View Full Version : Stereotypical empaths with stupid feature alters.

You see Lady Angeliqe Empathico.
She appears to be a Sylvankind.
She appears to be young and sprightly and average height. She has soft angelic blue eyes and luminescent dove-white skin. She has silky, golden hair that falls in graceful ringlets about her waist. She has a kind, delicate face, a cute little button nose and a perfect dimple on each cheek. She has a slender curvaceous figure with a little heart-shaped birthmark on her right shoulder

I HATE THESE PEOPLE.

Edited to remove 'stupid' from the title because I really don't know this chick enough to say if she's stupid or not, and I never meant it as a personal crack at her.

You left off her outfit! (wanted to see if it was as sugary)

Also, the fact that that luminescent dove-white skin is most times covered in gaping wounds and blood. Not to mention the missing limbs and scars... I could go on.

I actually have no idea about their race or profession. Most of them I never see. You take the good with the bad. If I hadn't been Adyria's sister then I never would've known Camri (Who was Adyria's daughter). And I would never have Drakam who is such a great person. You just have to ignore the bad seeds.

Hah, I love those characters.

This game takes place in a rugged brutal world where only the strong survive yet 90% of the women characters are 'angellic' and 'dimpled' with 'dove white' skin. LOL. Yeah, ok, that makes a lot of sense.

Also take note of how often you see someone who is 'slightly shorter' or 'short' when looking at male descriptions. Kind of rare.

Why on earth would an empath look so perfect? I mean sure, after a good clean up maybe, but always? Hmm.

At least my two empaths are normal looking..

I disagree with alters, feature or otherwise, that tell (or suggest to) your character how you feel. In this case, I find angelic borderline. I could be argued by both sides.

That apart, I don't see a problem with the rest. Yes, it does depict this perfectly adorable/beautiful/attractive woman (in a stereotypical way, granted) but so what? It might not be to the liking of some, but as long as it is to the liking of the character's player, I don't see what the issue is. There are many stereotypically beautiful women/men in GS and I'm sure everyone understands why. Sometimes it is an indicator of the player's low self-esteem but not always! Certainly not always. I can name many of my friends that play multiple characters where one is admittedly very attractive (in the player's eyes, of course) but others are plain or worse.

As long as the player is happy with the way the character looks and as long as it doesn't force any feeling or opinion upon my character in the process, I say go for it and feel no shame.

Caiylania

I kept scars on caiy til I learned they affected your skills. she had a facial scar for like, 4 months. Never had a feature alter.

but as a side point, the same people who I have heard pick on perfect alters, bash gore encrusted clothing alters for empaths. Can't we all get along????????

hehehehe.

*editting to add: don't know if that makes sense. I'm hella tired. Really should go to bed.

It's just played out Adhara.

Nothing inherently wrong with it. It is just fucking stupid and annoying to see four out of every five women in game supposedly perfect.

Hi my name is AngelWhiteOliveDove the Empath and I just got done slaying 25 foot massive troll kings in an abonden dungeon. You only have to swim through a dank water pit, get sucked through a gap, and land in mud to get there. Then once you're there you just rip their bodies apart then skin their still bleeding corpse followed by a nice search through the fresh mass of flesh and bones. Golly gee, doesn't my flawless body and angelic features reflect that?

I don't see what the big deal is with having a really gorgeous character. That particular one, however, caused me to have a cavity. I think she's also the one who used to wear wings and flap them so that glittery dust would sprinkle out of them. Angelic eyes? :puke:

She has old battle scars on her right hand.
She is bleeding from the chest, and from the left leg.
She is holding a burnt scroll in her right hand.
She is wearing a midnight blue silk choker adorned with a princess-cut diamond, an exquisite midnight blue overcoat, a midnight blue rose, a fragrant wreath of sweetheart roses adorned with a princess-cut diamond teardrop, a pair of diamond dusted wings, an elegant midnight blue sheath, a short soft black leather skirt adorned with a diamond belly chain, an elegant midnight blue flask, a sparkling diamond-adorned bodice, a princess-cut diamond charm bracelet, a midnight blue riding habit, a diamond crested tower shield, a narrow gold ring, a blue veniom mesh pouch, a dainty diamond-trimmed purse, and a midnight blue silk cloak with sixteen princess-cut diamonds forming a halo around the hood.

