US Congressman Porter Goss, nominated to be the new director of the CIA,
may be talking himself out of the job, according to film-maker Michael
Moore.

Moore, who directed the film Fahrenheit 9/11, has released an interview
with Mr Goss in which he says he lacks the qualifications for the top
spy post.

"I couldn't get a job with CIA today. I am not qualified," Mr Goss told
Moore's production company in March.

The White House has dismissed the interview as "ridiculous hearsay".

The interview did not make it into the final edit of the film, which
criticises President George W Bush's policy on Iraq.

But following Mr Goss's nomination by the president, Moore has released
the transcript and video excerpt on his website.

"I don't have the language skills. I, you know, my language skills were
romance languages and stuff. We're looking for Arabists today. I don't
have the cultural background probably," Mr Goss says on the video.

"And I certainly don't have the technical skills, as my children remind
me every day: 'Dad, you got to get better on your computer.'

"So, the things that you need to have, I don't have."

Bush's choice

Mr Goss, 65, is a former officer with US army intelligence and the CIA.

He represents a Florida district and has served in Congress since 1989.

Announcing the appointment on Tuesday, Mr Bush said Mr Goss was the
"right man" to head the agency.

"Porter Goss is a leader with strong experience in intelligence and in
fighting against terrorism," he said.

Mr Goss is due to replace former director George Tenet, who stood down,
citing personal reasons, before the commission investigating the 11
September 2001 attacks issued its report.

The bi-partisan panel blamed intelligence bodies, including the CIA, for
failing to predict or avert the hijackings.

lol Michael Moore is far from objective. I read the very small excerpt from the interview. It looks like Porter Goss was taking about his ability to be a field operative. The snippet of the interview is so small it looks like Moore is taking things out of context again. Democrats claim they care about the nation but here they are again playing partisan politics when they should be concerned with security in this case.

Porter Goss qualifications for The Director of the CIA

Former Army Intelligence Officer
Former CIA clandestine affairs officer
Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
He also serves on the House Rules Committee, which is responsible for how legislation is presented on the Floor, and the new Select Committee for Homeland Security
Served years as a US Congressman

Seems a pretty solid choice to me

I wonder who would be the Democrats choice Michael Moore, Bill Maher?

Head of the CIA should be above partisan politics.

Period.

This administration is so transparent. How can this have happened in the year 2000? Who the fuck is fooling who anymore?

I partially blame the Clinton years for such astounding... no, I was going to say apathy, but thats not good enough. Astounding denial?

To me it seems like Bush picks a guy that Moore doesn't like, and figures if the Democrats object to the new CIA pick it makes them look bad, because they will seem weak on security, and like they are trying to just delay things.

Cynical, maybe..but I can't imagine Bush doing it any other way.

I'm sure Moore's explict terminology of "top spy" directly translates to the director of the CIA.

Lets grow up a little, please.

I honestly don't believe Dubya is or ever has been calling the shots.

Not to echo someone's earlier post, so I will do it sarcastically.

Oh, really? I would have never fucking guessed. So why this inordinate hatred for a man who isnt even calling the shots? Why hate the puppet when you can hate the puppetmaster? Or are you simply taking out your anger on the nearest political, non arch liberal, object?

To stay on topic:

"Michael Moore defends headline"

So, again more proof that Mr. Moore is a lying douche who ignorant people (and, unfortunately, a few intelligent ones unable to see past their own ideology) kneel and pray to now that they have given up on Jesus and/or Al Franken.

Me too. Rarely the case under either party, however.
