All Hail the Lich King! on 12/21/2012 10:54 PM EST
Tonight, the Brotherhood of Rooks went about trying to expand their tunnels, with deadly results! A number of scorched and battered bandit corpses were found at a new opening in the Burrow Way tunnels. Many heroes investigated the area, trying to navigate through the cavern darkness. They finally came out in an underground cavern, where they found a gate leading to an dark city called Lich’s Landing, which is filled with hordes of undead and designed to appear like a macabre version of Wehnimer’s! There, the heroes encountered Barnom Slim, who has now become a lich and self-proclaimed king of the area. Despite the trade of barbs, veiled threats and vague information, no further violence was reported.
OOC NOTE:
The Lich’s Landing is the new temporary hunting zones open for the remainder of the storyline! There’s a few minor shops ( nothing special ) and even an undead tavern! There’s 8 different zones, and the entire place ranges from levels 5-120. Enjoy discovering which areas you can survive in!

The lower portion of the citadel has 90s level mobs it seems. The upper portion has upwards of 120.
We've got...
a whirling soul wraith - disappears like Ithzir... hurray.
A whirling soul wraith claws at XXX!
AS: +418 vs DS: +400 with AvD: +7 + d100 roll: +59 = +84
A clean miss.
a lumbering hideous shrickhen
Didn't let these live long enough to get anything off them.
a glowing-eyed spirit golem - Looks like these are steroid enhanced soul golems.
A glowing-eyed spirit golem pounds at XXX with its glaes gauntleted left fist!
AS: +430 vs DS: +400 with AvD: +32 + d100 roll: +37 = +99
A clean miss.
A glowing-eyed spirit golem tries to ensnare XXX in its solid glaes arms!
AS: +450 vs DS: +368 with AvD: +32 + d100 roll: +58 = +160
... and hits for 4 points of damage!
Impotent blow.

The Horrors are also a somewhat lower level, I believe. They seemed to be the weakest enemies around.
The Shricken are stronger than real Shricken, because I could 100% ward them 10 levels ago, and these I only have about a 60% on.
The Apparitions and Death Knights are the tough ones, I can't even ward the Death Knights. They can e-wave, cast fear spells, and apparently, Major E-Wave as well. I'm Commander Shepard, and this is the strongest mob in the Citadel!

Important to note that the death knights can disarm as well. Be careful in there. Also, the apparitions carry staffs and have the resulting high DS and block rate of around 50%, but you can't disarm them. Maddening.

Death Knights, which were released with Wrath of the Lich King in WoW, have a skill called Blood of the North, babble babble babble, therefore that's why his name makes sense.

So... Rooks(bandits) have been tunneling under the landing creating tunnels that access a number of high-profile shops as well as the moot hall. They're trying to take over. They've been trying to extort shopkeepers for "protection" money.
Anyway... undead has also been invading the landing. So yeah.
Well the Rooks accidently burrowed too deeply and found the lich's "kingdom"... which just happens to be a warped and twisted version of the Landing. Its full of undead baddies of all levels. The lich himself turned out to be Barnom Slim, who was once a councilman of the Landing during the Grishom Stone Storyline before he ran off with the town's coffers.
Some shenanigans occurred in RR which I think he had something to do with, I was not playing during this time.
Hope that helps.

So how do you access this area? I'm intrigued, but not enough to do any actual research.

So how do you access this area? I'm intrigued, but not enough to do any actual research.
You go first to Burrow Way, the undertunnels in the Landing. There are a ton of entrances and twice as many exits. Most popular seem to be from the trapdoor in Helga's back alley or the trapdoor in the Fishing shack. Here is a somewhat outdated map of the Burrow Way (I'll be updating it soon)
http://www.krakiipedia.org/w/images/c/c1/WL-Burrow_Way.jpg
From the central nexus, there is NOW a 5th path going west (its not shown on the current map). Following this will lead to a dark path which you have to sort of stumble through, and lead out to Lich's Landing. Its layout is vaguely similar to the Landing, in that it has the Gate-TSC areas, and a few branches leading out from there. The outside is inhabited by low level undead, maybe like low level Graveyard? 5-10? There are a few shops which actually sell products.
Then, there are the larger buildings and a side road, each of which has higher level enemies of various levels. It will be a pretty viable hunting ground for a lot of level ranges for the time it is there.
I'm going to try to have a map up of Lich's Landing by tomorrow if I can. I've made a general map of all areas but the Barracks (because of its dark areas), and will try to refine it, though it takes a while.

Alright, here is a more up to date version of the Burrow Way map. http://www.krakiipedia.org/w/images/archive/c/c1/20121223063123%21WL-Burrow_Way.jpg
Then, here is a map of Lich's Landing. I don't have a creature list, but the Banshee Tower, Barracks and Citadel are the higher end locations. http://www.krakiipedia.org/w/images/9/91/WL-Lich%27s_Landing.png

