Looking to get at least tier1 ensorc on a katana that was checked and came up as "easy".

had it checked:
You sense that the dark steel katana has not yet been permanently ensorcelled and that you can only fail if you are horribly unlucky."

You lose major, major brownie points for converting an old style katana.

Yeah, that's crazy.. an 8x old style katana that was HCW would be awesome.

Speaking of Katanas, I have a 4x, HCW one for sale. Only 500k flat!

If it hits like a falchion, it's a falchion to me, no matter what the alter says. I never understood the the awe people had for faux-katanas but whatever floats their boat is fine with me.

If they altered a falchion into a light saber, it would still be a falchion to me.

Doesn't matter the base, it's still a katana. Falchion base is better than the OHE katana base too. Plus the only way you can dual wield katanas is with the old style ones. Not to mention you neutered the value of your weapon in terms of resale price.

This one was converted for 5 second two hand swings, 6 second ambushes, 6 second 2-hit mstrikes, minimizing the risk of being in offensive stance. It was converted to be awesome and not to resale. If it makes you happy to pretend a falchion or a broadsword is a katana, then that's all the matters for you and I respect that.

It's RP, call your falchion an eggbeater, don't let the text in game ruin your immersion.

Does the ensorcell convert it? Or did he convert it?

Original post was edited because someone helped me determine that it was indeed capable.

Having an 8x altered falchion is a cool thing. Having the alter say it is a katana gets all the japanophiles to loosten their pocketbooks. Having an 8x katana that is hcw is awesome. The math works out great. Its fast, hits like a truck, and can be aimed or multi'd in 6 seconds. It's a two hander that hits speed wise like an OHE.

That I have to explain this at all....

I'm not selling it. It's my weapon. It just need ensorcling.

It was still a really stupid thing to do. I'm surprised they converted it and gave it the weighting with it being over 7x. I talked to a GM some years ago and they would convert my 10x but not give it weighting, and I think they said they also wouldn't drop it to 7x and give it weighting.

It was an extraordinary weapon that can't be made ever again, and you made it ordinary. It was probably worth 30m+ before. Now it's worth, what, 5m tops? I'm glad you aren't interested in selling it, beause you ripped yourself off.

You lose points for even considering it.

I didn't consider it. I forget why I was talking to a GM. Probably when they forced me to hand it over so they could reset its scripts. While I had them there I asked about it. There's no way I'd do it. You don't change old items that can never be made again.

Androidpk

I'm surprised it wasn't changed when you handed it over. I want to get some alteration work done on my pair but I'm too worried they'll change them over.

Mogonis

It's not like an ICE item. There's no copyright. I've had the krodera one altered three or four times, and the golvern altered once.

OP, you should offer a blowjob or money to get it reverted. Not even kidding.

Androidpk

Wyrom said I'd have to ask before handing it over. I might have luck with the golvern but if they worked on the adamantine alloy I'm thinking they'd revert it back to its inspection metal at least.

Mogonis
05-17-2013, 10:24 PM
I never asked a merchant before handing it over, and no one ever mentioned it. I suppose if they're actually paying attention they might mess with the inspect material. That's a whole different arena. I once had a shield with krodera in its description but it inspected as wood. They couldn't find any record of it ever being made of krodera, so they wouldn't change the inspect material.

When you swing your falchions and do you also talk in a fake asian accent and wear a ninja mask?

No. I'm not a Japanophile (is this a thing?). Just happen to like katanas in a MUD called GemStone IV. I've had one of my katanas for over a decade.

Which you stated once, and I respect your preference for falchion based OHEs. You've stuck around griefing my thread asking for an ensorc regardless.

Why not just buy one of the thousand katanas out there instead of killing an endangered species?

This katana was converted in 2004. At the time, there were no high enchant real katanas, just altered falchions. There were plenty of high enchant falchions on the market. I converted three falchions into true katanas, and sold 2 of them for more than the falchions cost me.

9 years later, people who care about item descriptions have their panties in a bunch about it. True story. I might write them a lich mod to make any falchion appear to be a katana so they can be at peace.

Daiyon

That's a little different. I can understand doing it in 2004, but id be kicking myself right now.

Besides, mechanically speaking, if you have the TP for both THW and OHE, a katana is just as good as a falchion. You need to blow a few CM too on the damage type preference cm, unless you like slash crits :).

I just saw this in a log from 4/11/2004. Apparently I owned or borrowed a dark steel katana. Is this the same one? I do remember when I was a locksmith (must've been when skill migration was still instant), but I don't have any recollection of a dark steel katana in my possession. I must've given or sold it back because I was poor.

In the hooded greatcloak you see a pearl-etched thin alum lockpick, a bone-handled dark invar lockpick, a cerulean-hued wavy glaes lockpick, a copper lockpick, a jagged longsword, a steel lockpick, a veniom bound lynx pelt wrist scabbard, a dark steel katana, a kelyn-tipped myklian scale lockpick, a large sack, a small glowing vial, a silver-edged deep black cloak, a yellow zircon, a plain black jacket, a snarling puma mask, a scuffed brown dagger sheath, a copper lockpick, a green brocade locksmith's toolkit, a steel lockpick, a veniom-etched fillet knife, a fuzzy puma fur blanket, a sapphire brushed rolaren lockpick, a steel lockpick, a steel lockpick, a copper lockpick, a silver-veined dark golvern lockpick, a darkened silver krodera katana and a copper lockpick.

You remove a dark reinforced-steel katana etched with blood red Elven runes from in your hooded greatcloak.

I think my buddy Vyst owned it. I must've been borrowing it.
