View Full Version : World War Z
Seen it tonight. Went it expecting it not to be very much at all like the book. So I wasn't really let down. I think the name is what is going to make people be disappointed by the movie.
I enjoyed the movie as a Zombie Movie, and it took a few core things from World War Z and Zombie Survival Guide. Not to give any spoilers but it ended very good to set up for the book to be made into World War Z 2.
One could hope.
Overall, not terrible for a zombie movie. Some scenes were very well done and it gave a very good feeling of suspense. The PG-13 rating hurt it, and you could see where they used camera tricks to avoid gore which would of gave it the R rating.
I recommend people watch it, for the least reason is to lend support to hopefully the book being done in number 2.

That's what I kind of expected. Decent action/zombie movie, but not in the style of the book, which is what drew me to it in the first place. If they would have only called it Zombie Apocalypse X or something, I wouldn't be so rumprustled.

It didn't match the book? I was really hoping that they would capture it... I guess they just took the parts together in the book and formed a solid narrative? The book is great not for the zombies but for how each country and individual deals with such a huge change to their lives.

I'd say less then 5% of the book was used directly in the movie. Best way to compare the movie to the book would be to say its in the same world as world war Z. But more of a separate story that takes place at the outbreak
Also no lobos.

Is Brad Pitt even the same narrator as the book? Or is Brad Pitt completely created? That's so disappointing. Remember that scene in Japan with the guy in the apartment building and he jumps from balcony to balcony? That scene I couldn't wait to see in the movie. There were so many great scenes I'm sad they didn't use it.
Brad Pitt's character isn't in the books. At least I don't remember him being so. He definitely is not the narrator/interviewer.

I was going to skip this movie because of all the bad reviews I've been reading about it.. but maybe I'll give it a try.

Yeah. I went to a pre opening last night. Movie was only half full. Not sure if people didn't realize the theaters were running it on Thursday night. But it didn't bode well for the movie.
I'll admit I love all sorts of zombie movies. It's rare for me to see one I don't like. This one was far from my favorite. But I enjoyed it. They wasted a lot of money on it though. Apparently it started with 125 mil budget. Then ended up with over 400 mil spent. From reshooting the third act and some un expectant costs.
They had a directors cut they was ready to be released in December. But scraped almost 40 min of movie for the reshoot.
It apparently had pitt going to Russia to release slaves and those slaves inturn goin around win lobos.
Who knows it still may make it to DVD release. But $400 mil is going to be hard for this movie to break even. I'll be surprised if it makes 80 mil during its theater run sadly.

I'm still gonna see it cause it's... Brad Pitt + Zombies, I just think they should have the name be World War Z (no relation to the book)

The movie was good just as a zombie movie. Don't expect it to be like the book and you won't be disappointed. I enjoyed it as a standalone. If they really wanted to re-create the book, it would be better as a miniseries (which of course would have to be watered down for TV, bleh). One thing I found annoying was that the zombies didn't actually act like Max Brooks claims they do in Survival Guide. They were able to do things/surmount obstacles he claimed they couldn't. The scene with Jerusalem? If MB is the authority, the wall of zombies falling into the city should have taken days, not minutes.
