so I just got a new video card, a Geforce GTX 650ti to replace my old one, and I am having a strange problem. About every 3-5 minutes my computer makes a clicking noise and locks up completely. Won't do a thing. Can't do anything until it goes click again, and unfreezes. If I am playing a game, it freezes, if I am web-browsing, it freezes, if I am doing anything at all, I get this dreaded "click" and my computer turns into a paperweight.
By any chance does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this?
I have an ASUSTeK Computer INC. CROSSHAIR 1.XX motherboard with a 2.60 gigahertz AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core processor.
This problem was not happening before I installed the new video card, and I have the latest drivers installed for the card. But I have no idea what is going on, or what could be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

make sure the video card is seated all the way in. Does your power supply have enough juice for the new video card?

What wizgem said I'd check both of those first, then next step is internal temp of the box (does it need holes drilled in it?).

If you drill holes in the box you won't be able to fill it up with liquids.

I have a 700W power supply in it, that is only about a month old. And it is firmly seated into the PCI slot (I checked). But the voltage is fluctuating between 1.09V and .88v, so I am guessing that this might be the cause of it. But I should have plenty of power.

700W sounds like enough power. The clicking sound right before the shutdown is telling...sounds like a temp relay tripping.

My CPU is running at between 49 & 57 C, my motherboard is running at a consistent 32 C, and the video card is between 45 & 46 C. Running CPUID Hardware monitor so it's keeps track of all this stuff.

Open up your case and determine where exactly the clicking noise is coming from. Your hard drive could be getting ready to bite the dust.

Does the click sound sort of like a mouse-click? Just curious about what this "clicking" sound sounds like.

Well bugger, turns out this was a PEBKAC error. I forgot to uninstall the old drivers for the replaced card. Normally Nvidea installers have an option to do a clean install which removes old drivers before installing new ones. Could have sworn I did that but.... Nope. So, anyway, thanks for the help guys, appreciate it

Well, as it turns out, it was neither my fault for not uninstalling/installing the right drivers, nor was the problem my video card at all. Turns out my SATA driver is telling my hard drive to shut off. Every 5 minutes or so, it sends a signal to my HD to turn itself off and boom, down it goes. Then it turns itself back on after another 5 minutes or so, and the whole cycle starts again. Took it down to a shop to have it looked at, and it turns out this is a problem with Nvidea sata drives that is known, but Nvidea won't release a patch for it, or fix it. The last update they did on the drivers was in 2011. So, I am looking at either replacing an otherwise perfectly good motherboard, or buying a new computer. :wtf2:

Or you could just buy, and hook the drives up to, a non nVidia SATA controller.

Maybe it would be much better to just reinstall an OS.
