View Full Version : Hurlable sliver creating box

a golden oak leaf-shaped box - The oak leaf-shaped box appears relatively unremarkable except for a small door recessed into the bottom of the box, and a tiny opening at the top. A small area on top of the box looks as though it's designed to be depressed.

Possibly the cheapest and easiest method of being a thrown weapon user short of buying an endless bandolier of some sort or a returning weapon

Belt worn, you get slabs of metal and you put the slab in it.. then when you push on the box it shears off a sliver and into your hand, allowing you to hurl the sliver. The natural properties of the slab should be held over in the slivers.

>put slab in my box
You slip the steel slab into the opening on the bottom of the oak leaf-shaped box, and then flip the cover closed with a click!
>push my box
You press the box, and feel the steel sliver spring into your hand!

With a quick flick of your wrist, you deftly send a thin steel sliver into flight.
You throw a thin steel sliver at a rolton!
AS: +160 vs DS: -5 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +98 = +298
... and hit for 40 points of damage!
Strike to temple! Saved by a thick skull!
The rolton collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
You notice that the steel sliver deforms slightly as you use it!
Lacking the force and angle to lodge in a rolton, the steel sliver simply falls.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

(I have 0 skill in thrown weapons)

Someone asked how many slivers it makes per slab. Using a fresh 25lb steel slab I made 5 slivers. Then I had to "wind it up"

>push my box
You press your oak leaf-shaped box, but absolutely nothing happens!
>turn box
Your fingers find a small recessed key in the oak leaf-shaped box, and with a quick turn, you can hear the soft metallic click of it winding.
Roundtime: 21 sec.

It looks like you might need to pre-turn it per sliver. I turned it 3 times, got 3 more slivers, then had to turn it again. Which makes me think it had been turned a handful of times already before I got it out.

By the time I had about 40 slivers and still 17lbs of slab remaining.

When I read the title I thought it said silver, not sliver. I was going to bid on this just so I could throw silvers at critters. Not I'm just sad :(

does it weigh as much as the slab you've got in it when its loaded and if you drop a slab of vultite in it does it hurl 4x? drakar hurl flares?

box empty is 2lbs, box with a fresh 25lbs slab is 27lbs, via loresong.

Yes, it would weigh as much as the slab. However you can freely cut your slabs to the size and weight you feel comfortable with in the forge. Yes, using a vultite slab would yield 4x projectiles as well as using drakar slabs would yield 1x and flares. In addition you can precrank this as far as it will allow while resting for ease of use. There is also a flippable lever to switch from dart based slivers to dagger based shards. The projectiles are zested and will not pull you out of hiding when you retrieve them from the shadows.

Some example of the zesting to help your sale:

Get shard
You get your vultite shard, tossing it into the air and deftly catching it in a ready position!

Push my shard
You tip your palm forward, letting the vultite shard fall a bit before you snatch it up between two fingers, ready to let the vultite shard fly.

And now for a shameless plug, if someone is looking for a raffled version with a gnomish alter I have one that adds an enchant onto the metal supplied for 10m.

Beautiful head shot!
That ear will be missed!
The rolton is stunned!
You notice that the steel sliver deforms slightly as you use it!
The steel sliver is deflected to one side, sailing to the ground.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
R>get my sliver
You get your mithril sliver, tossing it into the air and deftly catching it in a ready position!
>hurl rolton
With a quick flick of your wrist, you deftly send a thin mithril sliver into flight.
You throw a thin mithril sliver at a rolton!
AS: +165 vs DS: -17 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +35 = +252
... and hit for 29 points of damage!
Beautiful head shot!
That ear will be missed!
The rolton collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
You notice that the mithril sliver deforms slightly as you use it!
Bad angle. The mithril sliver fails to stick in a rolton.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

1x for a mithril slab, as opposed to the steel slab.

You probably can if you get a slab of silver, like when you 125 a box or something.

That would be awesome! Would that work?

If someone wants to find Japhrimel IG with a slab of silver, we can test it, assuming you do so before the box is sold.

I also learned that you can load slabs into it and turn it while it's in another container, having accidently tried to do so to test the silver.

also, when I loresang the silver sliver..

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the silver sliver in your hand...

The harmonics generated tell you that the sliver does extra damage when it strikes.

oh... and...

>flip my box
You flip a small recessed toggle on the side of the oak leaf-shaped box!

apparently you can make daggers with it, too.. shards..

>push my box

You press the box, and feel the silver shard spring into your hand!

which, when loresung...

.. I tested a steel sliver, just in case.. loresong value of 5 coins, 0x, no special properties listed.. whereas the silver is 32k, 0x and reads as above.

warrior assessed the shard, said it was normal.

Is there a limit to how many slivers you can make? Does it ever need repairing?

There doesn't appear to be a limit, but you do need to turn it to wind it up, then push to make sliver. Turning it can be annoying, but you can turn if a number of times, say five for example, and then push it five times for results. Personally I'd haste myself "pre-turn" it ten, fifteen times, then go from there.

Note: I haven't played with it much, but the more I do the more stuff I learn, so I can't say with 100% certainty that it will always work, but it gives no messaging or anything that would indicate it is temp or breaks down. I know of others like this and have never heard of any breaking down.
