Hey,
I just hit 30 with my wizard and was wondering if anyone could give some advice on adding AS.
I've got 30 Minor Elemental, 32 ranged, maxed perception.
I suppose I'm missing combat maneuvers and then ranks of minor elemental, and earth lore... Anything else?

Think that's about it, did you check the thread above this one with archer mage info in it?

Yeah a bunch of times. I suppose I should keep checking when I have a question.
It looks like CM doesn't affect Ranged AS. It looks like only Earth Lore and Minor Elemental ranks at this point.

not earth lore. thats just strength.
sorry, tablet typing
just keep MnE up to level for 425 potency, make sure to use 4x+ bow, ebladed and master fletched arrows. Also work on getting up to 51 MjE for haste potency.
as long as youre using an enchanted bow and good arrows, your AS should be sufficient

Ah that's even better than I thought. No messing with earth lore or CM.

Definitely. 15 ranks at max though. At the very bottom of my list.

How much AS do you think you're getting from your ambush and perception ranks?

I think you're thinking of 15 ranks of ambush to help with open aiming with melee weapons. I don't think wizards can really afford any ambush ranks. Be sure to read the krakiipedia article on ranged weapons, the art of the bow and that wizard guide here written by Whirlin's bow.

No. I probably used the wrong words. You get +15 AS at MAX ranks from ambush as a wizard. 100 ranks - 40 ranks = 60 ranks / 4 = 15 AS.
With perception at least you are getting multiple uses out of it. With open aiming ambushing is only good for AS.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about ambushing until way past post cap.
If you still feel like ranged attacks are ineffective, then I'd recommend changing up your playstyle to utilize proper openers. Since you're at level 30, you should have 24 ranks of air lore. Go ahead and open up with a 505 bolt as a disabler, and then finish off with arrows.
Being an archer mage is less about relying on one attack form or another, and much more about utilize both to their maximum potential when necessary.
But that being said, as long as you're using a 4-5x bow, and either e-bladed or master fletched e-bladed arrows, your AS should be sufficient at that level.
What are you hunting that you're having trouble with, what are your stats, skills, and gear?

Oh, I'm not having trouble at all. I'm pretty much destroying everything right now. I'm aiming leg and just staying perm hasted and swapping to the head when they get downed. But I didn't think about 505, that sounds like a cheap disabler, I'll have to start using it.
I'm just planning for the future.

You'll be absolutely fine following the guide I've written.
Your AS will not begin to really slow down until about 70-80, once you have maxed out 425 potency, when it will be equal to that of something like a ranger (I have another post on this as well)... Post 80, you're relatively a little weaker, but if you followed that THW thread, just because it's relatively a little weaker doesn't really mean it's not viable. It may limit your hunting potential slightly, but that doesn't mean that you're
70s+ is when having the disabler opener becomes more important. You're probably fine not worrying about it til then... But it just was really to highlight that you can be viable in both spells and arrows, and you don't need to feel locked down to one or the other while hunting. I know in Maaghara, I used to 906 the Shricken, 505 and then arrow the Golaeris, and then just arrow the Moulis. It's all about maximizing potential.
Remember also, at 51+ MjE, you'll be able to aim a longbow in 1 second with only a 5 STR bonus! So I dunno what type of bow you use... but yay longbows for max DF.
