I was thinking of starting a rogue...I've never done one that got past level 2, so I figured I'd ask those of you who are more knowledgable for advice. So...advise away.

All depends on what you want your rogue to do... cast spells? Have redux? Be a great locksmith? Be a great hunter? Be a 'jack of all trades'?

One of the great things about rogues is the different paths you can take.

One thing is for certain though...

Double in Picking Pockets. :smug:

lol...I was thinking a redux/hunting rogue.

But...but...giants suck. Can't I be a human? Pretty please?

Get Kranar to tell you why humans are the best...

Then I would:

Double in armor/shield/CM/weapon/hiding/PT/Ambush/brawling

Single in perception

Then stick in as much climbing/swimming/MO/etc you can for redux.

Stay away from things like MIU/Scrolls/Spells/Disarming/Picking/Mana Share/Etc.. that rob you of precious TPs.

I would also (since you will be reallocating anyways to get into GS4) put higher numbers in physical stats to give you the most PTPs.

Tsoran's thing doesn't have hiding as a training thing...that going to be around for GSIV, or are they combining it with ambush, or did Tsoran make a mistake?

I suck at the whole making characters thing...how would a hunting rogue go?

Well, I figured out my redux rogue...gonna get my first redux at 20 atleast, and it grows from there. I've got a shit load of extra MPs, because I don't use a bunch of them, and I'll use them to train in as many combat skills as I can.

I'm also going to be able to pick pockets :)

Well considering you have a Month to powerhunt before GS4 comes live (Hopefully) I'd just roll up a Giant Rogue focused primarily ALL on Physical Combat..I wouldn't bother with spells and stuff simply for the fact when GS4 goes live, you'll have to reallocate everything again, then that's the time when you can decide what you plan on being as a rogue.

Personally I'm going 2x ranged and edged among other things come GS4.

Well, you won't be able to switch races, and I'm rerolling a current character...so I'll stay human. No spells for me, that'd absolutely kill redux. I'm not sure how long I've got though...depends on when the Ice Mage quest ends, I guess. My character's involved intimately, and it COULD be because he's a cleric (the other two that got pendants are clerics too...so we're not sure)...I wouldn't want to screw anything up because I got bored being a cleric.

Or...you could buy a Human rogue with 71% redux. <cough cough>

Artha

Yeah...I could...can I 'borrow' 800 dollars?

My rogue is kind of a jack of all trades but leaning towards hunting right now. Here he is at 25:

Name: Pwnz Edaarin Race: Giant Profession: Rogue (not shown)
Gender: Male Age: 50 Expr: 770461 Level: 25
Currently Stat Bonus
Constitution (CO): 60 .... 15
Dexterity (DE): 72 .... 6
Discipline (DI): 73 .... 11
Logic (LO): 78 .... 14
Intelligence (IN): 78 .... 9
Strength (ST): 77 .... 28
Reflexes (RE): 72 .... 6
Charisma (CH): 45 .... 3
Wisdom (WI): 88 .... 19
Aura (AU): 97 .... 18
Mana: 70 Silver: 0

Pwnz (at level 25), your skill bonuses and ranks are:
Skill Bonus Rank
-------------------------------------------------------------
Armor Use : 152 [52]
Shield Use : 108 [26]
Combat Maneuvers : 108 [26]
Blunt Weapons : 152 [52]
Climbing : 25 [5]
Swimming : 20 [4]
Disarm Traps : 152 [52]
Pick Locks : 152 [52]
Stalking & Hiding : 178 [78]
Perception : 152 [52]
Ambush : 152 [52]
Physical Training : 105 [25]
Picking Pockets : 152 [52]
Mental Training Points : 9

I placed him for growth so you could probably put the physical numbers higher, drop the picking skills and you should be able to get your 2x CM and other killing skills. I just like being able to open the boxes I get. When GS4 comes around I've got a plan that will be vastly different than this one right now but for today it works good for me.

One thing I know is I'm not training in PP. Those 3/0 are just way to precious.

Anyicor Boyee (at level 13), your skill bonuses and ranks are:
Skill Bonus Rank
-------------------------------------------------------------

Scroll Reading : 10 [2]
Ambush : 114 [28]
Physical Training : 66 [14]
Picking Pockets : 114 [28]
Mental Training Points : 1

I did scroll readin just to try it out. And I could do it every level if I wanted to or just save the points. My rogue Swings an AS of 222 and has a ds in stance offense with warding and defending 95. I should get good enough redux to not have to worry about a high defense. Also I have a set of Haubrek I will be waring once I get to Warfies or Golems depending on RT.

But I am very pleased with how I turned out. I figure there is no reason to waste points on picking/disarming since there are tons of rogues up in the tower who will be happy to do it for 100 coins. Not to mention, I am always pleased when I can party hunt with people in minotaurs.(lv29) Although I have hunted Dark Orcs since I have been 8.

And to your comment about picking pockets...your not wasting points only trainings if yah dont train in them. Very easy way to get silver...Take it from me who has had a couple of rogues. I start stealing around 18. I get tons of silver while unfrying especially on Rivers Rest and Solhaven.

See, the thing is, I don't make nearly enough for it to really matter. It might add up to 100k, 200k a month (or a week, if I don't do anything but steal while I rest). I'd rather have invested that 3/0 (210/0 at my level) into 15 ranks of MO, or picked up 15 ranks of scroll use or something

One thing I notice people doing is placing stats for growth. Do what you like, but you have to gain levels for stats to grow, and placing them all for growth won't get you anywhere, it would be a long hard life for you. I usually only place the stats I know I need most high.

Hiding is there. That's not changing.

Yeah, I found it.

edit: Here's my rogue atm, stats are placed for quickest level growth, because I want to get into the guild asap. He's a great hunter, too :)

Only thing I don't like is the AU for spirit that's just because I don't like being a slave to Voln. Other than that looks like a fun rogue to hunt.

Woohoo, rogues rule. I have five of em myself ranging from archer, to pure picker to magic to war rogue. I find they are the most diverse profession in regards to possible training plans, easy to hunt and play, and the rogue guild community just rocks. GO ROGUES.

Hey Artha, I'd suggest working scroll and MIU in there, somewhere. 25 ranks overall is all that should ever be needed (some even consider it overkill). Then there is other nice skills like First Aid, Trading, even Mana Share (pointless come GS4 but hey...). Rogues excell in having access to the most skills of any profession. Abuse this. If you wanted to just 2x all the combat skills, why not just reroll as a warrior?

Edaarin

When I autoconverted in the test game, I got 35 mana and 30 ranks of both elemental mana control and spirit mana control. What the hell am I gonna do with that?

StrayRogue

Um, reallocate?

The only goal atm is to get as high as I can, as fast as I can before GSIV...I'll try to spread him out a bit for GSIV.

Test the skill migrator, and you won't even have to reallocate.

Actually, thats not 100% true. If I remember right (I did some mucking around with it a while back..) if you do not get more then 1 spell every ten levels..it bascily does no change to redux.
