Now that PS4 is coming I've been thinking about the entirety of the PS3 generation. What were the hits? What was remarkable? What were the flops?

Overall I've been very happy with the PS3. Quality games, decent performance, blu-ray playback, and no fees to play on line. Where I think they dropped the ball is making it a seamless media station for everything from TV to basic web browsing.

The top games:

Fallout 3
Skyrim
Call of Duty World at War

Bethesda takes the award for best developer. EA I think would be second. Those three games could keep you busy for a good long time.

The flops:

Playstation Home was a neat idea but turned into just another chat room. The photo, music, and video services were nice but did not follow through with useability. Streaming TV, games and movies works very well and I still use that aspect. It would have been nice for the PS3 to be more browser/internet friendly.

A brief outline of my thoughts on the life of the PS3 as we look forward to the PS4.

I picked up Ni No Kuni as my final title before PS4.

im gonna add my 2 cents in.. the "revamped" NFS: Most Wanted they released for ps3 was a horrible flop in my eyes. steared way away from the original and i really really didnt like it.

and thats coming from a HUGE Need For Speed game fan

In terms of exclusives (at least in the west) Demon's Souls and Tales of Graces f were both fantastic.

Thanks for the posts. It is helpful in this kind of nebulous time between systems.

Ni No Kuni is turning out to be pretty enjoyable. Its like FF with Studio Ghibli animation.

I like the Uncharted series a lot still too, though 1 and 2 > 3. Valkyria Chronicles is still great. I like it a lot better on PS3 than the silly portables.

I think it's better than any of the recent FFs.

The new one? Eh. Though my sister liked it.

Yep!

Demon's/Dark follow.

Oh yeah. I'm assuming you mean demon and dark souls. Both were incredible gaming experiences.

I liked Valkyria Chronicles.

Ni no Kuni was fun, but the end was either too late or too early.

Yes. I felt like I wasn't insulated from real video gaming by pretty graphics or easy mode gameplay.
