Hey there Icemule fans,

I've put together a (not so little) summary for those of you following the ongoing storyline in our frozen little town. Enjoy.

---

Prologue - Mischief in Icemule (February/March)

1) Brother Stumblekink's Emporium is robbed and eventually re-opens. The Halfling deputy begins to make inquiries about crime in town.

1) A young trickster known as Hugsy begins to make some friends after being bullied by a group of orphans. He grows rather attached to some of the local adventurers in town and decides to try and make them participate in his favorite pastime, snow fights!

2) A group of orphans beg for wands and silvers in Town Center and outside of Berrytoe's General Store, claiming that they have to collect these to keep the "boss" happy. Hugsy arrives soon after and makes it very clear that he looks down on the orphans for what they are doing. Later on, Berrytoe's shop is cleaned out by a group of bandits. The shop is overhauled and re-opened with new inventory to promote sales and recover from his loses caused by the robbery.

3) Hugsy and his father are robbed outside of the gemshop. Hugsy reports the news to his new-found friends, and explains that the gems he was selling were to buy a cart for him to start working. His father is an employee at the Silvermule Gambling Hall, and they need more income to keep food on the table.

4) The Halfling deputy continues his inquiries in an attempt to gather more information. Oglione, the caretaker of the Liabo Halls in the Icemule Temple, expresses his concern over certain orphans no longer showing up for the meals he has been preparing for them. Hugsy is found skulking around late at night but is hurried back into his house when a scream is heard near the windmill. A group of local heroes, along with the Halfling deputy, find the body of Hugsy's father outside of the windmill, a bloodied note clenched in his hand. The Halfling deputy attempts to decipher the note, but it is mostly illegible. Upon learning about the death of Hugsy's father, the adventurers rush back to his house only to find that it has been ransacked by thieves. Hugsy is nowhere to be found but eventually turns up dead in the Temple of Hope where he decided to run when the bandits attacked. A thug attempts to hold his body for ransom, but it captured by the group of locals. Before the thug can give them too much information, he is killed by a blackguard who sneaks off after silencing the thug. Hugsy is revived in the local temple, only to find that both of his parents have been murdered.

5) White Haven is attacked by a group of bandits during one of their meetings, using a peculiar sleeping gas to knock most of the occupants unconscious. It is believed that they intended to rob the house.

6) Nihala Wineberry, Mayor of Icemule Trace, publicly addresses concerns about the rise in crime. The fate of the infamous giantess known as Hidulah is also discussed. During the town meeting, Warden Kubilew of Icewall Penitentiary makes an appearance and expresses his discontent with the lack of effort Nihala is making in these matters. A decision is reached on how to handle the overflowing prison population.

7) Sorena's Emporium is robbed late one evening, cleaned out by a group of thieves. It is believed that the same group is commiting the robberies in town, and that someone is organizing them. The alchemist re-opens after gaining support from the local Sorcerer and Wizard guilds.

Chapter 1 - The Icewall Bandits (April)

1) Ice trolls attack outside of the west gate, and there are some clues that they were tipped off by a group of local thieves as to when the guard was going on his breaks and when the town was less prepared for such an assault. Locals grow worried by this news.

2) Local heroes track down evidence of the bandit threat in town, but do not manage to get any hard evidence of where they are operating. A pair of orphans are killed in the battle with the bandits, and eventually they meet up with Hugsy, who shows them where a group of bandits are hiding in the Snow Fort. The bandits are dispatched, along with one that appears to have been high in rank, but not much else is learned.

3) A group of thieves launch an attack on North Road, attempting to pillage the houses there. Local heroes drive them back and eventually discover that Warden Kubilew is having prisoners dig in the Old Icemule Ruins beyond the North Gate. A new tunnel has appeared where the prisoners are digging, blocked by an iron gate. Warden Kubilew arrives while local heroes attempt to coax information out of the prisoners and explains that he is expanding the prison into the ruins. After some harsh words, the Warden tosses one of the local heroes in the stocks and tosses rotten fruit at them for awhile before growing bored and wandering off.

4) A prisoner has escaped from Icewall Penitentiary, and after discussing the matter with prisoners working in the ruins, local heroes learn that his name is Braeldh. A "wanted" poster is placed outside of Clovertooth Hall, offering a small reward for information leading to his capture.

5) Local heroes are engaged by a group of bandits near the West Gate and learn that they have successfully killed the "boss" who was forcing the orphans around town to steal and beg. Some of the locals attempt to speak with prisoners again in the Old Icemule Ruins, but are discovered by one of the Warden's sentries. After bribing the sentry with several mugs of honey beer, he begins to grow disinterested and snores while leaning on his voulge. The local heroes take the opportunity to open the gate and sneak into the tunnel, but an alarm is sounded and they are forced to retreat back into town.

6) Local fletcher, Xenophon, is forced to close up his shop due to a shortage of supplies. A merchant was suppose to deliver a shipment of wood to his shop but never arrived. Local heroes find the body of a merchant and his covered wooden sleigh being looted by bandits, but after fighting them off they discover that the sleigh has already been picked over. The merchant's body mysteriously disappears, along with all evidence of the sleigh ever being there.

7) A body is discovered outside of Honeybeer Inn. Local heroes grow suspicious when the Halfling deputy and Warden Kubilew get into an argument about the nature of the murder. Kubilew claims that the fugitive, Braeldh, must have committed this crime, but the Halfling deputy inspects the corpse and discovers that it has been long dead and has prior wounds. The body is taken by local lawmen soon after.

8) Nihala Wineberry addresses the town once again in an attempt to learn more about what is going on in Icemule Trace. The Halfling deputy and Warden Kubilew continue to argue over the nature of the victim found outside of Honeybeer Inn. Nihala collects donations to help Xenophon re-open his shop. The halfling fletcher has yet to be seen in town since he wandered into Snowflake Vale to forage for supplies on his own.

During the most recent town meeting, our very own Nihala Wineberry was abducted and has gone missing after faulting Warden Kubilew for the recent troubles in town and the prison break. The Warden retorted with accusations of his own, claiming that the Mayor and her council were not properly funding the penitentiary and the lack of guards was actually their fault.

Warden Kubilew dashed off to attend to some "personal" business and left several citizens enraged and suspicious that he was the cause of this incident. Priest Lazoar, a caretaker of the Icemule temple and one of those who council the mayor in political matters made it clear that he would make sure the town was not left without leadership during the crisis. Several members of the community declared that the Warden was organizing a group of cutthroats and intended to take the town by force.

Prior to the prison break, the Warden had asked for funding to expand Icewall Penitentiary into the ruins of the old town. After being approved, many were suspicious of his motives and further investigation has revealed that this new area actually appears to be a training facility for thieves and brigands. Brave heroes forced their way into the new grounds and found themselves face-to-face with the former menace known as Hidulah. The child-like giantess was in the company of monstrous fire cats and she was angered by those who had attacked her pets. In her rage, she threw her arms upwards and caused the very cavern to shake and tremble. One hero managed to stop her from causing further harm, but her body quickly turned to ash and vanished into thin air.

The town's council have declared the thieves and bandits within this training area as renegades and outlaws, and any amount of force neccesary may be used to keep them from causing harm to the citizens and visitors of Icemule Trace.

Warden Kubilew was last seen sneaking out of town through the west gate, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

I think I may have missed an update or two.
