ok i have ubuntu....now what (need help)

Ok long story short i have come to hate windows. I would like an alternative, so i downloaded ubuntu 12.10 and dual installed it on my laptop alongside windows.
now what i need is some good basic tutorials. anyone able to point me in the right direction?

also. can anyone give me a step by step walkthrough of how to install and run gemstone through ubuntu?

any help will be appreciated
