View Full Version : GM's interpretation
Scott

Alright, I was playing around and arguing with one of my friends, and I said "Person is my B." I was going to say "person is my bitch" but it never came out, I by accidently hit enter and it was just B. All the sudden I got an OOC reminder or whatever. So I reported to see what I got the OOC reminder for:
I cut out the first part which was me arguing about completely calling someone my bitch and she was talking about the definition.
SEND[Andraste] Here it means female dog. Sintik just said "person is my bitch That is completely calling someone a bitch.
>report That's not what came out.... what came out was "Person is my b"
SEND[Andraste] Read my last comment. It's still read by others as meaning it. There is no way you can interpret it to mean anything else.
report How can you warn me for something you interpret?
After that, silence. I mean I meant to call this person my bitch, but I didn't. If I would have called him my bitch, I would understand the warning. I'm just wondering how a GM can say "I think you meant to call him your bitch, so your getting a reminder." (YES, Reminders are counted and kept on record.) What if I wanted to call him my buddy, or something along those lines?

That's just lame. Usually I agree with what Andraste does, but inferring what a word is going to be from just one letter is dumb. It seems like she was specifically watching for something to catch you up on.

Andy is my girl! But I have to agree with Sintik..she cant "remind you" on something like that. BTW, why is she always watching the cul de sac?

08-21-2003, 02:44 PM
Heh, I was there yesterday. I seen about five different mutters and "says" with "--- is my b" or "--_is_my_b."
Did you get the warn before or after everyone started spewing that?
Oh.. About watching him. He was in the cul-de-sac, everyone is always in some type of feud, why not watch there? I'm guessing she was looking for some type of OOC to warn, though. I never fail to see it there.

Fighting and OOC in the cul de sac? Never!

Guess who was the only person to get something from it? Me. I don't mind if a GM watches up on me to catch me slipping, but interpreting what I say to nail me? Give me a break. If I said bitch, fine, I don't care. When I call someone my B, and suddenly andraste says that I meant bitch so....... I did mean bitch, but I didn't say it! At least get me on something valid.....

Andraste's on a power trip. She is ALWAYS on the look out to find the tiniest things to piss off players. Sometimes it's deserved, sometimes not. What I have a problem with is her reasons for doing it. While some people need to feel love and attention to go on, it's other people's hate that seems to be Andraste's fuel.

Oh, I figured she might have give a warning to the others who was doing it to. (Zarvon comes to mind..)

Although you admit yourself that you -meant- to type bitch.. and although it's entirely possible that in the context of the conversation it would've been clear what you meant..
It's still possible that you had intended to type "Person is my best friend"...
and Andraste was WAY off the mark by assuming things.
But then I'm not surprised..Andraste has issues.

No matter what he was going to say she's got no right to assume things. He couldve said, "Hes mah boy" "Hes my baby momma" Theres a million b words out there. And back in that time yeah bitch meant female dog. Soo people are calling people names of animals all the time while insulting. Like cow, pig, monkey, toad kisser. Whatever. So what does its meaning have to do with anything anyway? An insult is an insult.

Nope. Well, maybe not never. :D
I had only one bad experience with Andraste which actually turned into the very reason I came to like her as much as I do. She realized she made an error, pologized quickly and offered me several options in how to make it right. I don't know how much more anyone could ask for.
Anyone who has ongoing problems with her should really step back and try to look at the situation objectively. You may be surprised to find that she has a pretty good reason to be handling things as she is.

This is the first time I've ever had a problem with her. I don't really consider it a big problem, however I don't think it's up to a GM to decide what I "meant" to say....

Person is my buddy
Person is my best friend
Nothing else though.
Just out of curriosity, since when is a 'bitch' ooc? I didn't know that female dogs don't exist in Eilanthia. In fact I'm pretty sure there's a wandering mongrel or some sort of canine wandering around one of the towns. Maybe a [send] of 'watch your langugae' would be appropriate, but a WARN was not appropriate because it is
1. Inferring a comment that was not actually made.
2. In character even if it was made, it was in character.
3. People call me FAR worse over the amunet and get away with it. When calling someone a 'bitch' is worse than calling someone a 'whore', the lands have gone to pot.
Artha
08-22-2003, 04:49 AM
1. He meant it, couldn't have meant anything else (please, buddy and best friend? lol)
2. Perhaps she wanted to give him a private warning, without soaping him?
3. Andraste isn't listening...and you are a whore, so it's ok.

I had no problems with Andraste in GS. I had problems with her in another game. She showed up with a trial account, went to the OOC area and announced that I was also a GM for that game, and named my GM name to a few people.
I was standing there invis as a GM and heard the whole thing - so did the game's Admin.
Because I was "outted" all hell broke loose and I had to step down as a GM (even though I came back immediately under a new persona). She was sitebanned from that game because of her distruptive and destructive action.
I never found out why she did this, but it was definitely malicious and intentional.

I agree... you reap what you sow. You want to roleplay a hooker, but you want people to treat you with respect? Come on now.. you can't have your cake and eat it too.
I think your roleplay is fine.. but to pull it off effectively, you need to simply try and ignore the whore comments if you don't like them.
Do you think I like my character referred to as a rogue or thief? Sometimes at night, I cry quietly in the corner... :sniffle:

Roberta, your memory of the events is pretty interesting. So let me contribute what I know, which I think is a bit more objective and a bit closer to reality.
I was a long-time player of GS3 and grew disgruntled, so I began to spend a lot of time playing this other game that Roberta worked at. Several of us were getting promises of game coin and transfer of characters, levels and all, to come on over so it seemed like a good deal.
I was friends with the person behind Andraste at the time, and invited her to come join those of us who had moved on, and she did.
One night, she entered the OOC area to a witness an ugly scene between six other people against one, who just happened to be another friend. One of those six bullies was telling him that he wasn't wanted there, and that he could leave, because they didn't want his multiaccounting butt hanging out there. The lead bully was just another gamer.
"Andraste" stood there pretty much silent, aside from asking this yeller what their particular role was in the game, asking if they were staff and able to decide who was welcome and who was not. She was pretty much ignored in all the screaming, and never said anything aloud about you, Roberta, or stuff about the game. I know because I came up to see what the heck was going on when she alerted me about the fracas.
Now, what happened after only Andraste can verify, but from what she told me and showed me in logs and email, she was her whispering to the poor sod being pelted and yes she mentioned in whispers to him that people were getting coins and stuff, and that she knew you were a GM there.
Hades, the owner, was apparently listening to the whispers and asked her about them. She replied privately to him, obviously she knows how to report!
She continued to play for another day or so, until she learned that the holier-than thou person had been asked if they knew who (Andraste's real name) was by a GM. That person was also a friend of Andraste's and revealed she was from GS3 and a GM there by the name Andraste.
Now, Andraste was not being disruptive. She didn't walk in and start trouble. She played there for almost a week peacefully until she learned from me that her confidential account information had been shared with a player. (Because the mutual friend asked me why she was being asked who X was.)
"Andraste" was pretty upset, and asked me to ask around and see if anyone knew who had told the person her real name, who had looked up the account information and shared it with a player. I even asked you, Roberta, and you told me you didn't do know, which I told her.
She wrote a letter with her concerns about the lack of confidentiality and asked why information about her account had been shared with a player. She questioned accountability. The response she got was pretty stunning in its lack of concern that there had been a huge breach of personal and private information. She was even told that the GMs were encouraged to tell people they were GMs there, because that would draw more (GS3) people in.
I was just stunned to be honest. I read the email, which she shared with about three or four of us. We all quit the game the next day, because we were also all staff at GS3 and didn't like what had happened.
So, does that ring a bell?
