Okay...

Here is the problem. I was in a hurry trying to install my new cd-rom combo and fubared it up, and it took over my second hard drive because it took on one of the same letter drives as the HD. [ new cd rom combo working fine now ]

Awhile ago I put a 8 gig HD into my comp to organize pictures and misc things. For some reason it split the 8 gig HD into a 4G and (2) 2G but this isn't the problem. I have a problem with my second drive. It is only reading 1 out of 3 drives [ e, f, g ] In which case only F is working ever since I installed the cd-rom combo. All the files in F are intact without a problem though.

Now E and G are the problem. My computer sees them in my disk management and for some reason they are completely empty, so says disk management at least, but I can't access them. When I try to open the drive up it says it doesn't exist...WTF!

I suck at explaining things.

Here is the run down.

- Second HD
- Split into 3 Drives [ E, F , G ]
- Only F can be accessed
- E and G are showing up in my Disk Management
- Although they can't be opened [ E and G ]

main question:
How do I fix this....

other questions:
Can this be fixed....
Did I lose 6 gigs of stuff....

other new problems:
- "My Computer" doesn't open up and enters a "not responding" state right away
- The only way I can open up my C drive and the F drive that is working is through Disk Management
- looking through my comp is shit slow
- my comp is starting to get shit slow
- my task bar freezes up constantly

Some Comp Specs:
OS = Windows XP Pro
Running a 2k Athlon XP

I would like to add that asians being good with computers is a stereotype.

Take the HDD out. If you can access everything else, first HDD and CD, then you messed something up on the 8G HDD(why the hell are you wasting time on an 8G? For 4mil silvers and shipping I'll get you a 20G...)

What drive out of the three that the second drive has been partitioned into does your data actually reside? If you can bust the partitions and get it down to two logicals.

Also, make sure both HDDs have their jumpers set to cable select. If you've got it master/slaved wrong it would error on you, though I don't think that's the issue from what you said.

If you can get another computer or a friend to link to your PC and copy your files from the second HDD over then just wipe the bastard.

My personal beliefs "When in doupt reimage the bitch."

I don't hold that same believe.. mostly because I have never been in doupt.

4m = 45 dollars. You can get a 100gb for that.

I'm only bothering with it cause I installed it years back just to store some odds and ends, plus some were rather important.

Actually 4M = 60 Dollars.

No clue, but E is the primary partition, and F and G are the extended/logical partitions. The only drive I can access are C [ my main HD ] and F [ from the second HD ]

What's pissing me off the most is my computer has been lagging on me like a mother fucker, are BOTH of my HDs fucked up?, or installing the new cd rom has made it slower.

It sounds almost exactly like a jumper problem.

Do what someone else said and set the jumpers on your secondary HD and your CD to cable select. It also might be a good idea to check the BIOS real quick, to make sure that your drive selects weren't changed.

I don't think that the hard drive just died suddenly (unless you sent a shock through your computer when you were installing the CD-ROM, but that's pretty rare.) If you have a secondary computer or a friend who would let you put your hard drive into their machine temporarily, I'd do that. Bonus if they have a CD/DVD burner, in which case you could just burn your entire 8 gig hard drive to a batch of CD's, and then buy a REAL hard drive (8 gigs? C'mon) to copy it all over to.

I think slaving your HD to a friend's Computer and doing a back up is a good idea.

Partition Majic may help you consolidate your HD again. You can probably find a copy on Kazaa or Sharazea. There are some Chinese sites that also may have it.

for the guy having problems with the wirless router I have put together a very basic wired/wireless network. What problem are you having exactly?

Maybe this basic tutorial will help

If by dreams you mean uncomfortable nightmares of a sheep humping my leg and giving me all his money...

then yes, yes I have.
