Now... these are supposed to be very important, right?

How is it this freak can tell everyone's pin numbers, and he brings us to a table and tells us this?

See the log below for details, I reported and nobody bothered to get back to me. This is a serious issue.

>report This Shadowzblade fellow is somehow able to tell us all of our character PIN's by using a bug -- is someone listening to this? We're at a table.
REPORT should only be used to notify the GemStone IV staff of emergency situations or gamewide technical errors. Please use ASSIST for general support.

Message sent to all online game staff. While no staff members are currently on duty, there are likely to be several lurking behind the scenes to investigate your report. If you feel the need to speak with the staff, please type ASSIST for a list of options.

I'd venture a guess and say that Trane might be one of his other characters.

He told me my PIN, I just didn't want to post it.

I'm baffled then. Are you all on Psi Net?

Betheny
08-21-2004, 07:11 PM
No, Psinet is down... It's really weird... I reported but apparently the GM's don't give a fuck.

How important is a PIN anyway?

CrystalTears

Well the PIN identifies the character and usually it's what they ask in case you don't remember something about your account to verify.

Do you actually know all the PINs for your characters? Was he right? I mean... is he that retarded to admit in the game that he's abusing a bug to get PINs? :nutty:

Betheny

Yeah, he did, but apparently GM's don't care or something. I only knew because I checked it against my records. I purposely didn't ask for it in-game, just in case. AT any rate, my best guess is he can determine a PIN number by using the web skill manager database. He said so. He also said the gm's let him do so, but that's bullshit.

I thought PINs were only needed during the AOL to Web switchover. I haven't even looked at mine since that time period.

Betheny

I'm not sure, that's why I'm asking... I mean, he gave me the pin of a character that I don't even have active.

That's....interesting.

Interesting, but not really that impressive.

A poster here and I both reported a BUG with the fame lists awhile back that let you see other people's PINs if they were in the top 1000. It should have gotten fixed weeks ago.

IF a GM were to allow a player, especially an idiot like him, access to such sensitive information, wouldn't they want to know that this person is running around touting it? Basically saying he can steal your character from you if he wanted to?

CrystalTears
08-21-2004, 07:26 PM
I still think he's a crackhead for admitting such a thing. GMs allow him to my ass. :moon2:

My thoughts EXACTLY.

It's a little angering that they don't seem to be doing anything about it.

Mykala

if im not mistaken they ask for your pin number to transfer characters to another account as well, am I wrong about that?

Hulkein

Yes, you are wrong. They don't need a PIN number to transfer a character between accounts.

<<Shadowzblade says, "Last of tranes 314403.">>

That is not a PIN.

Your Character Index Number is xxxx.
Your Player Identification Number is
PIN# xxxxxxxxx-xxxx

Different character, different account:
Your Character Index Number is xxxxxx.
Your Player Identification Number is
PIN# xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxx

Character transfers require that you know the name of both accounts, the password and security answer of your own, and the character's first name.

The Character Index Number is the last 6 digits. If you know those 6, you do NOT know that person's complete Pin. And for reference, pin number's only real use was activating a character from an inactive account, or if the character did not have an account, and you needed another way of accurately showing you were the character.

Hello,

I cant remember the password for my inactive account. Would you transfer this character to my new account so I can see how I like the changes in GSIV? Oh yeah here is the PIN and I agree to the transfer charge and charge for an additional slot

Thanks in advance.

Hrm, so weird. Maybe they were listening and just didn't report back. I tried to go to the website and got nothing. Perhaps someone did see.

Heh, some people have been ripped off because their brand new character they've spend hundreds on from Ebay suddenly disappears all because of the above.

For the record, Maimara, Shadowzblade is an idiot. I don't think there's anything he can do with 6 PIN digits. He did the same thing to me thinking I'd help him or something. I told him to fuck off.
