Not that anyone cares.. but I had a couple of friends that played, so I stuck it out.

Hacking got insane, basically if you were on a decent pop server, and had good gear, a hacker found you with esp and killed you for it. So we waited for Private server rentals... They get released yesterday.

Prices..

30+50 man servers.. approx 41 dollars.. and then 25$ to add a password. For 1 month.

100 Man servers were about 100 a month, 125 with password.

Then they didn't create NEW servers, they just sold existing public ones to the people as private, so 260 public servers dropped down to 100 public ones instantly.

Then after thousands of complaints.. they state that they are reviewing pricing, and hold off on buying servers as prices will go down...

What do they do?

They remove the 30 man options saying they meant private servers to really be public not private, and that people shouldnt have personal servers. INCREASED 50 man prices to 66$ a month and called it lowering.. because passwords are free now. 70 and 100 mans are also slightly higher, tho they claim they are not.

This game's customer service is even better then GS's!!

Wow, this game again?

Was this the one where they said "we will have 100 man servers" and straight up said "when we say 100 we aren't lying, but you can only do like 40"?

At least with Simu, they either say "yeah, we are working on it, but it might be 10 years" or straight up say "yeah we scrapped that after promising it for 10 years".

These guys will literally say "we are offering this, but we are not current offering it". They don't say "100 player servers one day!" they say "Come play our game which features 100 player servers!"

They did have 100 man servers. Those are gone now, they expect people to pay 100+ a month to host the 100 mans for them now.

If I recall it was during release, the official advertising said 100 man servers, but there weren't actually any, and there was an interview with the guy and he blatantly defended saying 100 when there were no 100 man servers.

I think like, the first week there was no 100 man, then after that they had 20 100 man on US and EU lists. Which very few people went into those anyway, only 2 during peak were close to 100, and most of those people sat at safe zones to trade.

Ahh, here it was.

Let's be frank: when you read "up to 100 players" -- what does it mean to you personally? I mean, for me it doesn't mean that I will play with 99 other players. Really And yes game supports 100 players -- heck, it supports actually over 400 players per server as of today. Do we have servers launched with this number of slots? No we don't, because this is not what our players WANT.

In other words, its okay to adverstise up to 100 players, as long as the developer doesn't personally think up to 100 players means 100 players, and the player base isn't clamouring for it.

Looks like the majority of the issue was that the game was released in a very, very alpha stage, but was advertised as complete.

Sergey Titov: Okay good point -- so you think that if we'll have server with 100 players up and running it means we've delivered even if everybody will hate it ?

Another choice quote I like. More evidence that its okay to advertise something without implementing it, as long as people "hate it". I realize they added it in a week or two later, but still.

Hahaha, and re-reading, my absolute favorite:

Sergey Titov: As for information about Steam webpage -- we'll post [an] official explanation to our forums, and yes we'll apologize for presenting information in a way that allowed different interpretation. Such as "up to 100 player' issue -- clearly you think about it one way, myself and other people I just asked think it's totally acceptable to say this.

I suspect if someone ask who these people were, his response would be "Me, myself, and I"

Wasn't this game so incomplete and so bad that it was removed from Steam after an uproar?

Wait for it... Server rentals are now 90$ a month for a 50 man server. They think this is fair and reasonable based on other game prices.

I'm not sure how the math works that allows for "a reduction" to end up higher than it was before, but I have faith that complex theoretical formulas could make it work.

Well.. this is their reasoning..

Hello

With the release of the latest patch of The WarZ we've had a very busy and exciting week. Due to the popularity of the latest update we face an interesting decision.

Getting directly to the point, we find it necessary to raise the prices for Server Rentals.

We realize that this may not be as well received as "pie for all" but there are some very good reasons for this decision:

There is increasing and overwhelming demand for server rentals.
Our primary goal (at this time) is to provide Server Rentals for large groups and clans.
In order to meet this goal, we need to stabilize Server Rental demand.
To address this price increase for smaller groups and individuals, we are adding more free public servers, and will continue to increase to this amount over the next few weeks.
We are looking for ways to lower server costs and once this opportunity will presents itself we'll look to adjust prices accordingly with as much advance notice as possible.

We appreciate all of the interest and feedback. Please remember to keep the material constructive.

Sincerely,

The WarZ team

Basically, they don't want to rent servers to smaller groups. They just want to rent to large groups. So they are adjusting demand by increasing the cost so smaller groups don't try to buy them. Since it has taken some people 48+ hours to get their server at this point.

The company is supposedly doing it all in house, they are not buying server space. That's why it is taking so long. Ok.. I can almost understand that. But they knew there was a demand for thousands of servers.. so whatever. But how the price can go from 45$ on day one, to 90 on day 3 is beyond me. It obviously doesn't cost them more then 45 to set up a server, otherwise that wouldn't been the price day 1. it's a money grab. Plain and simple.

I think it's safe to say at this point that if you give that company a dime, you're a sucker.

I agree, hence why I am not giving them a dime, and rarely play now. It was a good idea, they just did it very very badly.

I was speaking more to the general 'you', but yeah, they definitely mangled a pretty cool concept.

I don't know the specific differences between WarZ and Day Z, but from what I can tell, they are pretty similar. And that makes it really sad, because someone came up with a great idea, and then someone else took it and managed to ruin it, while simultaneously engaging in incredibly poor business practices and customer service. I can only wonder how people like this stay in business.

They didn't ruin the concept of zombie survival, they just fucked up their version of it. Day Z standalone is coming, and even if it's just a more stable version of the Arma mod it's going to be wildly successful.

Jarvan

Day Z looks ok, but they are also doing some very dumb things. BUT, no one ever thinks a game is perfect. So far Day Z doesn't have a way to store loot offline. Which kinda sucks. But it does make it more survival. The problem with WarZ and Likely DayZ is there is no penalty for being an outlaw, and/or killing people at the drop of a hat.

TheEschaton

The penalty is supposed to be that no one trusts you, and shoots at you on sight.

The penalty is supposed to be that no one trusts you, and shoots at you on sight.

But everyone shoots everyone on sight. The penalty is supposed to be unable to access safezones because NPC's would shoot and kill you.

They dont have that coded in yet. The Outlaws were to have their own safe zone, where it was basically not safe, just a place to access their global inventory and such. They could still be killed. I think we are a few years away from that.

These devs make Simu look fast..
