Wasn't an announcement per say... but they sold the software and scrapped the project quite a while ago now.

They should have sold out or teamed up with someone right away. Too bad they didn't and had to give it up in a fire sale.

It wasn't totally a fire sale. They managed to license HeroEngine a couple of years before they jettisoned it for good, while they were still (ostensibly) working on HJ themselves.

No, HJ was sold along with HeroEngine to Idea Fabrik.

I heard Idea Fabrik is trying to sell what's left of HJ (assets, code, etc) for $5k, though.
