Today I am officially a civilian. spent 9 years 5 months in the military and as of 8am today I am done. I know a decent number of folks on here are prior or current military, what all did you do to celebrate your freedom?

I think the loser is the one who would judge someone by how many friends they have on an anonymous internet forum..
edit: and being a friend whore, I'm astonished that somehow or other I missed sending an actual friend a friend invite. lol, I'm a slacker. The handle changes threw me. Sent.

I went to college, joined a fraternity and nailed a bunch of bitches over the course of a seven year quest to get my Masters. Good times.
I'm still doing the same thing in L.A. but my hair is a lot longer now. Cheers!
P.S. I would also like to say, that while we appreciate the freedom we get post service...others don't appreciate the freedom they get from our service..and they can suck a dick...a whole bag of dicks!
P.P.S. What town are you living in and do you have a job? I'm working on some stuff with NBC and other companies to make sure Vets get jobs right out of the service.
Why the question mark? You fucking useless piece of shit.
Jesus. I thought an exclamation point would sound snarky. Then I thanked him for his service. Calm the fuck down.

Congrats! I also ended up doing 9.5 years. Let me know when you start to miss it. My advice, do whatever you can to maintain a circle of Combat Veteran friends wherever you end up. They will be your sounding board and support system while you try to figure out this crazy thing everyone calls a "normal life." My usual advice is also for people like us to find a hobby, something you can use as a mental reset button, that takes your whole focus away from life periodically and isn't drinking. But you're already in GS, so I guess you've got that partially covered. If you can at all help it, stay the hell away from pills for things like depression, anxiety, ptsd, etc. Go to the gym and run regularly. Get your brain to create those chemicals that fight all that shit by maintaining a similar level of physical fitness. Best of luck, brother. There are far too many of us coming unglued later in civilian life and I work in the field now that gives back to those like us and I see it everyday. It's not all bad. You're going to have days like this too...

Awesome video! I have felt the way that dude has on a near weekly basis since being in Iraq nearly 10 years ago! Thanks for posting. God bless my fellow vets!

An exclamation point would have been better than a fucking question mark, you giant waste of space.

Spent 22 years, retired, tried to be a 'civilian' got my degree, that was fun, tried working could not stand the pace of the regular world, too slow, no accountability, now I am back doing the same thing I was right before I retired just as a GS instead.
Others have already given you some great advice, so I will just say thanks for your service.
P.S. Jace I agree that most do not even think about that fact that freedom is not free, it is payed for in the blood of the young men and women of this country, but I also know, I never did it for them, it was for me and my family, others were just unintended benefactors.

Yeah. It's so true. Everyone not in the military walks around like an ignorant zombie and is totally unaware of the protection it offers the citizens of this country. And no one appreciates veterans either. Also it is 100% true that those of us who haven't served don't do anything even remotely useful. Totally fair blanket statement. Not self-righteous at all.
Also congratulations to senorgordoburro for successful and safe separation.

Awesome, thanks everyone.
As of right now I am trying to get back to school and am currently self employed. I am in the process of starting up a small business that will keep me employed and flexible for a few years at least while I am in school and we will see where it goes from there. I am in the Northern VA area, and it is a pretty good area as far as employment opportunities.
Durfin's mom was actually working with me to build a nice resume and prepping for interview's since I hadn't ever had to do any of that before.
And finally, my beard is rather awesome already. I had 56 days of terminal, and it is going strong. The wife wants me to shave it, but that just isn't going to happen.

I'm not even sure where that last quote is coming from, did someone delete a post between yours and kutter's or something?
