Since there's been a lot of posts about it, and it's pretty fucking cool, thought I'd make a separate thread.

I'm pleased to announce a new item script designed specifically for members of the Order of Voln! I'm really excited about this one, and I hope you all will be as well!

The Basics: There are a total of four tiers for this armor, with the first being the off-the-shelf version. All tiers are considered functional scripts, as they do grant mechanical advantages to members of the Order of Voln. While some of the fluff verb traps will work for non-Volny types, the special mechanical advantages the armor bestows will only work for members of the Order. Armor possessing this script is intentionally not able to be ensorcelled. Further, individuals who are converted to Luukos CANNOT use the armor at all. The armor does not prevent player enchantment, and will accept standard padding and flares.

So what does it actually do? Good question!

Tier 1 (Off-the-Shelf)
* DS Flares against undead. Base chance to flare for Voln Members is 15%. Additional 5% chance granted to Voln Masters. Additional 5% chance granted to individuals converted to Voln. The amount of DS applied is equal to armor enchant, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 50.
* Handful of fluff verb traps. The fluff verbs that come with this tier are available to non-Volny types and Voln members alike.

Tier 2
* Automatic Symbol Of Need upon death (AutoNeed), at half the normal favor cost. Must actually know the Symbol in order to activate. Can be toggled on/off.
* Passive +10 Shear Fear resist against undead.
* Verb to toggle AutoNeed on/off. Available to Voln members only.
* Fluff verb trap, available to any. (Except you pesky Luukos people - get your own armor!)

Tier 3
* Phantom critical padding to augment 'standard' DS flare. If the flare fires but the DS boost isn't enough to prevent the attack from going through, it will go through with phantom critical padding in place. Amount of padding equal to half armor enchant, minimum of 5 maximum of 25.
* Locate nearby undead ability, nominal favor cost.
* More fluff verbs! (Available to members of the Order of Voln only)

Tier 4 (Auction Quality)
* Additional passive +10 Shear Fear resist against undead.
* 2x/day Symbol of Return that works while stunned/immobile/webbed. Full favor cost. Must already know Symbol of Return.
* MOAR FLUFF

The final messaging for activated and passive abilities is still in QC, so I won't be teasing any of that until it's all set and ready to go. But I was too excited about my latest script to sit on it any longer. I really do hope you like it at much as I do!

Just to clarify, just because the script technically allows for padding/flares/TD and stuff, doesn't mean it is automatically approved to do so. Like with all functional/combat scripts, there have to be specific approvals in place in order to offer enchanting/padding/flare adding and other similar services in order to do so. The functionality is always there, but the approvals may not be.

>> It doesn't give levels does it? Isn't the +10 to the die roll for shaking fear rather than the level it kicks in at.

It's not +10 to a die roll exactly, nor is it 10 phantom level. Fear mechanics are a bit more convoluted than that. The bonus it provides is on par with the fear resist effects from Dauntless, if that helps put it into perspective.

DS Flare

Standard

An ethereal triton sentry claws at you!
AS: +439 vs DS: +468 with AvD: +7 + d100 roll: +3 = -19
A clean miss.

2nd Person

Your rolaren full plate hums with spiritual force, filling you with a sense of divine vigilance and a preternatural awareness of an ethereal triton sentry. Anticipating its next move, you steel yourself against the oncoming assault!

3rd Person

Reidyn's eyes dart quickly towards an ethereal triton sentry and, her visage one of steely resolve, she readies herself for its assault!

Sorry, missed this somehow

>> Also, a question, will this armor provide Voln converts a 5% chance at increased DS if they're not in the society of voln?

No, you must be a current member of the Order of Voln in order to see any mechanical benefit from this armor.

You would need to be specifically converted to Voln in order to get the additional 5% chance at flare.

>> A question on your wonderful new armor script. Does it prevent player wizard enchanting? If not does it make enchanting more difficult?

As stated in the original announcement, no it does not prevent player wizard enchanting. Nor does it increase the difficulty to do so.

>> I guess the question I am trying to ask is would this be considered a functional combat script for us non-Volners who just want the awesome-sauce fluff scripts. Im assuming the answer is yes, and I need to debate whether it is worth it or not.

Yes, it would be considered a functional script even if its not intended to be used by a member of the Order of Voln. Without having the armor attune to a specific character, which isn't anything anyone would want I'd wager, there is nothing to prevent you (general you) from passing it off to a member of the Order at which point all the mechanical benefits would come into play.

