Just saw the Hall of Fame game, and I'm already getting pumped up for a new season.

Anyone got some predictions, sleepers, or general shit-talking to throw out? Here's mine, and I'll accept it if I'm wrong.

The Jags go 3-1 in the preseason, and get a wild card to slide into the playoffs.

Let the predictions begin.

Bears go 10 - 6 and win the NFC North.

I re-post that quote of ThisOtherKingdom's around Late December and everyone here gets a good laugh. :D

Eagles win East, Packers win North, Falcons win South, Seahawks win West.

I think the wild card will be between Carolina, and my surprise pick, the Lions.

Edited to add - Actually I don't know if lions will be in wild card contention, but I think they'll finish second in the NFC North and will surprise a lot of people.

For a second I thought 'he is from Canada, maybe they don't cover it as closely there' but I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

Honestly I feel bad for dolphins fans. You have one of the best RBs and a really good receiver one week, and the next week you have nothing.

Patriots 3 Sbs in 4 years. Not many champions get significantly better, but they did.

All I know about football is... it sucks to be a Vikings fan when everyone else is a Redskins fan.

PS, I really could give a damn about football, but the Vikings are in my blood, and I don't feel like being disowned...

Hurray, I can finally take my mind off the Mets (who are biding their time, thanks for asking) with Giants games!! And if Hollywood has taught me anything, the team that's captained by the washed-up veteran and untested phenom always wins! Yay!

How do folks see the individual divisions going? Since I'm an AFL South guy, here's what I think will happen.

Colts 12-4
Jags 10-6
Titans 7-9
Texans 5-11

By all means, I will be wrong, but it's fun to think about already.

Cowboys > Eagles.

Yes, they are greater than the Eagles in terms of signing players who do coke regularly.

Other then that... sorry :cool2:

Bengals take their division, Steelers take last. And no I'm not joking around.

I'm going to have to agree with Drinin.....I think the Bungles are on their way up, I don't know if they win the division, but they will make people blink.

As long as Palmer doesn't fuck up, I think we've got a good shot. The browns and the steelers won't be shit. The ravens . . . i'm not sure about.

The Cowboys have been "watching out" for the Redskins for the past 12 or so years.

And they kicked Redskin ass last year. It will be fun to watch them square off this year. Don't they have an early Monday Night game this season?

Ravens are going to do ultra shitty this year. Why, you ask? Mainly, cause Ray Lewis is on the cover of Madden 2005. We ALL know what that means.. ::dramatic evil organ music::

The Ravens are doomed to a sub-par season, due to the Madden curse. I dunno bout the Raiders making it either, that's a tough call. I definately agree this is going to be a good year for the Seahawks. I'll post my predictions when I get off work.

Hulkein

Vikings won't make it to a Super Bowl. Their defense kills them, always.

I do like the Seahawks pick though, they're going to be very good. With a great offense and an improving defense under Ray Rhoades, they'll be very successful this year.

Vikings defense is vastly improved. They got Antoine Winfield through free agency, Kevin Williams is no longer a rookie and he's going to be a stud, Chris Hovan should have a bounce back year and Kenechi Udeze was a great late 1st round draft pick. They are going to be a very good team.

Stunseed
08-12-2004, 04:00 PM
Udeze was a great addition, they'd said he had a great showing before the draft.

Arizona making the playoffs is a stretch, but with a little confidence they could make it to .500.....Not in my opinion, though.

Hulkein
08-12-2004, 04:12 PM
Sorry, an above average addition at CB and an unproven draft pick don't convince me their defense will be enough improved to get them far into thepPlayoffs, let alone past GB in their own division.

Zanagodly
08-12-2004, 04:18 PM
Antoine Winfield is the best tackling corner in the NFL. He also has very above average coverage skills. Hovan had an AWFUL year last year, and I don't think that will continue. Udeze is unproven obviously but he was predicted to be a top 10 pick until the week leading up to the draft there was a concern he had a muscle tear somewhere on his upperbody, I don't recall the exact muscle. Green Bay while they might have a great offensive line, emerging receivers and a stud RB, they also have a lot of questions in their secondary.

Hulkein
08-12-2004, 04:32 PM
I watched Winfield all the time, I'm a Bills fan too. He's a good player, never said he wasn't. Unfortunately he's a CB and one defensive back won't change a defense. Especially not one who doesn't get interceptions.

Hovan didn't have an off year, he was just so over-hyped. His high in tackles for his career is an average 41 (Which came in 2000, his rookie year. Other than that he's in the 30s every year) and his high for sacks is 6.

Last year he got double teamed, that's what happens when you're hyped as much as he is. He got doubled and couldn't do anything.

Zanagodly
08-12-2004, 04:38 PM
Well not many defensive tackles get a lot of sacks period, and even less so when they are double teamed. With Kevin Williams moving back to DT permanently it should free Hovan up from some doubles. He did have a bad year last year, and if you want to claim its due to double teams, I won't argue as I only saw a few Viking games. However to say this defense isn't improved is not true. They already have Corey Chavous in their secondary who is one of the best ball hawks in football. Winfield will go a long way in suring up this defensive unity. EJ Henderson has a year under his belt and should be very productive as the middle linebacker.
