View Full Version : Lich scripts can hack?

I was trying to write up my own hunting script from scratch and I was testing out using ##{target.id} to use for targeting critters. I wanted to make sure it wouldn't keep trying to cast at a critter who had moved so I thought the easiest way to test it would be to move rooms myself after I had started casting. So after the first cast I changed rooms and it cast the spell at the critter again even though the critter wasn't in the room (there were no critters in the room), I went back to the room and sure enough the critter was dead. I did this 3 more times thinking maybe somehow I wasn't moving rooms fast enough so I tried it again but this time managed to get 4 rooms away before the script tried casting again and it cast at the critter (4 rooms away) and killed it.
Thinking maybe this was just a fluke with the spell I was using I tried a different spell and it did the same thing. I got another character of mine to stay in the room with the critter while my other character running the script moved away and my stationary character saw the usual CS TD blah blah blah, he saw the critter taking damage and all of that but it didn't say who was casting at the critter or anything.
As much as I'd love to hunt from the safety of town I get the feeling something isn't right here.

Where did this take place?
I tried it in several different hunting grounds, happened in all of them. I forgot to mention that the character running the script saw the usual combat messaging too, CS, TD, damage being done. It might be limited to just bard spells though, tried it with my empath and it didn't work.
ETA: Yup, must be limited to bard spells. I tried it with 415 on the same bard and it didn't work. Weirdness.

Oddly, that makes some kind of sense since the effects of a bard's song can linger for a bit after the bard leaves a room. How did it go down? Something like casting 1030, leaving quickly, then renewing it?

That's how I found out about it but I don't have to be quick about it at all. I let the script run for a while and it cast 1002 at the same critter 20 times. I also have the script set up to tell me when the critter is "gone" or "dead" and it echoed to me before every cast that the critter was "gone", as soon as someone killed it not only did the script echo to me that it was dead but I got the in game messaging of "A little bit late for that don't you think? But it is dead!"

Just be careful about getting nailed for mechanics abuse.

I'm not going to take advantage of it. Just thought it was something funny to share and test out.

[Town Square, Southeast]
You notice a gypsy fortuneteller, a massive wheeled tower and a giant mound of snow.
Obvious paths: north, south, west, northwest
>
The gypsy fortuneteller gazes at you intently, she shakes her head at something you cannot see and makes an odd sign in the air.

You change your tune slightly, adding the element for Stunning Shout to your song...
Your spellsong is ready.

A sand devil is enraged by your attack!
CS: +192 - TD: +171 + CvA: +25 + d100: +80 == +126
Warding failed!
A sand devil is struck violently by the tightly focused sonic energy of your cacophonous shout!
A sand devil is staggered by the sonic force!
The intensity of the sonic assault stuns a sand devil!
Sing Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Large hailstones pound relentlessly on you.
You are able to avoid the damage of the tempest raging around you.

Warding failed!
... 17 points of damage!
... 3 points of damage!
Chest hit causes the sand devil to spin around like a halfling after a fresh tart.

The sand devil hastily consumes its aquamarine wand in its powerful jaws and seems to be spinning faster.
Too bad you don't get exp for things dieing in areas you aren't in. I wonder if you'd get arrested/charged if you killed somebody in town this way?

You have been awarded 400 Experience and 4000 Fame by Finros for: "Reporting the issue with remote casting of bard spells."
That was fast. I'm almost afraid to test it now to see if it's been fixed because maybe they're watching for it now.

Heh, Finros added himself to the fame list in Shattered at position 289 with 982 fame. I wonder if he'll give me something for reporting that I added myself to the list and fucked up his 'fun with numbers' deal.

Let's organize a mass suicide in TSC to protest. That'll show them.

If Finros is on it, it will probably get taken care of in relatively short order.
