Bonding to a fusion weapon

I'm not clear on how fusion weapons operate -- Does the fusion act the same as flares/weighting and exclude the plasma flares? Searched the forums but couldn't find anything about this, so any insight would be appreciated.

Fusion just means it has orb slots for enhancive orbs. Most come with 2 slots.