Hypolyta the Cleric is the one that did, and still does that. I've never seen Angeliqe do that and I've known her for a while. Shes the kind of empath that doesn't let other empaths work. She whispers to people asking them if they want to be healed as soon as they walk in the room and will keep going well past fried. She did it the other day with 4 other empaths in the room. I've said something to her 2 or 3 times now, next time I'm just going to show her.

Ah, okay, that's who it was. They both used to frequent Solhaven so I was getting them confused, my bad.

Gee, do you think she likes diamonds? I understand going for a theme in an outfit, but do people visualize what an outfit will look like when they dress them up? Having them wear every piece of clothing and accessory with diamonds is just glaringly annoying. She can blind someone if she stands in the sun in just the right way. It's' just.... too much diamond. <twitches>

I had an RP rogue in plat that very few people ever saw. She was the ONLY person in solhaven 99.99% of the time. She was "ferral".

Wore no clothes. Had a "crudely sharpended bone" as a knife. No armor, no shield, none of that. She always hid around other PC's (was afraid of them) so the interaction she did get was rather amusing chases of people atempting to track her down.

Also, she had feature alters to give her (I'm jus throwing this out cause I don't remember the exact wordage) dirty, tangled very long hair. Narrow, squinted eyes, and a slightly bent nose (was broken sometime in her past).

Miss playin her..avoiding people.

Wow, this poor girl must be extremely sensitive to cold! How else would you explain all the layering done here? A riding habit, which consists of either a jacket and skirt or a jacket and pants, topped with a skirt and a bodice, topped with an exquisite midnight blue overcoat, and the whole ensemble covered by the diamond encrusted cloak. All this, and we can still see the tattoo on her waist, the birthmark on her shoulder, and her slender curvaceous figure.

Heh I remember Kismia...I remember her being pretty nice, actually. Atleast, from what I knew of her.

As far as the original post, about the way that person looks...eh...yeah it is a bit over the top. And like someone else mentioned, it's pretty far fetched to imagine a scarred and bloodied empath bleeding at a rate of 10 per from her neck, 4 per from her abdomen and 2 per from her leg looking "flawless." For me, it's right up there with women who go hunting swinging some sort of weapon wearing heels, skirts, dresses, etc. --it's not feesible. It's not something I'd make an issue out of, I mean it's not truly a big deal..there are far worse things people can do...but it's not something you'd ever see on one of my female weapon swinging characters.

I would say a caster though--wizard, sorcerer and possibly cleric...could pull it off. That's about it though.

I thought I was the only person that adjusted female char's clothing for hunting.

Hunting in silk slippers, a soft, flowing gown and a kerchif just seems so...... ... WRONG!

Leather boots, some soft britches, maybe a light shirt (under some leathers), and MAYBE some type of headgear...THATS how you hunt.

Reason why Shalla as a character cannot dodge, climb or defend against physical attacks.

You see Lady Shalla Askanni.
She is wearing a curvaceous black leather armor, an exquisite long black leather cloak accented upon the hood by swirling patterns of silver and ruby some jet black silky hose edged in tiny shimmering rubies, and some sculpted thigh-high leather boots with diamond dusted spiked heels.

My heels aren't made for walking but fogging.. made for sashaying not dodging.. posing not for climbing

>look armor
Tailored for a skintight match to a curvaceous female frame, this suit of leather armor is significantly more sensual than practical. The leather has been dyed to an ink black hue from hood to ankle, and strong silk laces run through silver-rimmed grommets to lace it up the voluptuous front. You also notice a small enchanter's mark.

reason why my DS sucks

ps. My editting also sucks.

..maybe. But you gotta think of movement. How much movement can you muster wearing a 20-30lb ballgown, Sippers that protect not at all from rocks, roots, etc etc. And even then, there is no such thing as "range" with magic. They are swinging at your head, right in your face while you turn and hurl a fireball at them. Thus, the combat system is a touch flawed.