And for you Voln-y types...

In the unfortunate circumstance where you die wearing Tier 2 or higher armor...

You see

As your last breath is ripped from your lungs, your failing eyes lock onto one last sight: Above you stands the Paladin Voln, blade drawn and ready. He offers you a single nod, his curt manner and fathomless eyes somehow reassuring even as death pulls you into the dark. As your body stills, you go with the knowledge that Voln himself guards your soul from undeath, that you might continue to walk His path. This time.

Others see

As <person> breathes his/her last, you perceive a faint silhouette standing over his/her form, unbending and poised to defend him/her. The image is gone without a trace before you can even be certain that you saw it at all.

Tier 3 Fluff
EXHALE A You tense slightly as the spiritual force of your <armor> swells, its powerful current manifesting as a flash of brilliant light. As you exhale, the light coalesces in your right hand, bathing your <weapon/runestaff> in white-hot radiance.
EXHALE B You tense slightly as the spiritual force of your <armor> swells, its powerful current manifesting as a flash of brilliant light. As you exhale, the light coalesces in your left hand, bathing your <shield> in white-hot radiance.
EXHALE C You tense slightly as the spiritual force of your <armor> swells, its powerful current manifesting as a flash of brilliant light. As you exhale the light coalesces around you, bathing you in white-hot radiance.
PUSH Every bone in your body seems to ache as you shift your stance, ever stoic. Lifting a wearied hand, you press your palm down over your heart, and silently turn your thoughts toward your devotion to Voln's path. In response, a hazy white glow rises from your <armor> and spreads, bathing you in a rejuvenating light that leaves you stronger and steadier in its wake.

* The script will first check for a weapon or runestaff in the right hand. Failing that, it will look for a shield in the left hand. Failing that, it will default to option C.

Tier 4 Fluff

There's only one fluff verb trap for Tier 4 armor, and it can only be used 1x/week. But it's a doozy!

You See

Focusing intently on your spiritual connection to the Paladin, you lightly trace the outline of a shield upon your <armor>. No sooner than the sigil is complete do you fall into a brief trancelike state, remaining only vaguely aware of a stern voice echoing at the edges of your consciousness.

Others See

Luukos Converts: <Person> focuses intently as <he/she> lightly traces the outline of a shield on <his/her> <armor>. No sooner than the sigil is complete does <he/she> fall into a brief trancelike state, <his/her> lips moving as though in silent prayer. As <his/her> breathless orison continues, an unnatural hum fills the air and a stern voice, heard only within the chamberof your mind, intones, "Tread cautiously, servant of the dark one. The laws of mortals cannot grant you amnesty from my justice."

Voln Converts/Members of the Order of Voln: <Person> focuses intently as <he/she> lightly traces the outline of a shield on <his/her> <armor>. No sooner than the sigil is complete does <he/she> fall into a brief trancelike state, <his/her> lips moving as though in silent prayer. As <his/her> breathless orison continues, an unnatural hum fills the air and a stern voice, heard only within the chamberof your mind, intones, "Beware the Snake and his abominations, for his lies are the path to ruin."

All others: <Person> focuses intently as <he/she> lightly traces the outline of a shield on <his/her> <armor>. No sooner than the sigil is complete does <he/she> fall into a brief trancelike state, <his/her> lips moving as though in silent prayer. As <his/her> breathless orison continues, an unnatural hum fills the air and a stern voice, heard only within the chamberof your mind, intones, "Follow me and you may know true purpose on this great crusade, the Eternal Struggle."

* These are a sample of the messages that people in the room will 'hear'. The actual message will be selected randomly from a handful of message sets for each of the three groups.

This may not come as a big surprise to those following the Items and Inventory folder, but for those of you haven't been - I've created a new script for armor specifically designed for members of the Order of Voln. You can read up on more of the details here: http://tiny.cc/VolnArmor

I'm pleased to officially announce that these armors will be debuting at Coraesine Field! They will be sold off-the-shelf at the Consigner Taeliryn's shop, Caravan Consignments. I'm still waiting on word on specifics regarding how many I will be able to unlock at each tier, any restrictions that may exist for placing this script on existing items, and whether this script will allow items to be eligible for other services such as padding, weighting, enchanting, or what have you. Rest assured though, I'll be sure to let you know when I do!

