For me the greatest movie of the Aliens franchies has always been # 2. Aliens. James Cameron made this movie into one of the greatest of it's time, and I still often quote lines from it. Bill Paxton was such a hatable wuss, the character Vasquez was badass, and the weapons looked and sounded fucking awesome. This game feels like a tribute to that movie, so I'm loving it so far. The guns sound like they're straight out of the movie. The only drawback I see to it so far aside from not being able to change difficulty on the fly is the graphics. They feel a little 2007 or so, but the gameplay is still solid and decently challenging on hard difficulty. I recommend this game highly to anyone who loves the movie Aliens as much as I do.

No need to worry about difficulty when you can just run past the aliens and they won't bother turning around to chase/attack you.

I'll be waiting a year or so for it to be $5.

Have you played it? I have. They're turning around to chase/attack me.

You're right. Plenty of terrible reviews for it. So far I disagree with all of them that I've read, aside from critique of the graphics which are decidedly outdated.

90% of the games I wait till they are 10-20 bucks before I buy them. I have been disappointed way to many times with new releases.

This does a fairly good job of explaining the clusterfuck.

What ever happened to game company A makes a game, game company A markets the game, game company A ships the game.
Sega makes a game that actually is made by gearbox, but in reality is made by -insert some other game company here-. Weird

Sega is mainly a publisher these days.

Aside from all that "who made this game" squabbling, I really don't get what people hate about it. I'm playing it with the surround sound up and in parts it's very much like playing thru the movie, which is awesome. The story picks up right where Aliens left off. Quite a few vehicles, characters, and sets are straight out of the movie, as well as a few actors. The gameplay is fast paced and I haven't seen a glitch to speak of aside from having to look directly at a piece of ammo to pick it up instead of being able to just run by tapping E to get it. I think maybe people are just so spoiled from the past few years of each game looking better than the last, that they can't get past the mid grade quality graphics.

It's not just the graphics that people are complaining about, although I can see why they would. If you compare the demo that was shown versus how the graphics are in the final game it's a pretty big difference. Not only have all the textures been neutered they completely removed dynamic lighting.

Surprisingly enough, I don't mind the graphics.
Here's what I don't like:
- motion tracker is useless in SP as enemies spawn from grates within a few feet of you with no warning
- marines level up from singleplayer AND multiplayer, while aliens only level from multiplayer (every match I've been in had level 10-20 marines vs. level 1 - 6 aliens, and no, marines don't need fully upgraded weapons to be 'equal' to aliens)
- with the exception of one or two levels, there is no suspenseful atmosphere
- final boss is a complete joke
- AI is atrocious, with many, many bugs
- no dedicated servers, and if the host leaves you're booted with all progress lost
- there's really no reason to use anything but the pulse rifle or a shotgun
- terrible retcon story
- poor voice acting

I usually agree with most of what Angry Joe thinks in terms of video games (his GW2 review was a little over the top, but he's not a "regular" MMO player):

I've gotta say that the length of the campaign was a bit of a dissapointment. I spent maybe 12 hours on it before beating it on hard difficulty. Still, I found this game enjoyable as a tribute to the movie Aliens and I'd still recommend it to anybody that loves that movie as much as I do.
