I'm considering rolling up a dwarf rogue, but am worried about being short as it relates to one-shotting critters with a dagger to the eye or an axe to the head. Am I going to be needing to leg everything first, or just some creatures? Could anyone list some creatures that a human or half-elf could head/eyeshot immediately but that a dwarf would need to leg first?

Played a dwarf ambusher, gotta say I HATED the fact that 75% of shit needed to be legged first.

There are tons of tall creatures out there and a lot of smaller ones (snow crones come to mind). It won't matter what race you are once they're 20-30 feet tall as some descriptions peg them. If memory serves, wall guardians which are "tall halflings" are giant-class with respect to AIM.

Leg/head ambushing is viable until cap but it's a cakewalk and totally effective for a good 50 levels. If you don't like it at some point, go ranged. I haven't been sword/board since vanish was released but I can only imagine how much better it is.

So it appears that a human (and presumably most of the other normal sized races) cannot hit the head on illoke, giants, titans or anything of that nature. They can hit the head on trolls (tested hill, forest and ice) with an axe or longsword, but not a short sword or dagger, and can hit the head on normal-sized critters with all weapons.

I assume with a dwarf the trolls would need to be legged first with most weapons, but what about all the human-sized creatures? Dark shamblers, orcs, minotaurs, ash hags, fire mages etc... Anyone know any specific creatures where a medium-sized race can open with a headshot but a dwarf needs to leg first?

There's no such list. Just appraise the creatures and find out.

Appreciate the info. I actually missed your first post somehow. The plan was always to be ranged and OHE, so should always have options. Sometimes I get carried away trying to figure out everything in advance when contemplating a new build.

Anyway, looks like I'll have enough points to fit in the following training:

2x OHE, 1x shield, 2x dodge, 2x ranged, 1x CM, 2x ambush, 2x perception, 2x hide, 2x PF, 1x first aid, 1x survival. Leaves me enough for 5 ranks of HP for CoL, 24 ranks of MIU, climb/swim as needed, and chain armor by late 30s, aug chain by late 40s and MBP by 60.

What say you all? Any input is appreciated.
