending, but maybe it's the way I approach him. Either way, he's a major part of GS like those who came before him, if he makes some money playing to keep him interested and here to help those of us with less time to dedicate to the game. Fuck it. Give him a fucking spirit bow.

This isn't quite accurate. The ticket sales method will not change, but chances are you will be seeing at least two less spiders bogging the system during the third run. It's also possible that two more people will try the method and bog the system anyway I guess... I don't think ticket releases will ever be done in such small batches with such open "Black Friday" rushes again.

What do you mean? I am pretty sure that the number of accounts eligible to attend far surpasses the number of tickets. So if someone has a way to guarantee a ticket spot for someone who would either normally not attend or be unable to purchase a ticket a deal should easily be able to be worked out where the ticket getter either gambles for a service or just requests a part of any proceeds from the event. What makes you think its going to be reduced?

I said 7 tickets because I thought it was a ridiculous number no one would believe. I was both shocked and amused people believed me. Next time I will pick an even higher number, 73 or something. I mean, if I claim I got 73 tickets after only 25 have been released and people believe me, they're definitely idiots, there is no forgiving that.

I've worked very hard to cultivate a reputation and if you post like that you'll ruin it. Damnit.
To be clear though, I'm not one of those who farms Gemstone for RL spending money, as discussed earlier in this thread. I don't really participate in the cash market at all, only taking cash for something instead of silvers if the buyer insists and I have no other buyers, or vice versa if the seller will only accept cash and I really want the item (and in both cases the person must be a known trustworthy individual for me to even consider cash), and I don't buy or sell silvers.

I never had any intention of going so who got how many is not a big deal to me, besides, I am too poor from buying things which seem to be devalued from people looking to collect money for the event.
It is capitalism at its purest, and as a free market guy I could never complain about that. What I can complain about, is the same thing so many have, the system to get a ticket seems so jacked up it is beyond belief. I am not saying I have any way to fix it, but the people I pay out my $40 a month to should know better.

and not through a work from home contractor. Please give us customer feedback on the this ticket buying situation. I have been playing GS since 1995 off and on. The off part is always for differing reasons, but this sort of thing is definately one of them. If you care about your customer base, it would be nice to see an actual manager or executive from Simutronics weigh in. It is always the usual suspects that gobble these things up in order to resell for real money profit. Not everyone, of course, but enough. I realize multi accounters are people too and a paid account is a paid account. I think you owe more to your loyal customers for our little outdated but addictive text world than seeing us only as numbers on a balance sheet. That is the feeling I have anyway.

I don't understand why people keep demanding the same answers over and over again when they have already responded.
The system is what it is. And you can see by posts here that people are "getting lucky" and winning tickets. You probably have a legit number of players at 3 to 1 clicking for tickets. Has anyone not experienced a black friday online deal before with a release time? It happens all the time with Newegg daily deals and such during cyber monday or black friday.
Edit: So yesterday I got frustrated with the system because I didn't get tickets to either round one or to the first two releases for this run because the site is blocked from work and I have to take lunch at 12PM central time(not 11am!). So that cut my chances directly in half. So this morning I asked co-workers if I could bribe them with free lunch if they tried to get me multiple tickets. I ended up with 9 people trying for me along with my wife and brother and with those 11 people I was able to get one ticket. So maybe see if you can get a couple friends who have tickets to help you try for another one. People at CCF are pretty nice about trading their wins or whatever.

People just are not realizing that their is probably close to 2500 active GS accounts, and with 25 tickets at a time... it will only take 1 second for them to sell out. The reason the 'same' people get tickets is because they are just better at it. I don't go to NFL games and bitch to the management that I don't get a jersey and get to play. GS merchant types became merchants because they are good at it. It is partially luck, but it is also a faster internet connection and doing what it takes to increase your odds, closing all other open tabs, closing AIM, closing anything that may slow down your internet service, and then some good luck. But I will not believe that someone is running a program just to do this. This is a battle of statistics, not cheating. Also, bitching on the officials in the manner that is happening is not going to help the player base at all, it is going to discourage GMs from wanting to give back to the playerbase.
This is along the same lines of people writing scripts for lich, putting them on the repo for free, and then people bitching about them and demanding updates.