Here is some quick information that I found down in the tunnels. In the Lich’s Landing area there are some basic shops, which I listed below. I am 75 and found exp in the Banshee tower; I would guess they are around 80 there. In addition, the Death Giants in the barracks gave some exp and they are probably around 75. Lastly, I lasted 2 seconds in the citadel, quite deadly in there.
Lich’s Landing:
An ambling red-eyed skeleton swings a dagger at you!
You evade the attack with ease!
A shambling putrid ghoul claws at you!
With blinding speed, you dodge the attack!
[The Spirits]
Swathes of elven, dwarven and human hides decorate the walls of this establishment like macabre tapestries. A narrow bar shaped out of a giant ribcage stretches across the room, its top set with bleached bone plates as a makeshift counter. Behind the bar roams an eyeless giantman zombie, spilling more drinks than filling them. A row of hide-covered wooden stools provide a place to rest and drink.
Obvious exits: out
>sit on stool
You settle yourself on the wooden stool for a moment's rest.
s>look on bar
On the bone bar you see a shot of bright red whiskey, a bottle of Dreadful drought, some bubbling Afterlife ale, a flute of murky red wine and a flagon of amber Lich liquor.
[Shield of the Shrickhen]
Bits and pieces of bone-inlaid armor adorn the walls, while shields hang upon another. Scraps of metal and bone are littered across the floor, while a misshapen and grotesque shrickhen scrambles about, restocking the supply. You also see a scratched wooden counter with some stuff on it.
Obvious exits: out
>look on counter
On the wooden counter you see a suit of blood red brigandine, a dented and bloodstained breastplate, some steel leg greaves, some dark steel bracers, a red-horned black steel helm, a bone-edged grey steel shield and some dark steel bone-inlaid plate.
[Quarrels and Quivers]
Panels of old, rotted wood covers the walls, stained with blood and gore. Shelves seem to grow from the wood, their surfaces holding a number of merchandise. An assortment of bows hang from hooks along a wall. You also see a long wooden shelf with some stuff on it.
Obvious exits: out
>look on shelf
On the wooden shelf you see a bundle of black crossbow bolts, a bundle of black wooden arrows, a bundle of frost-tipped bolts, a bundle of frost-tipped arrows, a carved yellow bone-inlaid crossbow, a dark sinew-wrapped longbow and a bone-set black leather quiver.
[Weapons Wight Away]
The interior of the shop reveals all manner of bladed weapons, from daggers to twohanded swords. Most of the weaponry is wrought of dark steel, each wrapped with old leather or sinew. A gnarled zombie ogre weaponsmith shambles behind a long wood counter.
Obvious exits: out
>look on counter
On the wooden counter you see a jagged pale steel dagger, a large sinew-wrapped warhammer, a bone-hilted dark steel greatsword, a bone-hilted red steel handaxe, a bone-hilted grey steel broadsword and a bone-hilted black steel longsword.
[Dress the Dead]
All manner of clothes are piled high on a long flat table, each garment tattered, torn, frayed or mismatched. Flies buzz around the head of the goblin zombie shopkeeper, who tends to himself in a corner, sewing patches on a pair of tattered pants.
Obvious exits: out
>look on table
On the flat table you see a moth-eaten brown sack, a stained grey leather bag, a tattered ebon doublet, an old discolored tunic, a pair of ragged old gloves, a torn black leather longcoat, an old hole-covered hat, a threadbare russet brown cloak, some toeless brown leather boots, some green patch-covered pants, some frayed black leather pants and a pair of tattered brown pants.

As an FYI on the banshee tower:
A towering flesh construct shudders as a green miasma seeps from numerous cracks and orifices in the construct and forms a huge noxious cloud that wafts directly towards you.
Before you can move out of the path of the cloud, it envelops you from head to toe. Straining, you hurriedly back out of the toxin filled vapors, only catching a small whiff of the horrid gases.
A thin moaning banshee claws at you!

Large gash to your left arm, several muscles torn.

A faint silvery glow fades from around you.
The bright luminescence fades from around you.
The shimmering multicolored sphere fades from around you.

The Banshee's had their AS flares reduced to +100 AS. Should be a bit safer.
In other news, the lower Citadel creatures are now roaming the streets. Be wary.
Further question: To those who used or liked my maps, (Burrow Way being my 2nd ever and Lich Landing being my 3rd), should I continue making them? I rather enjoyed it, and I don't know if I have any potential at all. If there are any people want to see made, I can test my skills out on particular maps. Either way, I'm open to feedback.

The map was perfect... There are still many of the areas of the game that are not mapped! I think there's a couple hunting grounds in Vaalor, and maybe some sections of Rivers Rest as well. Plus, I think a lot of the old maps could use an update for the most recent decade.

Name me a location, and I will map it, or die trying.
I know that Ravelin and Sorcerer's Isle were mapped, as well as the new path to Ta'Illistim and the maps are on Krakiipedia. I can't think of anything else in Vaalor that needs work.
I've spent very little time in RR, but I believe the same has occured there. But yeah. I actually like mapping, and I know I need to improve on my skills to a degree. I thought the Lich Landing map was really cramped, I haven't quite mastered "spreading everything out" the way Tsoran and others have done, because I don't like making the squares quite so small, but that may be part of learning the ropes.

Thanks Kastrel for your safe passage into this shadow town.
Are there any nodes here? Is there a place where people are gathering, for healing and such?
Kastrel
12-27-2012, 04:24 PM
Well, I myself (and a handful of others) would occasionally linger in Shade Square, but it is not a sanct, and I don't think its a node. The lack of sanct was fine before, but now that level 90 creatures are roaming the streets, its not safe there.
I haven't tested it empirically, but I never saw any creatures in any of the shops. The Spirits, the dark equivalent of Helga's, might make for an interesting hang out, if it is actually safe.
I've requested that SSC be made into an unsancted node, but I don't know if it ever happened, or if it will.
