I am a huge fan of the Tonis sets.
And though it doesn't have the same cache, I'm also rather proud of my 7x, heavily crit padded, 4-slot fusion augmented chain that's +14 to ranged, +21 to dexterity stat, +11 to ambush. Basically, +27/+35 with hcp.

what's thailor's staff? or what did it used to do?
way back in the day, i think either on AOL or just after GS moved to the internet, i thought i was pretty hot stuff as like a level 16 sorcerer. I was just hanging out at the boulder in the hobs, when someone challenged me to a duel. He was level 7 he said. We bet 10k on it (which was a lot for me back then). I had never dueled before, but I figured why not? I'm unlikely to lose and I can just stay in stance guarded the whole time. He then asked if there were any rules to it, anything off limits? I couldn't really think of anything so I think I made up something about making sure the other person gets to a cleric and resurrected intact. He asked again, "are you SURE there isn't anything off limits?" This made me really nervous, but I said no.
We started the duel. He raised his sword to the sky. And it immediately killed me dead. I don't think there was a roll or anything. It just flat out killed me. He (or maybe it was his Lord level companion) said, "He DID ask you if there was anything off limits." I have not dueled again. I have no idea what his weapon was. Any ideas?

I thought they nerfed it down to 5x, and then further nerfed it down to 1x? Maybe I'm thinking of the Darkstone Key, I know that got nerfed too after Tsin got ahold of it but I forgot how badly.
I got to use them both as well as Thalior's staff, so that makes me l33t.

The most powerful weapon is probably the soul draining sword that no one would ever use for fear of being nerfed. So that doesn't really count.
For a short time the glove bows go into god mode, but they can't maintain it.
I dunno, I'd say the original ebows are probably the most powerful items weapon wise.

For a short time the glove bows go into god mode, but they can't maintain it.
This made me curious, and looking at the stats, a Halfling Volnite with maxed Spirit Regen enhancives could get an innate 1 Spirit regen per 2 minutes off node, with the 2 minute cooldown 1 Spirit Regen Voln power . . . equates to an effective 1 Stamina per minute regen. Since the glove bows take 1 stamina per 45-60 seconds, a character like that would have a net loss of about 1 spirit every 7ish minutes, if you get a fairly average rate of spirit drain (every 52ish seconds, on average?). Not sure how dramatically Ranged AS drops from Spirit Drain (if at all), but they could maintain for about 7 minutes for every Spirit point they had, and with Spirit max enhancives, could last for a little under an hour and a half in god mode before spirit death.
So that would be cool.
EDIT: Looked at other stats on this item, and it can enter God mode every 120 minutes, and allows a continued access to some of the bonus for 20 minutes after ending God mode. With this crazy setup you could maintain God-mode or at least a buffed up variant for about 110/120 minutes all day long, and then regen your Stamina on a node in the downtime.
So what rich halfling wants to buy this and the required enhancives?

Crystal Ball should be unlimited local use and once a day crossrealms now, it also had strange limits, areas it just wouldnt work, like all of Teras and most of Logoth but it was 100 percent unlimited. The key should still be unlimited use in and out of darkstone, it used to be settable on room anywhere in game, now its just one room landing area and it has to be ringable. Painting was awesome, in a disk basically every could walk thru it and go to landing TSC from every room in game, now it must be in hand and it goes to the local TSC. Kree's sword is likely the most powerful weapon, when drawn it steals spirit from everyone but the weilder thats in the room. Thalior's eye is the most fun, eye worn item that was pretty much unwardable instant death, it could fail though, would fully despell the user and knock em into like 10 seconds RT, oh and its a DB item to boot. There is a damned nice 10x DS 6x TD shield staff wandering around too. Locker Staff and Teras Staff are a nice combo to own, each is unlimited but one way. have both ya get alot of free trips. Thingul diamond is nice too half a dozen unlimited use spells is hard to complain about, especially when one is 430.

Wizard hand's are pretty awesome. Oh, and isn't there going to be another spirit bow released soon?
I suppose part of the problem with determining the best item is considering usage. There are some items which people just won't use for fear of being nerfed. For instance there is an unlimited knockdown + RT with no warding check or resource consumption item but the owner won't use it for hunting after being warned it would be nerfed if he did, but in theory it's a super strong item.

