Lich/GS Launcher Problems :(

Hey, so I just got another laptop since it's a hassle to lug around my HP. It's a Dell Inspiron with Windows 8. Not sure if that matters, but here's my problem. Downloaded Lich as usual, prompted it, nothing. Tried reinstalling the launcher, nothing. Reinstalled ruby, nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled, still didn't take. I scrubbed my registry clean of everything GS related, installed, and still it isn't working. Scrubbed one more time, except to isolate my problem I only installed Stormfront and the Launcher, which works fine. Then I installed ruby and lich and everything and it stops. When lich is installed, it's like it doesn't prompt the right programs and keeps timing out. I don't know too much about this stuff so I won't go into theories :( But here is my latest debug information:

Any suggestions would be great. I know it's clearly saying that it timed out but no idea how to fix it :(

Did you look through the pc history involving the admin permissions required to use it on Windows 8?

It's a permission issue... Within the Lich Window, Click on the install path tab, and select the "Restart as Admin" option. From there, using the normal menus will launch the game.

If this works, to save you a couple clicks in the future:
Right click on Ruby, and set that to start as admin, then lich will auto-start as admin.. you'll still get the prompt, but it'll be before the lich window shows up, and should save you a couple clicks.

Still haven't gotten it to work :/ I'm two seconds away from stone cold stunning this dell. I logged onto my HP, everything looks identical. I don't know what else it could be. Or perhaps there's additional permissions with Windows 8? I don't know, just throwing things out there.

Yeah, I was talking about specific Windows 8 Permissioning... You need to restart Lich as an Admin, using the install tab (fourth tab on the Lich Entry), and then you should be able to run it perfectly.

Sorry, I didn't know what you were referring to. I always run as an admin, but for some reason it's not running. Must be something I'm overlooking.

Are you running Lich or Ruby as Admin?

How did you set yourself to be running as Admin?

If you open up Lich, and go to the "Install" tab, what do you see?

That's okay. My account is admin, then I go to the install tab and press restart as Admin. After that, no methods of entry work. SGE, Website, or Lich.

Having an admin account isn't the same as starting a program as admin. When you click the button in Lich to restart as admin, Lich should restart as admin, but only that instance of it. Trying to log in using SGE or the website will start a new instance of Lich which is not running as admin. If you click restart as admin and then use that same Lich window that pops up to log in, it should work. It probably won't, but it should.

I too am having this problem with Windows 8. I click the launch icon and it brings up Lich.rbw program. I clicky the install tab hit run as admin. It restarts and I see my characters name so it reaches the server. hit play and I see the hard drive access light blinking then nothing. I have re-installed ruby and lich to no avail. How many exp and quest points do I get for this? I have another PC which I have Vista Ultimate and it works great but not on this Dell with windows 8. Oh and when I go to play.net and launch storm it works fine on my Windows 8 laptop
