View Full Version : What to do with Bounty Points? Here's my tier 10 box results

Ok, since everyone is getting their fixskills and fixstats through Simucoins now, I decided to do a little experiment to determine whether or not it was worth it to use BP to purchase treasure boxes from the Adv. Guild.

I cashed in for 100 boxes total, all tier 10. Not exactly a giant sample size, but I wasn't personally willing to spend more than 250k bounty points on it, which is what 100 tier 10 boxes will cost you.

I noticed that they gave regional loot, so after the first 50 boxes purchased in RR, I switched to Teras for the last 50 boxes to see if there would be any difference in Loot.

Although it reduces the exact accuracy a bit, for purposes of this list I lumped gems into 3 categories: High, Medium, and Low. Low is anything that has a natural average (unsung, 0 trade skill) value under 400 silvers (brown zircons, star diopsides, and the like), Medium is 400 silvers to 2500 silvers (some dreamstones, violet/yellow sapphires and the like), and over 2500 (uncuts, firestones, etc). Total Silvers is the total of all cash silver found in the boxes, Clothing/Jewelry/wand/misc totals are total silver value with 0% racial/citizen penalty and 40 ranks of trade skill. Misc. Magic Items includes things like blue/black/white crystals, small statues, and quartz orbs. There were no scrolls or enhancives of any kind found out of the entire 100 boxes.

So, here goes:

RIVER'S REST TOTALS:

Total Silvers: 114,780

High: 12
Medium: 10
Low: 24

Wands: 2,517

Clothing: 900

Jewelry/sculptures: 11,926

Misc. Magic Items: 915

RtCF Envelopes: 12 (all posters)

Scarabs: 5

Rough Estimate total silvers value from 50 boxes (125k BP): 220,000 silvers

TERAS TOTALS:

Total Silvers: 115, 513

High: 13
Medium: 17
Low: 26

Wands: 1,619

Clothing: 1,722

Jewelry/Sculptures: 20,115

Misc. Magic Items: 1,138

RtCF envelopes: 8 (all posters)

Scarabs: 1

Rough Estimate total silvers value from 50 boxes (125k BP): 230,000 silver

Out of 100 boxes, there were exactly ZERO armor, weapons, scrolls, or enhancives of any kind.

Random notes:

Highest lock was -900, highest trap was -360.

Gems found were very regional; firestones and moonstones on Teras, Mermaid's tear sapphires and shells in RR.

The "Rough Estimate total value silvers" at the bottom of each table is considering unsung, 0 racial/citizen penalty (or bonus), and 40 trade skill.

If I were to actually purify all the gems and use Thondalar to sell them on 4 winds, you could probably bump each category up by another 75-100k.

I may be getting a fixstats here in the next month. If you have bounty points to burn, I'd be just as happy buying a fixstats from a PC as from the SIMU store.

Well that's sort of the issue...they're so cheap now because of Simucoins, people would rather just save their BP for recharging enhancives.

Here's the thing. You make enough silver doing this and they'll just nerf that crap as well.

Thanks for the research, I had been thinking of redeeming pts for boxes since just about every other option to liquidate has been nerfed.

The lack of enhancives in 100 T10 boxes, as well as those paltry totals pretty much rules that out now.

Heh...these are pathetic results. You'd make more money selling fixskills, even at the current rate.

Unless I'm looking at this wrong, he has a raw value of 450k from those boxes, but could have spent the amount of BP on fixstat before simucoin store and sold it for what? 20m?

I also think it odd that out of 100 tier 10 boxes that he didn't find any armor, weapons, enhancives, etc.

Ha, quickly evolving thread :/

Sorry you wasted your points, but I'm sure the community appreciates it. I know I do.

250k BP gets you one fixskill, which sells now for what? 3m or so?

Actually, looking back over my notes, I did find a mithril aventail in one of the River's Rest boxes. It got lumped in with the "clothing" category for some reason. It was plain, and is all of that category's value besides 214 silvers for a frumpy silk dress.

Yes, was making the point that simucoins were bad enough, but were compounded with the apparent over priced boxes.

The only thing else you could try would be to go to Zul and do it, and see if perhaps you get a better payoff due to low hunting pressure? I doubt it would apply, but would be interesting to see if it mattered. Either way, the likelihood of breaking even is slim to none.

I think at this point your best bet is to charge items for people at 16 silvers per point give or take.

Trouble there is if we all do that, the competition will probably drive the price down. No win situation.

Thanks for this info. I always figured buying treasure boxes was a waste of bounty points, and you have confirmed it.

Have you posted these findings on the officials somewhere? Honestly, 100 tier 10 boxes without any enhancives or anything seems like it would be worth looking into as a potential bug in the box-loot-creating system.

Thank you for being the testor and using up your hard earned bounty points for everyone's benefit. << Needed to be said.

I would have expected more than that in just coins. It's such a horrible payoff that it has to be a mistake. Either that or they're worried about abusing the system for boxes so they make the payout horrible. Or maybe character level plays a role?

I was just a little curious about whether or not it was level-dependent so I bought 5. I averaged 6k/box with a capped character. Pretty much fits into Thondalar's distribution. Looks like average loot for level 40ish.

In the steel strongbox (-665 lock):
gem (1): a green tourmaline (100).
other (2): some silver coins (2.5k), a sealed parchment envelope.
food (1): a fresh cinnamon doughnut.

In the monir chest (-750 lock):
clothing (1): a gem studded silk satchel (3lbs, SA, 2k).
gem (1): a snowflake zircon (100).
other (1): some silver coins (1.5k).

In the mithril coffer (-700 lock):
gem (2): some pink mithril-bloom (100), a petrified mammoth tusk (6.5k).
other (1): some silver coins (2k).

In the mithril box (-425 lock):
gem,uncommon (1): a green alexandrite stone (2.5k).
other (1): some silver coins (2.5k).

In the silver trunk (-540 lock):
gem (3): a large yellow diamond (6k), a star sapphire (1k), a blue spinel (100).
other (1): some silver coins (3k).

Well, I took this into consideration when I started in River's Rest. Generally the loot is better there than similar levels in other areas. The reason for moving to Teras for the last 50 was because I noticed I was getting local loot, and I figured maybe the RR level cap of 62 was affecting the outcome. There was a very slight increase in the total for Teras over RR, but I attribute that to finding several firestones and blue diamonds that had a higher base value than even Tamzyrr diamonds in RR.

Every aspect of the loot system in GS is complete dog shit. Scatter loot being roughly the same (probably a little worse) as planes 4 and 5, despite Scatter being way more difficult than both, Nelemar and OTF having shitty loot 99% of the time, level 40-60 areas typically having better loot than any capped area, shitty BP boxes, nerfing the value of those other items you buy with BPs, etc., the whole thing is just retarded and is probably the dumbest loot system in any game I've ever played.

Not surprisingly, everything is working fine as far as Simu is concerned.

I bought 5 T10 boxes on my level 42 character in IMT out of curiosity. For the record, you cannot get LM reps off of them (guess that thought was too good to be true).

Silvers: 13952
Pawnshop: 925
Gems: 11975

Total: 26852

Looks close enough to the other results that it's probably not level-dependent.
