Going to be taking offers on my wizard. He'll come with pretty basic 5-7x gear, and all the containers and useful scrolls I've used with him over the years
He has a fixskill available, and is a master of CoL.

So....what's up with the character you were going to sell me 6 months ago and accepted an offer on? I never heard from you after several PMs.

So I take that as a no? I would kind of like to know either way so I can move on to a different wizard if one becomes available.

er just to be clear you were talking to the OP and not me right? I recall us talking about a rogue a long time back but that I believe was you selling?

I was referring to a case in which the OP went so far as to accept an offer that was made on my original character and then string me and a friend along for quite some time as if the deal would actually go down. I was trying to get back into Gemstone at the time and would have at least liked to know if I should have moved on to other characters that were available. Good times.

Hey, so I contacted this guy about buying this character and we came to an agreement. I sent the money and he's now stopped responding....
How to Avoid Getting Ripped Off When Purchasing Characters:
1. Research the reputation of the seller.
a) if there is already bitching about the person's lack of communication in the same sales thread. That is a big hint there could be problems.
b) get references. Anyone willing to stick their neck out and vouch for the seller? Anyone actually complete whole transactions?
2. Get the person to log the character into game while you are in. Get them to flag on their profession, level, etc.
a) To make sure you're dealing with the right person, make them change their profile quote to something you decide.
b) people are much less likely to scam for an amount they can make honestly. Scammers want to go big or go home.
c) If they do burn you, at least you have a character name to call out as opposed to some throw away PC account and email.
3. Make the seller communicate with you in real time. Transfer the money only when you're both in real time communication.
a) So many sales end up with hard feelings because of this issue. Getting instant feedback with someone is a way to alleviate fears of being scammed.
b) If you send the cash and he doesn't cough up the username/password immediately, you know right away to get Paypal to pull the funds. You might not get your cash back but it is a pain in the ass to keep trying to make paypal accounts that aren't tied to you if they keep getting locked out.
c) Use Paypal.
4. If both of you are unknowns. Use a trusted middle man.

Id prefer for him to attempt to defend himself before displaying my hand. But I'm pretty sure he has nothing further to say in this thread. Coward.

Luftstreitkräfte, thanks for the kind words. It was great dealing with you too, and I would recommend you to anyone. I also recently dealt with RevenantG, who was also a pleasure to deal with, and who has my full recommendation to others.
Alafaya,
I am not a scammer - I am the potential victim here. I'm not sure how you want me to "defend myself", or why I would need defending. I think you should "display your hand", as I don't know what you're talking about, and I'm sure I could defend myself against whatever it is, since I haven't done or attempted to do anything wrong.
I am still hoping that the situation will get rectified, or that at least my money will get refunded. I'm considering releasing the contact email and real life name that's attached to the Paypal account where I sent the money (and what I believe to be his in-game character name to be), but I was hoping that perhaps he would see these posts and do the right thing.

I am completely in the wrong, overstepped my bounds, made wild accusations about an innocent person and am basically a total jerk. Ryandrick, I apologize. Although my accusation was incorrect there was reasoning behind it, which I will explain to you in a PM. Sorry everyone....

What Buck said.
Did you pay through paypal? If you did and didn't gift you should open a dispute and ask for a refund, its a long process, but it is an option.

Yeah this is the big problem with paying with gift. Everyone demands that you pay with a gift when you buy stuff, because they a) don't want to pay the fee and/or b) claim that a payment can be stopped even after it is accepted (which I do not believe it can be.). But when you pay with gift, you pretty much cut yourself off from the paypal dispute process, because well, it was a gift.

If you make a payment through paypal with a credit card and it is not a gift, you can do a charge back on the credit card and in almost every case of this happening Paypal will either take the money from the seller or set their account balance negative.
If you don't want to pay using gift from someone you don't know, there are plenty of people, myself included, who do thousands in transactions using gifts and are willing to third party broker a deal.

So the only missing cog in this is the seller, Mxenna.
A simple screenshot of the transaction through PMs/AIM and another of Paypal screens with their email ought to make some definitive proof. If you charge back and get your money then the person may have just died. If you don't then they probably scammed your ass.

As of yesterday, I was finally refunded the money I sent Ken Yeager (Reltov420, Mxenna, TheRogue, and I'm sure many other names on here - I'm told he plays the character Querthose) for the character scam he pulled on me in January of this year. I sent a paypal gift through paypal, but chose my discover card as the source rather than my bank account. I'm so glad I paid the extra fee, and let me mention how great Discover is.

From reading various threads about people getting scammed I believe that it was decided that either Reltov went insane and started scamming people or he died and someone took over his account to scam people. I'm so glad the guy got his money back. I wish the guy behind the scam would get banned from PayPal.

It'd be nice if he were banned from GS as well, but that's wishful thinking. Congrats on getting your money back!

That's the thing... Why do people have this idea? He has a history of scamming people on the PC that dates back to at least 2010. Yeah, so he made some legitimate sales. I have no idea why people chose to do business with him immediately after he was called out the first time. Fucker didn't even change his PC name at first.

Querthose wasn't very influential. Plus he's been sold more than once.

I think "relatively influential" is a pretty appropriate description, especially if you are a sorcerer into animation or the guild at all. Original Querthose was a good guy.

Querthose has been sold a LOT of times. The original was alright, be as far as influential... If you weren't a sorcerer, good chance you never heard of him.

Yes, I told Discover that it was a purchase, and that the seller never delivered. They made me wait until 30 days after I sent the money, then they took almost another 30 days before refunding, but they did refund me in full.
