The kid has a point, despite his obvious attitude problem, but it's not a one-way street. A teacher should try to inspire, but students need to try to be inspired as well. You can't teach a brick wall.

Maybe his attitude is a direct result of his teacher's bullshit.

It's just a 1.5 minute video and I realize we can't possibly know everything from this video but shit, going by just the video I think everything the kid is saying is true. The teacher couldn't even be bothered to get out of her chair and all she could manage was "Bye, bye, bye, please leave."
What do I pay taxes for?!

I got through approximately 23 seconds of this and then turned it off. His attitude and the way he was speaking to his teacher, plus his manner of speaking, turned me off so much I couldn't listen anymore.

If he did not get the attitude that he got, if he didn't start getting agitated, his points (which I agree with) would have been received better. He needs to learn that you don't get what you want by throwing a tantrum and storming out.
I feel like a lot of the time packets, worksheets, silent reading, becomes synonymous with education, which I don't agree with.

I wouldn't really say it's storming out when she told him to leave.

As this just popped up on FB too, I watched it again, he says "I can't let this freaking lady go on anymore" or something like that at the beginning, and he raises his voice the most right at the end of the video and opens the door in an angered manner. It seems like they had a disagreement and she said something like "if you don't like it you can leave" and he was like "Yeah bitch I AM gonna leave, but I'm gonna make a point first"

So she said "Shut up or get out" so he gets out then she kept saying "Get out", "leave" but he was the one throwing a tantrum and storming out?
I must disagree.
Seriously, who does that teacher think she is? A 911 operator?

From what he says at the very beginning it sounds like this whole thing is in response to her going off on one of the students for not understanding something.

I'm not at all defending the teacher, a teacher should never tell a student to shut up, its inappropriate, but from her perspective he's disrupting her class.
He has a valid point, and if PK is right and she went off on a student then that is another case. All I was saying is, being the loudest doesn't usually give you the most credibility.

He wasn't black. I know this, not because I watched the video, but because this kid isn't being hailed as a hero that's just trying to fight for his education against white teachers that want to keep him down, only to have him and his teacher invited to the White House for a root beer summit after it was discovered that the teacher belonged to a union.

Actually, the teacher was pretty calm during it all, which is a point in her favor. It's hard to say whether she's a lazy POS and sitting in the chair is evidence of that without knowing more. For all we know, the kid grandstands like this every day and she's just tired of him.

It's certainly possible not to be lazy and sit. I'm usually up and around when I'm teaching classes and I've had two students storm out. One when I told her that if she took out her phone during a test she failed the test and the other when I refused to change rules the College Board set for the sake of her convenience.
I think high stakes testing leads to the "have a review packet" style of teaching but I also know that this generation loves setting up YouTube films that don't have much bearing on reality. Both could be true.

I can't agree with the whole "teachers' unions are teh debil!" at all. For every lazy teacher to whom they give due process, they protect a thousand more good ones from being wage slaves ordered around (even more) by corporate America and from being fired by idiosyncratic principals and school boards. Now, if only they could step up their lobbying and PR so that retarded standards stop being legislated to them by people who know nothing about teaching, everything would be great.

And I quote, "Don't TRY and take credibility for teaching me jack."
I can only surmise that that was an english class and the teacher CLEARLY isn't doing her job if she is allowing him to use language like that.
ETA: Based on that statement alone I'd guess that the kid is just a pompous jackhole whose parents didn't discipline him at home and now he's trying to come off as some cool as shit rebel by yelling at his teacher who's just doing her job.
ETAA: The teacher is losing no matter what she does in this situation in the liberal public we live in today. Sitting in her chair is the best thing she could have done. If she were to get up and yell back, or firmly escort him out of the classroom there would have been an outcry over teachers "abusing" our students just for voicing their opinions.

Ya know... something happened prior to what was taped that prompted people to start recording. From what I've heard, the teacher went off on/about someone for not learning in some way. If you listen to the beginning of the audio, it might make some sense.
Yeah, he said that. Not an indicator the teacher is bad though...
Any teacher who has the galls to say he or she is just in their classroom for a paycheck should of picked another profession.

Clearly, we're getting about 10% of the story. Can empathize with the kid, and can empathize with the teacher.
What kind of idiot school policy allows cell phones in class? It's got to be just soul crushing as a teacher to stand in front of a class of kids who don't want to be there, and aren't even paying attention. When a teacher gets a single kid in the class who seems interested, you can just see their face light up with joy. Maybe this teacher is already jaded and has given up. If so, that's soul crushingly bad for the students.
I'd attribute primary blame to the school policies, to the unions, the parents and to a lesser degree, to the students. It's important to blame others instead of trying to fix things ourselves.

That kid is whiter than snow. lol @ calling him brown.
And the teacher is not only sitting behind her desk...her desk has so much shit on it and around it that it looks like a fucking desk fortress. I can't comment on her actual teaching style because it's not shown in the video, and maybe she doesn't teach sitting behind it but that desk alone makes her appear visibly cut off from her students.
