open cast 717 - Failure to form a connection with the eye

Does anyone know the reasons/factors that cause an open cast of 717 to fail?

Yes, I have an eye floating in the room, it gives a message along the lines of "you fail to form a connection with the eye".

I've seen that in rooms with blocks to other things such as 725 and 740. Sometimes you can cast 707, but you can't give the eye commands. The system is pretty wonky in general. See if you can ring into/out of the room and/or set it as a location for 740. Call Familiar, Animate Dead, Animal Companion and other such spells may have problems there as well.

I tried some cursory testing some of the other spells while I was seeing it, and it seemed completely random.

I thought that restrictions to ring/740 etc might be the case while trying to use it in Darkstone, as the area is a bit wonky in general, but when it happened doing bandit tasks on the Icemule trail and in Cairnfang as well I wondered if there was more to it.

I'll dedicate some time this weekend to trying it out in different areas, and see how much it varies room to room compared to some other spells.

I'm pretty sure it's a room thing. I highlight rooms it doesn't work in for places I hunt with it regularly

One particular combination that disallows making the connection:

Your eye being in a Grimswarm camp, and you outside of it.

Genius idea, but its a no go. You have to at least be inside of it.
