Buying: Translucent Vultite Alloy Quarter Staff

Title pretty much says it all, looking to buy one of those masterfully crit weighted staffs (or something similar), send me a U2U.

Crit weighting's nice. Quarterstaff DFs are not.

Quarterstaff DFs:

robes: .45
leather: .325
scale: .35
chain: .175
plate: .1

That means if you have an end roll a 200 against plate, you'll do 10 raw damage.

I have no plans to use it against plate, or chain unless the critter has a really low DS.


Advantage of a quarter staff: Easy to aim compared to any other 2 hander.

But mostly, staffs only do crush damage. Rank 5 crush damage to the head is always a death shot. I ambush with my claidhmore a lot and I'll roll like a 250-300 on some creatures head and not kill it because my rank 9 slash gets reduced to a rank 5 and rank 5 slash damage does not kill. Very annoying, especially on giants because they shake off the stun that it does.

Unless you have the skill to hit an eye with a two handed weapon (which is exceedingly hard) these staffs are quite useful.

You realize that Giants have naturally thick armor?

Oh and as far as I know, staffs are no easier or harder to aim than any other two-hander. From my own research, the weapon sizes are large, medium and small. Quaterstaff fits into large.

I realize that, chain class I believe.

At least in my (anecdotal) experiance between my greatsword and my quarter staff, I can hit the head much easier with the quarter staff.

The only reason to use the quarterstaffs as evidenced by Megaladon many years ago is if you have at least 4 or 5 focused swings mstriking.

I know you're a ranger...do you 1x or 2x in ambush? I'm 2xed, and at 30 I've got no problem hitting most of the time with a battle axe.

Statistically it's a small sample size but the percentages matched up exactly, I guess aiming would be the same. I was always under the impression that each weapon had a seperate aiming modifiers.

I'm 1x and... as you can see, not very effective with head shots. I'm better with leg shots, I normally just go for the leg and then head after that, although I'd like to be able to go straight for the head.


edit: I'm also 1x perception, which I think has a lot to do with it.

Changchuan uses this almost exclusively. It's really a pretty good weapon once you get to higher levels since so few things are in more than brig.