The glove bow shoots to 15x and flares every shot?
Taken from Krakii --
Properties
Each gauntlet can be raised to make a 5x enchant bow of pure energy appear in your hand. This costs 20 mana.
It costs 5 mana every minute to keep the bow from receding back into the gauntlet.
Arrows are created from the bow as you draw it back and are 0x enchant with plasma flares.
Double flares on the undead.
Once every 2 hours the gauntlet can be clenched to enter a spirit draining mode that drastically improves the bow's strength.
In spirit mode it costs 1 spirit every 45-60 seconds to maintain.
Once in spirit mode the arrows become 5x enchanted, and will flare on every hit.
Also once spirit mode starts the glove imparts a bonus of +10 to strength, aura, and influence that lasts for 20 minutes. Even after the bow has left spirit mode.
After the first spirit point is drained the arrows become 10x enchant.
Sometime after the first spirit point drain the bow will increase to 10x as well, making for effectively a 20x always flaring bow.
When spirit mode ends either by death or DROPping/SWAPping/WEARing the weapon back into the gauntlet it will inflict 2nd degree hand wounds.
Because the bow is made of pure energy, when disarmed the bow just recedes back into the gauntlet and needs to be reformed.
All in seriousness, it is the ultimate undead hunting tool. In god mode, it flares every time and double flares on undead.
Which leads me to believe that the new ones may be double flares on living.

I think there are many conventional weapons that are super strong which are used constantly. We hunt everywhere with a 10x HCW perfect lance. I'm sure some others have stupidly high enchant claids and weighted weapons they use on the regular as well.
I wish they'd make some more of those old school insanely neat and unique items though, seems like the SIMU point of view is less fun=better.

Your key word there is "we". I would argue a solo player not wearing hundreds of millions in gear is not going to take a 80m weapon into OTF if there is any chance they can die or have died in the past. If they do, it just doesn't make any sense.

There are a couple of other strung axes out there. Koops I believe owns one, and Arctal just bought one. I have two: 10x permablessed perfect, and 8x ecw. As far as I know they are the only weapons that can be brought up to 40x enchant (the highest enchant anyone can hold in their hand). I've brought the 10x one up to that level several times, but more commonly during regular hunting I don't need to use that feature.
For years I had a policy of never holding anything in my hand that I couldn't afford to lose, and somehow I ended up with these. I guess I figure it's a game, and it's no fun to locker the good stuff. I agree with Whiteflash though, screw the Ithzir and their thieing ways.
As for "most powerful item" there are a few out there that just don't get talked about because the owners don't want to see them nerfed. Can't say that I blame them. Makes you wonder how many things got nerfed after falling into the hands of someone who couldn't use them judiciously and instead decided to exploit them for maximum power/profit.

Well the game changes, and sometimes those changes aren't very compatable with old items. It still bugs me, but the truth is that in most cases, if people aren't dicks about it, their stuff isn't going to be tampered with. When things get nerfed, exploitation or borderline exploitation usually comes first. Sometimes it's something that SIMU just didn't think of, or just wasn't possible when the item was originally created. The gold bar making items are a good example of this. With some changes to skills and addition of lores, you could basically mint silvers with one of those. Had they not made the skill changes the smelters would have remained nifty but far from uber items. Once they figured out that someone could have a nice net gain of silvers with the right training, they nerfed them. I think they could have come up with a better solution than they did, but the nerf hammer is rarely subtle.

There is a nice looking 10x claid in plat, brought to that level (almost) solely through premium points. It recently changed hands, as the owner retired his accounts. Not sure where that fits on the 'most powerful weapon' scale.

Hand droppage on death was recently removed in plat. Full droppage on decay and death's sting now.

That red armor before the redux "update" would have been unreal. Here was a swing from hiding when I was about 130, not sure what armor Vlat was wearing, but that was a 1 round stun... 40 points of damage padding would have brought that final roll down to a rank 1.
You leap from hiding to attack!

... and hit for 54 points of damage!
Strong slash to Vlatimire's right leg!
Muscles exposed!
Not a pretty sight.
He is stunned!
Executioner's sword clashes with battle-torn armor!

red armor is only 5x, before the redux nerf and the padding changes, a warrior above 70 or so was pretty much unkillable with a weapon hit, including claids and the 40 point mattocks. capped warriors then could get to like 85 percent redux or something, it was complete overkill, then you got imploded or DC'd. I always thought items that let you do stuff noone else could were the best items, things like the Pallbearers. That one is awesome, if it even still works now.

I agree, but I can see how certain game changes could result in an item being OP compared to its original intended limitations.
The locker staff is a good example. It's unlimited use cross realm teleport to whatever town your locker is in. With the new mover mechanics that can move your locker instantly with the express option for only like 30k, it effectively makes that item a teleport to any town instantly item.
Not that I'd be against it being that way, especially when I used to own it, but I'm just pointing out one of the rare circumstances where a nerf could be understandable.

Maybe it's because I play a square, I don't see a 10x db as all that powerful. Desirable and cool and rare and all that yes, but in terms of power it falls short of your 10x 40 point armor by quite a bit.
The summoning rings are also fairly amazing. Unlimited use 0 RT summoning of anyone in gold ring distance who you can trust to hold the item once. I used the SHIT out of that item when I used to play. I hope you guys see some use out of yours.
Didn't that used to work cross-realm?

Tsin went nuts with it (and the Darkstone key) when he got it until it got nerfed.
Fun fact about the Darkstone key: Part of Tsin's payment to acquire the key was $1500, which he got from his dad after telling him he needed some books for some new college classes.
Who has the crystal ball and Darkstone key now anyway?

