I don't get this whole lockpick business. I have a handful of lockpicks that all sing as superb, but when I hand them to a rogue, he comes up with a variety of abilities. What does superb mean? Is it different than the intricate level of appraise? Here are some of the appraisals he got with superb lockpicks.

It seems to have an incredible level of precision and is very strong. As far as you can tell, the lockpick has never been repaired. You could probably handle an intricate lock pretty easily with it

It seems to have an unsurpassed level of precision and has below average strength. As far as you can tell, the lockpick has never been repaired. You could probably handle an amazingly well-crafted lock pretty easily with it, once it's repaired

It seems to have an excellent level of precision and is astonishingly strong. As far as you can tell, the lockpick has never been repaired. You could probably handle a fairly complicated lock pretty easily with it

It seems to have an unsurpassed level of precision and is incredibly strong. As far as you can tell, the hairpin has never been repaired. You could probably handle an amazingly well-crafted lock pretty easily with it

It seems to have an incredible level of precision and is incredibly strong. Judging by the tip, the lockpick has been repaired about 1 times. You could probably handle an intricate lock pretty easily with it, once it's repaired

I realize that repair might play into this, but those were all sung as superb, so what does this really tell me?

So basically when a Bard tells you it's a Superb lockpick, they only know that it is Alum level or better?

Kind of like a Bard can tell you that armor is crit padded, but they can't tell how much padding?

Look at the lockpicks KP article and LM APPRAISE HELP.

As you can see, loresongs give some information, but very little. LM APPRAISE gives complete information but accuracy of the read is dependent upon LM ranks. That's really all there is.

Bards are useless for checking lockpick quality.
