Is coming for a visit.

Bastard.

And after all the rain left by Bonnie, flooding might be a huge problem. I don't recall two such storm systems happening so close together before.

Won't worry PB, it's coming to Jacksonville on Saturday..It's really going to suck...

Except I'll be on vacation 1500 miles away.

If you live in Fla or the east coast you know August is hurricane season. Just be glad you don't live in Bangladesh, have you seen the flooding there this summer?

Parkbandit
08-12-2004, 04:07 PM
Tampa didn't get anything from Bonnie, but we are already 15" ahead of our normal rainfall for the summer season. The way Charlie is going, it looks like it will skirt the western side of St. Petersburg/Clearwater.. which means the counter-clockwise rotation of the storm will push all the water into the bay.

Eek.

I'm glad I took my Carolina vacation in July this year. Being evacuated from vacation sucks ass.

Well I guess the end of Bonnie is hitting here now. I never saw so many cars stuck on the roads before... and somehow my little Neon made it through all the places where there was 6" of water on the roads. Delaware's not supposed to have flooding like this!

Our restaurant sits about 2 blocks from the bay, so we spent the afternoon boarding up and sandbagging. Now I'm going to sink the patio furniture in the pool, board our sliding glass doors and give thanks for the ONLY good thing about flat roofs, they don't blow off easily. Even though we are only a block from the bay our house sits really high so we are riding it out. This is first storm to hit the Tampa Bay area head on since the 20's, I"ve been though many near misses, but I'm scared on this one.

Ish. Good luck, Myshel. Let's hope Charlie leaves you high and dry.

how do you spell "charley" wrong when it's like, in size 15 font on that picture?

How do you not know that Angelfire doesn't let you direct link images?

Hee! It's easy. My mother has a cat named "Charlie"! :P

Heh. Pinellas Park here. I really hope the eye will define itself and pass over St. Pete/Pinellas Park, it'd be amazing to see.

08-12-2004, 07:43 PM
I live on the coast. I'm not worried about this one at all. Just a bit of rain and wind. *YAWN*

So now I gotta call my cousin to see if she's ok. My family lives in that area. :(

Zentoph

That sucks.. Know what part specifically? If she's not in a 'high risk zone' area, which is high flooding, then she'll probably be fine unless a tornado hits or lives in a wooden house.

So glad I'm not on the coast.

08-12-2004, 11:14 PM
I just got to Boca Raton today, isn't it supposed to hit the real, west westly west-like coast of Florida, please?

I heard on the radio that no two storms have hit so close to each other since 1908 or some shit.

Anyways... Bonnie left us some pretty good storms that left like 2 feet of water in our IT building's basement. This one looks like it might affect our weather here also.

So how are people doing down there? I see from the radar that south Florida is covered by some heavy storms even if not yet by the actual hurricane. Keep us updated (assuming you have power and aren't evacuated, of course).

Just really cloudy skies and the feeling that you're in a ghost town if you drive by where businesses are. Although you can't see it, I'm in Pinellas County, which is covered by the third forecast location of Charley. I also believe it's a category four now.. It's expected to hit sometime this evening.

Also, you can't really tell right now if it just wobbled or not, but it looks to be turning slightly east so it will likely push the water away from Tampa Bay, contrary to what was forecasted before.

Hurricane Charley now a Category 4 storm off Florida, with 145 mph winds.

Parkbandit

It's going to completely miss the Tampabay area.

Virginia will be getting its fair share of the storms in a couple days, more then we are getting now.

Artha

Yeah, it's supposed to rain really hard tomorrow.

killjoymp

It was supposed to rain bad today

Zentoph
08-13-2004, 03:38 PM
It's not going to miss it at all. All of the counties in the Tampa Bay area will feel everything from a hurricane, excluding storm surge. This includes hurricane force winds and flooding. Just because the eye and the strongest winds of the hurricane won't directly hit tampa, doesn't mean it's okay to stop being safe about it.

08-13-2004, 03:46 PM
I was in Del Ray during Andrew, and now I'm on the east coast of FL (just got back from some tanning) in Boca Raton. Winds here are mild and there are peeks of sunshine.

Last I heard on the news is the last time Tampa got hit by a hurricane was a really, really long time ago.

I hope my anol friends are okay :grouphug:

Zentoph
08-13-2004, 03:51 PM
We've been effected by them, just not directly hit by them. Nothing ever as close as this since 1920.

08-13-2004, 03:55 PM
I hate how CNN plays this evil chord of music when they advertise the hurricane.

Zentoph
08-13-2004, 07:05 PM
I'm convinced that someone placed a tropcial storm/hurricane ward over Pinellas County. Every year these things are forecasted right through us but swerve off completely. Worse I got was sprinkling, not even rain.

Virginia is going to get hit?

Boo.

I've never experienced a hurricane, and I'm deathly afraid of storms. This will be amusing. So much for getting shit done tomorrow... Good thing I saved my laundry to do.

woooooo! I just talked to my cousin who lives in St. Pete's. She's fine, thank God! She said it just passed by. But, I guess there's still another warning?

Zentoph
08-14-2004, 12:27 AM
Bonnie effected us more then Charley did.. yesterday we actually got rained on. The only warning I can think of for Pinellas County was the curfew they had out to prevent looting but that's been lifted.

Myshel
08-14-2004, 09:43 PM
I'm fine, no worries until the next one due next week.. :S The south of us got it really really bad. The damage and loss of life is terrible. It was suppose to go right over the top of us, and I'm thanking God it didn't, jogged to the south of us. We lost electricity for 10 hours but no damage. Thanks for all the prayers sent our way.:grouphug:

So I'm in Orlando and my power just came on earlier today, and this was the first time I could make it to post. The storm overturned a 20 foot tree in my front yard, but other than that did no real damage to my house. I did go driving after the storm passed to visit some friends and such. Street lights were out everywhere and I had to take different paths a few times to get around downed trees. It was crazy, but we had a hurricane party at my house and it was fun times too.

HarmNone

Glad you and your family are well, Disrupture. Sorry about the tree, but very happy that nobody was hurt. :)