Well, I change for events only. Like if there's a ball or wedding, something of that nature, I'll clean up my character. What woman do you know who'd go to a wedding or ball wearing cracked, battle-worn brigandine and boots?!

But I pretty much keep the same thing on my characters otherwise: some sort of pants, a top, armor and shoes. I'm not big into fluff so I stick with just the necessities.

Speaking IRL, back in the day they did. Those ball gowns where HUGE. And I'm guessin thats what they are refering to in GS as well.

Those ballgowns back then had MANY layers..though I'm sure someone like Spun or one of the other girls would know more about it then me. :)

Victorian ball gowns do have layers. The way some gowns are altered in game right now.. it's pretty out of genre.. I have to admit, even I have those out of genre gowns. I'm not wearing a gown though.. I'm clad in tight body leather.. I guess my In-character explanation for how I get around hunting with heels.. is that I take the brunt of every fireball blasts and weapons. :P

Dodging can be done without moving your feet, its just harder to ballence. But just shifting to the left or right a inch or two can cause a thrust to miss you completely :)

Shalla
08-05-2004, 04:11 PM
Ok, so I can dodge a little.. but realistically speaking.. when you dodge left and right.. you move your head.. and for everybody who has long hair right down to their ankles.. technically wouldn't their hair catch on fire? It would be funny to come home from hunting with half your hair burned.

She has a slender curvaceous figure with a little heart-shaped birthmark on her right shoulder.

Thrilling. You can see that birthmark all the time, even when she's wearing a cloak, armor, gown, or bodice? Ditto with the curvaceous figure, which you can see even if she wears a shapeless sack. I thought body image alterations were not being done?

Nalina's attire is pretty um...fancy. I mean most times she's wearing a corset, pants and boots. But I hate to change her all around when she's wearing a gown so that way its more believable. I'd like to think since she ambush hunts nobody really sees her anyway so its okay if I have her out in the wilds for 5 minutes in a floor-length gown slicing the throats of ogres.

As a guy in Gemstone when I look at a female character wearing tons of stuff I just stop reading it about a line into it.

Am I in the minority here guys?

StrayRogue

Nope. But that goes for anyone. If its longer than four lines, I don't bother.

I'm not a guy and I can tell you I do the same thing. I hate looking at people and seeing line after line of crap. This is the main reason why I rarely LOOK at anyone unless I have a reason to (to see their race and/or gender)

Yeah true, but most guys who have a ton of shit on go for usefulness and don't give a shit if people take the time to read and admire it :) At least I would hope so.

I still liked Soulpieced or Blueland's outfit (can't remember who), it was a pendent and pants, rofl.

If I'm interested in getting to know the character's background and info.. I will look and take my time to read the details, but it's rare for that to happen.. almost never. I don't even bother to type look <character>, unless I want to know the character's Race and sometimes profession, to help in our conversations.. if any.

You see Great Lord Corneelious Elementa.
He appears to be a Faendryl Dark Elf.
He appears to be ancient and tall. He has captivating dark quasi-grey eyes and smooth, dark ebony skin. He has long, silvery-white hair cut chaotically short at the forehead, while the rest flows down his chest where the ends are tied tightly with vaalin cords. He has an angular face, a sharp nose and broad shoulders.
He has a pair of vaalin-edged coraesine rings set along the slender tips of his pointed ears, a black six tentacled star tattoo on his neck, a moon-accented Faendryl crest tattoo on his forearm, and an interlocking abstract tattoo.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a black vaalin-trimmed hat, an elaborate vaalin pendant, a vaalin six tentacled star symbol, an exquisite vaalin cord, a rare black vaalin-tipped rose, a vaalin locket, a vaalin button that reads, "Kailya's Master", a dark vaalin bracer, a vaalin love charm bracelet, an exquisite vaalin bracelet, a dark inlaid vaalin wedding band, a vaalin Faendryl signet ring, an ancient Faendryl vaalin ring, a vaalin-threaded jacket, a vaalin threaded black elven cloak, a vaalin cloak clasp, a vaalin-bound Faendryl sheath, some vaalin edged glaes armor, a low-slung vaalin sword-belt with a vaalin-inlaid scarlet rolaren warblade hanging from it, an intricate shadowglass hexkey, an elaborate vaalin widget, a vaalin-edged black silk satchel, some vaalin-threaded pants, and some dark vaalin-toed boots.

