So for the past few days, starting at like 8:30 and ending in the early morning, my connection has gone to complete and utter shit. I'm not currently downloading anything, and it generally just happens out of the blue, fast one minute and then like using two cups connected with kite string the next. I've done a search for spyware with Spybot S&D, that got rid of all the spyware. Last night I did a full virus scan, that got every virus. It's never been like this before, on but really fucking slow, is it my fault or Comcast's? If it is mine, wtf can I do to fix it?

do you have windows update on automatic download? I was in a similar situation once, and that was the reason for the massive slowdown.

I do, but I should have everything I need.

If it is on automatic download, then check to see if it's downloading Service Pack 2, because the only way to currently recieve that update is by the automatic update, and it's really, really slow, and it seemed to draw a lot on my PC's resources.

Test your connection during the slow periods and see if it might be on the other end (comcast)...

it sucks even worse when windows is updating on dial-up :(

Even worse is norton's .. because you can't pause the fucking download.

8:30 at night?

Could be that your cable company crammed too many people onto your local network, which is causing slowdowns during prime Internet time.

Ctrl-alt-del things like crazy. That always fixes my computer when it's being slow.

Software conflictions suck ASS.

I was having basicly the same problems just a few min ago bro. But it stemmed to my computer as well. Took me a while to figure out what was freaking out my system, but it came out to be ZoneAlarm 5.0. So, ZoneAlarm is now gone :P

I turned off the automatic update, and that seems to have solved things for the most part.

Your welcome. I figured that had to be it, considering your PC was free of viruses and spyware. I was in the same situation, and called Comcast, Dell, and tried to call Microsoft, then gave up and tried to fix it on my own.