Katara has the ball, not sure if she got it directly from Tsin or not. I do know it was nerfed again after she got it.
I think I probably have the best runestaff in game, though it depends which orbs I put in it, presently....
The harmonics generated tell you that the staff has been infused with a disrupting substance.
The staff resonates with your voice, indicating that it enhances its owner in the following ways:

This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 72 times.
It provides a bonus of 14 to Agility.

I am also in that camp. There will always be some risk, but what's the point of owning stuff if you're not going to use it? My bigger problem is the faults with hurling that allow you to throw weapons at lichen instead of liches, and there on the ground sits your weapon. This blows.

The three owners of the spirit bows likely won't sell. You'd have to offer all 3 obscene amounts or have another uber bow to trade. Better off getting a ton of silvers and going after the new ones. You'll have a better chance at securing a new one than an old.

The Roblar Strikes Back!
You make a precise attempt to punch a ghost wolf!
You have excellent positioning against a ghost wolf.
UAF: 620 vs UDF: 111 = 2.000 (capped) * MM: 98 + d100: 45 = 241
... and hit for 89 points of damage!
Strong attack separates head from shoulders.
Head disappears in the breeze as a new one forms on the ghost wolf's shoulders!
You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the ghost wolf's body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens.
The ghost wolf falls back into a heap and dies.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

http://forum.gsplayers.com/archive/index.php/t-77203.html
I'm always torn between feeling bad for you, well because sometimes I feel bad for people as sad as you, and thinking how the world would likely be better off if you got hit by a bus. Made up stories about an alter after you paid more for an item than it was worth... all just to get it from a third party because I didn't want to have any business with someone like you? See, I mean it's hard not to feel bad for the tragedy you call your life...

Meditation chimes allowed anyone to use the old cleric meditation to absorb super fast while resting, as well I assume it helped clerics with spirit recovery though of that I am unsure

Ah, that account. It's a real shame - the primary character was one of the more experienced characters at the time. I expect that account had several items that were very powerful.

I agree. If the accounts are permabanned, who gives a shit what the owners of the accounts think or feel about it.
Perhaps simu is content with having those items locked away though. One of the few wats for item attrition.

The thing is... is it's actually in the rules.
If you get banned/permabanned, you forfeit all rights to your account. For all intents and purposes, Simu could legally run this and make thousands of dollars. More than thousands, considering how many bitchin items we know are locked away on permabanned accounts.... The med chimes, the Kai belt, the third arm, etc. All sorts of shit could be grand auction sold for a HUGE silver drain on the game, which helps them.

Yeah, unless there is some hope of reactivation, attrition is the only reason I can think of not to confiscate the items for redistribution in some way. It would truly be a treasure trove to unearth and sort. I want that job.

I like that we have to talk about this in terms of "taking" the items from the permabanned accounts instead of you know...just selling copies of said items and leaving the items alone. pretty sure no one signed a contract saying they owned the ONLY copy of the belt of kai in gemstone iv, etc. I mean, kai at least needs a brown and a black. Of all the items I had, I always thought the golvern plate I had was the most unbalancing and therefor the best item I had. It was incredibly crit padded, 7x IIRC full plate that weighed 10 lbs or 12 lbs I think. I added spikes to it. If I'd focused on my halfling warrior, with his never ending bandolier, that plate and all the other toys I had (10x dbs, 120, 430 items, etc), I could have easily capped him. As it was, it was so ridiculously padded it kind of made hunting him boring.

Good start! I especially like the "essence of insanity" bit. Now, do I need to somehow wedge a typewriter under a Hearthstone rocking chair to see this finished or will you be able to do that here? We need:
1. Exactly what spells it casts and when
2. Some logs of its unique messaging
3. Its description (doesn't it have a show?)

It is also rather situational. I've never had padded armor and I very rarely die. There have been times where damage padding would have saved me from a death and other times where crit padding might have. In most hunting situations I'd definitely take damage padding over crit, but for invasions, where I die the most, crit padding is by far and away the better choice.

Yea crit padding is likely the better of the two even for a warrior with redux (unless red armor + halfling/gnome), due to spells & manuevers that may take it into account.
I've also never worn any padded armor and have no health or crit issues to melee. Flaring armor was fine for years for sometimes stunning, knocking down, or killing them for me.
Now I'm a graduate of the Kerl School of TD on Plate, Class of 2014!

I think the problem with MAing is the lack of MA RP. Yes, you can RP with yourself. Yes, it's weird sometimes. But for example, I have some dhe'nar characters that use the Tehir pocket wizard or empath as slaves. So instead of just spelling me up or healing me, they bow submissively, call me master, etc. So you can RP it. It might not be the "omg Ardwen cuddly hearthstone steps have to know everyone from freakin 1992" traditional roleplay but it's still interesting to a lot of players I encounter.
