View Full Version : Lich quick game entry won't launch wizard
New install on Windows 8, but I copied my old Lich files onto this computer and just didn't overwrite any duplicates (so scripts and such were put in the script folder and data was put in the data folder). The lich launcher pops up but when I click a character it appears to hang. I changed my PW on the simu side and the server returned a password error when I tried to login with the new client so I know it's getting that far. Wizard runs fine without Lich. Do I have to use a fresh fresh install on a new computer?

When you start up the Lich entry, click the install tab and then click restart as admin, then run normally.
Is it possible for Lich to run default as an Admin?

I haven't found a way, though I haven't actually looked for a way.

1. A fresh download of the zip file\EXTRACT to a different folder.
2. Copy your scripts to new scripts directory. DO NOT REPLACE FILES. skip, and you'll only have the ones you wrote\downloaded yourself.
3. Run lich from new directory.

Is it possible for Lich to run default as an Admin?
I've tried several times to get this to work.
I can get the ruby interpreter to default run as admin, but since Lich is a script, it seems not to let me run it as admin automatically.
But then again, I'm not the "owner" of the computer (just a sub-admin) so you could try it yourself. You might have better luck.
Create a lich shortcut on your desktop. Right click, select properties. Select the advanced button. See if the "run as administrator" option is available to you. It's greyed out for me.

I just uploaded Lich 4.4.9 which has a workaround for Windows 8.
Also.. Windows 8 is bad... I mean like really bad... it made me cry.

On Thursday, February 28th, at approximately 11am Eastern, our GemStone and DragonRealms servers will be shut down for routine maintenance. We expect this to take around 90 minutes, but we will strive to complete it sooner and restart the servers as quickly as possible. The website, forums, Alliance of Heroes, and Modus Operandi should not be affected.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I downloaded the new version, you still have to start as admin in windows 8.

Win8 machine worked fine yesterday and part of today but I went to boot up another character and the windows security didn't pop up like it usually does to allow access to Lich. I shut my computer down and restarted it and now every time I click play in Lich it just closes Lich down and doesn't bring up the security pane nor does it launch the Wizard. I have tried both running as admin and not but neither seems to work. Any recommendations?

@ Drew;
Right click on Ruby, and set that to start as admin, then lich will auto-start as admin.. you'll still get the prompt, but it'll be before the lich window shows up, and should save you a couple clicks.

Whoever left this negative rep: Read the thread... Wait til the game is up. I was able to log in to the game via the website but not via Lich!

Yeah I really hate it so much.
Why?
I'm running Win 8 Pro on my xps 12 and have 0 complaints. If you don't use a touch screen ever I'm not sure the Metro UI is useful but I'm liking it with the ultra book.

I don't really see any difference between your setup and my working test setup. I uploaded Lich 4.4.10 which only adds some more debug messages. Try it out and post your new debug file.

Where can we get this Till? I went to the download page and it looked like the 4.4.9 files.

Well, I'm out of ideas. It works for me and I can't find any reason that it wouldn't for you.

Why are all you suckas using Win8? Personally, I can't stand the tablet OSs. I'm not dazzled by the goddamn scrolling tiles, flashy buttons, and whatnot. I've always preferred the 'details' view for things like explorer, so these tablets annoy me (I don't own one, but I've set up and helped people figure things out with several of them; maybe they're more customizable than I realize, I really haven't checked) with their stupid tiles. The whole 'app' buzz is also annoying as shit, but maybe I'm just a grumpy old focker.
Anyhow, personal preference aside, I think it's generally advisable to avoid upgrading to new a new Microsoft OS until the next iteration comes along (ie: skip WinME goto XP, skip Vista goto 7). Also, to me, it seems like putting Win8 on a home desktop is like putting Win2k on the same type of machine. I could very well be missing something, though.

You can just stick it on Desktop mode. It is better optimized for SSDs and shit.