So, I got the allowed release numbers and, as promised, I'm sharing them with you! I will be releasing 10 Tier 2, 3 Tier 3, and 1 Tier 4 per run as MINOR services. I will also be able to add an unlimited number of Tier 1 level scripts to eligible armor. This is where we get to the tricky part. What is eligible armor?

First and foremost, the supplied armor must be entirely unscripted. No fusion, no scripted flares, no fluff scripts, no scripts of any kind. This is simply the only way it can work, as existing scripts are not compatible with this one. The second consideration is one of the existing properties of the armor. For the purpose of eligibility as it relates to this script, the final item AFTER the script has been applied shall not exceed 70 item property points, with points be calculated in the following manner:

VolnArmor Script Tier 1 = 0 points, Tier 2 = 5 points, Tier 3 = 10 points, and Tier 4 = 15 points.
Enchant Level 1 Point per point of Enchantment. 4x (+20) = 20 points, 7x (+35) = 35 points, and so on and so forth.
Common Flares 5 points. Common Flares include Fire, Ice, Lightning, Earth, and Vacuum.
Uncommon Flares 15 points. Uncommon Flares include Disintegrate, Disruption, Unbalance, Grapple, Plasma, and Steam.
Padding 2 point per point of padding. Somewhat (+5) = 10 points, Heavy (+10) = 20 points, and so on and so forth.
TD 2 points per point of TD. +10 TD = 20 points, +15 TD = 30 points, and so on and so forth.

Examples: 10x armor with Tier 4 scripts, total points = 65 | 7x heavily padded armor with Tier 4 scripts, total points = 70 | 10x heavily padded armor with Tier 1 scripts, total points = 70 | 4x armor with uncommon flares and Tier 2 scripts, total points = 40 | 7x with +15 TD and Tier 2 scripts, total points = 70

Additionally, armor with this script will NOT automatically be ineligible for other applicable services. The same thresholds for item property points would be applied to determine eligibility. For example, if you had 7x armor with Tier 2 scripts (40 points) you could add another enchantment (+5 points), or add heavy padding (+20 points). The resulting item would simply need to come in at or below 70 item property points.

Reply
1. Kroderine, Adamantine, and Zelnorn would be eligible, but the rare material-based flares would weigh in at 20 points.
2. Resistances will be considered, with each percentage point of damage reduction contributing 1 item property point.
3. CreatureBane will be considered, where the bane ability will contribute half the normal points (rounded up) as the ability would normally contribute. Common flares = 3 points, Uncommon Flares = 8, Heavy Padding = 10, and so on and so forth.

I am, as of yet, undecided on distribution methods or what cost will be associated when applying this script to existing armors. As far as the point system goes, I am not the creator or designer of it... I am merely relaying the info to you. Similar guidelines are in place for services, but the specifics of what is and is not allowed can and will change from one event to the next, and in some cases from one service to the next - so please don't take any of this as gospel for anything other than this armor script.

Since the officials are down, maybe I am just missing this. Do those property points only apply to RtCF or do they apply going forward after? I have a set of 7x with 30% resisting giving me only 5 points spare for Tier 2. If I got the tier 2, would it still be able to get enchanted either by PP later or player enchant?

So I am in a serious conundrum.

I got the Tier 3 put on my armor and now I have come to a crossroads where I either change my entire character around the armor. Switch to Voln from CoL and convert to Voln or sell it to someone who would use it better than I.

I really really really really love this armor. The scripts are absolutely amazing and fit my character to a T! But I don't know if I want to go down the road of starting all over. I wanted to see what you all thought. Should I sell it or keep it and do the switch.

The armor is 6x maxlight t3 voln 30% resistant to lightning. Can be further player enchanted to 7x too which I am considering.

Fallen

So, a couple of things. Upon additional review, it was deemed that having Voln watch over your corpse when you died in Tier 2 armor or higher was excessive, and so I was unfortunately not able to keep it in. Second thing, the WHISPER verb is not currently working if you are wearing an armor concealer at the time. I'm poking around and things, and I'll post here when I have any updates to give you!

Aww. That was by far the coolest thing associated with this armor IMO.

I am converting my rogue to Voln tonight. I will post some examples of the flares in action here when I see them. I have 7x HDP MBP with T3 flares, so the phantom crit padding along with the damage padding should be pretty epic. And the additional sheer fear protection will be nice, too, since I am planning to over hunt as much as possible until I hit master.