My characters range from few outfits to billions.

Kuaike = Loincloth for summer, and some pants and a jacket for winter. She's the feral one but she hates the cold and is sensible of the need for protection no matter how irritating it is.

Lysistrata = A gazillion outfits, most of which are completely unsuitable for hunting, heh. She's got two hunting/traveling outfits, though, with pants and boots and shirts. But since she hasn't hunted in months, it's kind of a moot point.

Those are my two extremes, heh. My characters have to either wear practically nothing at all, or lots and lots. I have no happy medium.

And, just to open up another can o' debate, I don't think skirts are that bad for hunting. I fight (sword fight, in the Florentine style) every weekend and I've got two outfits for it. One's a kind of ankle-length sleeveless tunic with slits on the sides and front, plus some pants, and the other is a kilted up skirt affair and boneless bodice. I have to tell you, the skirty thing is much more comfortable than the tunic and pants.

I know, I know, sacrelige! I was a tomboy growing up and I would have died rather than wear a skirt, but once I tried it, semi-loose skirts of knee-length or shorter are really really easy to fight in. It just feels less encumbering and binding. The Scots had the right idea. And it's not even bad to wear armor with, depending on the type of armor.

If someone has long alters for 2 bracelets, 2 rings, 2 earrings, 1 nose ring, 1 pendant, 1 broach + their armor + trousers + pants + headgear. That would equal to numerous lines of description.. but if you're really going to imagine it in real life, that's not alot.. It's the limitation of text descriptions that makes it long.. that is why visual/portraits makes it easier..

OMG with the vaalin everything! Heh, and I know and like Corneelious. He's a sweetheart but boy, too much of a good thing!

I once knew someone who wore nothing but orange items. I think I called him Orange Julius once. :puke:

Hmm, I've never done swordfighting so I will have to take your word for it, DCSL. With that, I imagine there would be some skirts/dresses that could pull it off...HOWEVER!!!!!! (you knew that was coming..hee)

What about the female rogue in the "tight leather skirt" sweeping things? And, I maintain my point about the heels. :bleh:

***edited to add: Again, I'm not bashing people who wear stuff like that. Whatever floats your boat, really. It's just something I wouldn't do because *I* find it silly. That doesn't mean I'm saying all players of Gemstone have to conform to what I feel is and isn't silly.

If you manage to live, you get an unbearable amount of teasing. Besides, how many times have you gone into a fight seriously thinking you were going to die? Now that I consider it, when my characters go out and hunt, they do it in areas that they're 95% sure they'll survive.

Haha, one of my old rogues was adopted by Nordred like four years ago. I can't remember his then wife's name, I think maybe Kismia? I dunno, too long ago.

LOL he married? He must have ten kids and still has no wife, he goes through girlfriends faster than anything

I never change my characters outfits just because of how I personally am. I never look at other characters and actually look at what they're wearing so why bother to change my own stuff?

:yeahthat:

Exactly... I might remove my armor during special ceremonies; however, now that my armor is altered on most of my characters it fits right in and will suffice just fine. But then again, all of my characters are guys and its just seems the natural thing to do.

Also, being a text based game, I really dont fret over other player's outfits, just my own and my fiancee/wife's outfits as every good fiancee/spouse should be.

Hey now, don't bag on people who look at others' outfits just 'cause you don't. I don't bag on people who obviously enjoy the mechanics side of the game. We all play the same game, we just do it for different reasons.

I'll just go hide in my Cyber Barbie corner now.

Exactly. I'd do it if I were premium. But I'm not, so I only have one locker and it is currently almost full.