(actually, I cleared my cache and shut off all other programs and didn't get the error this time)
That would explain your lack of bitching this time.

Good. Playing victim is less satisfying than being a victor.

I'm not ashamed to admit I'll be selling off the major/minors I may get from this run.
Same.

I actually still hate this system, it's stupid in the extreme. All tickets for sale at once seemed to result in less MA's, or at least it seemed to in the past.
Of course, I owe the major to someone already, and can't get the one item I actually wanted. So I am going to hopefully win a few useful minors.

Latinsorm, He isn't using a program to get tickets. He only got 1 ticket the last time around. He can only manage to get 1 ticket per instance. If he was using a program of some sort I'm sure he could get more than 1 ticket per release. He even failed to get a ticket for one of the first releases for someone. He's not using a program, he's not cheating the system, he is manually going through the sign up screen.Oh, I see. In that case my very serious warning about being imploded IRL can be disregarded.

Ok this did make me smile thank you. I took that as the whole being banned, not that you were actually speaking seriously about being imploded. I know there are times that I wish I actually knew the spell immolate. When I'm driving and I wish I could immolate the idiot driving discourteously I realize that I need to take some time off of GS. :)

It happened before? How many times? Was there a default value set in the option list? When was this unlimited EG: was it before or after the latest .NET incarnations? Could people not have followed a genericly placed informational URL that contains a querystring that caused this?
Because you've seen it before doesn't mean that it's not related to behavior that is now being scrutinized - And I'm not trying to witch hunt. I'm trying to pull down the curtain that everyone seems to have up keeping them from seeing that many of their ticket opportunities are illusory. If they'd rather go forward with their head in the sand, that's alright by me... I've gone to RTCF. For those of you who want an outlet for your ire, the scripts and bots do exist. At least three different versions. I am 100% sure of this and told you all last run - but nobody believed me.
And to the neg reppers who don't sign 'em who are saying I'm crying about something, read and follow Tisket's sig. I think it's appropriate. Why would I cry about botters and scripters when I've got my tickets?

So you made a script to do it yourself. Good for you. You should report yourself to Solomon for your voiding.

People are buying into the bot conspiracy too much.
I had an alarm set for tickets today. Woke up an hour or two before then, and while I was taking my massive morning dump, I pretty much decided I wasn't even gonna bother with trying to get a ticket.
Then about 10 minutes before they went up, I changed my mind. Sat at my PC, opened Chrome, went to the page, spammed the BUY button and the BACKSPACE key until the list showed up, clicked the confirmation button or whatever it was, and had the #7 ticket.
It's not complicated and just requires a little bit of luck, not some script or whatever. I would have gotten a ticket for the last run too if I was aware that you could leave the character box blank, and I did that one from school on their shitty Pentium 4 PCs, and I was using F5 to refresh in Firefox instead of how I did it this time. (Hitting backspace in Firefox gave me that error page, whereas Chrome didn't, making Chrome the winner).
If I end up going myself, I'll be selling everything I win except maybe one major. If someone wants to work out an access deal or for me to try to get them a ticket tonight, PM me. If you have nice boobs, PM me also.
All that said, the system Simu set up for these tickets is still gayer than Perez Hilton.

Why are people even trying to compare EG to RtCF? EG always has something like 1000 tickets. That's a completely different setup. Has it ever sold out before?
The sheer stupidity that errupts whenever these tickets go on sale is amazing.

It's funny to see how you complain about this when you were the who claims to have made a bot then you even tried to sell it. You even said you got tickets from it. I'm also pretty certain you went last run, and oh.. look you're going again this run. How convenient you can get all these tickets. If anything this needs to be shown to Solomon and get slit-eye sent to the void.
