Anyone have any predictions for the quarter-finals? Match-ups you'd like to see?

I'm hoping Barca can pull off a miracle vs. Milan tomorrow but I'm not optimistic.

I don't know much about soccer, but Barcelona is an underdog? I always thought they were the shit. With Messi and all...

My soccer life has been horrible this year. We got together a massive Everton NYC group after last season and I've spent so much time watching this trainwreck of a year.

The CL is pretty much all I have left. I love watching Barcelona but I can't bring myself to actually root for them, it feels like rooting for the Yankees. I'm pulling for Inter or Juve.

They're playing the second leg of a 2-game aggregate and they're down 2-0. They've got hit hard recently with injuries and general malaise from beating every team in La Liga 6-0 every week.

Could be worse. You could be forced to root for Man U.

I'll be pulling for Milan tomorrow. Gotta root for my future sister-in-law's hometown. Course, that means I'm rooting for a team owned by Berlusconi!

I watched the Barcelona game on Saturday. First soccer game I've watched in a while. Messi is fun to watch

Xavi has had an injured hamstring and they have to win by 3 goals this game. Their coach has been a non-entity, and Milan plays incredibly strong counter-attack, which is a pretty tough match-up for their play style. They definitely aren't favored to win.

I honestly didn't appreciate them completely until I started playing on a team dominated by Vietnamese guys (4-5 of them were about 5'3"). It's an incredible challenge. We could manage 70% ball possession, have 5 times as many shots on goal, and still lose. Short players limit a lot of options. If you're open to trying a new system, it can be a lot of fun but it's still very difficult no matter how talented your players are.

I'm a Barca fan so of course I have to pull for them but I'm not optimistic. I wish I could watch live but work forbids. Paris is kind of hitting it out of the park this tournament.

Step 1 - win Champion's League
Step 2 - catch Chelsea
Step 3 - everyone apologizes to Wenger
Step 4 - group hug, staying as far away from Wilshere as possible because that guy is crazy
Step 5 - gracefully accept congratulations from Van Persie, refrain from mentioning Ewing Theory

Yes, this is a fine plan.

Will someone just explain to me whoTF Galatasaray is? (And I don't really care about anyone still playing in the Champions so I guess I'm just rooting for Barca to lose)

Some Turkish team that has enough money to buy Drogba! That's all that I know really.

Hey speaking of that, are we a little uncomfortable with Africans being sold? I mean, obviously, white slavery - no harm no foul. But it's a little discomfiting going from American-style life-affirming exchanges to "here's some money, give me that big buck over there".

Yeah, I've always found it rather odd how American players become "free ('Murica!) agents" whereas European soccer players are bought and sold.

They had a really poor showing in the first game and Milan just had a couple of major counterattack opportunities. Much better defending this game. They did a great job tracking back runners and just had a classic performance. Keeping Puyol out as a sub until the end was a good move. He's good for coordinating defense but against a counterattack-driven team, you really just need fast defensive wings to stay with the ball until the midfield can track back.

Well, I've got plans tonight.

The question is: In your fantasy are Xavi and Iniesta in the background giving support the whole time or is it all a one-man-show?

DCSL
03-13-2013, 01:44 AM
Xavi's around. As is Villa. He's young and vigorous and has something to prove. Iniesta can watch.

Galatasaray is badass. They used to have the best homefield advantage in all of soccer until the stadium got torn down. The fans were so crazy that opposing team fans wouldn't even go there.

Games are at 14:30 EST today! Barca/PSG is up for grabs (winner advances). Bayern can lose by 1 and advance (Juventus needs to win by 3).

I don't know if anyone watched Dortmund/Málaga yesterday, but the game was pretty insane.

Messi injured his hamstring in the last game with PSG. Great game. With 2 weeks until the first leg of the semifinal, I think he'll be in good shape.

Fixtures for the semifinals are announced on Friday.

After they turned the tables on Milan, I decided that I wouldn't doubt Barca's ability to make a good comeback. But after this match with Bayern, I decided that I'd allow myself to doubt them again.

Dortmund vs. Madrid today at 14:30 EST. Once again, hoping to see Ronaldo rear his head back in an exacerbated sigh as much as possible. And even more importantly, I hope Eliaku gets to watch.

I know at least two other people watched that game. Could have gone either way but I still think that if there was a goal in the first half, Dortmund would have been playing very differently.

Barca/Bayern today. Same time as usual (14:30 EST).
