View Full Version : Biden Says Shotgun Is Better Than Assault Weapon

Biden, doing a Google+ “hangout” to promote President Barack Obama’s proposals for battling gun violence, had been asked whether a new assault weapons ban might infringe on the Second Amendment rights of those who want one “as a last line of defense” to fend off looters after “some terrible natural disaster.”

“Guess what? A shotgun will keep you a lot safer, a double-barreled shotgun, than the assault weapon in somebody’s hands [who] doesn’t know how to use it, even one who does know how to use it,” the outspoken vice president, a shotgun owner himself, replied. “It’s harder to use an assault weapon to hit something than it is a shotgun. You want to keep people away in an earthquake? Buy some shotgun shells.”

He's right that it's easier to hit something with a shotgun. But if you want to kill a something -- a zombie, for instance -- at some distance, then you need a rifle. With the new fast zombies, you don't want to wait until they're close.

And why is he talking about earthquakes? You don't shoot people during earthquakes. Next time there's an earthquake and Democrats start shooting the survivors, we'll know who to blame.

The exact probability that Biden will win the Democrat nomination in 2016 is 45%, and the exact probability that he will be elected president in 2016 is 10%.

What if women are using the shotguns and assault rifles. Why wasn't that addressed?

I assume he is talking about earthquakes because he was asked about natural disasters. Those are some
bold predictions. How did you arrive at the precise numbers?

Thats what I was taught in handgun training class. The best all around home defense is a shotgun.

Shotguns piss me off when I can't tell wtf the gauge is trying to represent in certain ammo; because of the diameter of the lead, but then all sorts of rinky-dink crap can be put in certain ammunition types that takes away one or two lead spheres ... and then, my head asplode if I'm trying to write out something in detail. No, I will not elaborate on any of what I just posted. Good day sirs and madams :grr:

My favorite part of this whole debate is now "Gun Control" is termed "Gun Safety".

Say what you will about crazy Progressives.. they do know how to change public opinion with just new words and catch phrases.

bold predictions. How did you arrive at the precise numbers?

Well, Biden is a likable person, and he's popular within the Democrat party, and the economy will be better in 2016 than it is now. All of that bodes well for his chances of getting the nomination. But he won't exactly be the incumbent. There will be challengers, perhaps several. Most potential challengers would have little chance of toppling Biden. But if the Big C runs, then it will be a very tough race. If you correctly process all of that information, you will compute a 45% chance of Biden winning the nomination. At this point, the probability that Biden will be the nominee is much higher than the probability of any other person being the nominee.

Moving to the general election.. Republicans lost what should have been their easiest election in 30 years. Republicans are tired of losing. They're finally going to nominate someone who is a reasonable candidate. And let's face it. Even though Biden is like your lovable uncle, he's just a little too goofy to beat a reasonable Republican. Therefore, if Biden is the nominee, his chance of winning the general election is 20%.

When you put those together, you see that today Biden's chance of becoming president is exactly 10% rounded.

Further predictions.. If Biden is the nominee, then the general election will be much tamer and nicer than the 2012 general election because the Republican nominee won't need to throw a lot of dirt to win. It will also be a lot more entertaining. Biden is a natural entertainer. If the Big C is the nominee, then the general election will be a nasty affair, and the dirt will be more hurtful than the 2012 dirt. The Big C clouds everything. It is impossible to see the future if she is the nominee.

I should also have added that at this point, Biden has a higher probability of being elected president in 2016 than any other person.

I forget the name of the load, but my friend bought some hybrid shells for his shotgun and we tested them, those things are nasty. They had a half slug in front, and some large buckshot behind it. The holes it made in the target where brutal.

At close range, even 4 shot will make a mess. If within 15' with a tight choke, it will basically make a 3" diameter hole.

I'm actually in agreement with Biden on this.

So if shotguns are more effective than assault rifles... why wouldn't we ban them?

Because they're more effective at home defense, not at invading schools and killing lots of kids? When you're the defender, you care about things like how far the projectile will carry down range, when you're the invader, presumably you don't care that much. They seem to be more concerned about numbers, so I'm guessing that lugging around 8 boxes of 12 ga shells is probably less appealing than 4 30 round rifle clips and 3 clips for your 9mm. I think at one point so-called "street sweeper" shotguns were banned too weren't they? My recollection is that they held 8-10 rounds or something. Sawed off shotguns are banned too.

If someone invades my home wearing body armor it's probably going to say POLICE across the chest. That's a little bit out of the realm of things I'm going to prepare for.

I don't care if you have body armor on, you take a slug to the chest at close range you're going to be down on the ground and in pain.

Hey, you can still get off shots at the person that fired at you, as numerous incidents involving police shootings and combat in the Middle East has shown. And I think the object of shotguns being good for hard to miss, home defense is to use buck shot, not slugs.

However, for true home defense, just strategically position these all over your house.
