View Full Version : Lack of fantasy FPS...

Ever since Project Offset got axed in DEV, I've been wondering why there haven't been more games in the fantasy-based FPS genre. I don't really know what the aversion is; I haven't seen a similar game since Heretic or Hexen from the 90's. Take MW2 and make it fantasy and good times are to be had.

There's a link to a gameplay video of Project Offset. Looked so promising.

TERA online can kinda play like a Third Person shooter... but it's MMO... Basically, no concept of accuracy, it's just whether or not the critter is in range, and if you can target properly.

You could always try Firefall and that is F2P.

Firefall isn't really fantasy, that's a traditional gun FPS.

I suppose Skyrim cannot be considered a true FPS, as there are no guns. Archery doesn't cut it. I'm surprised there isn't a mod that just gives everyone M16's. Head mounted cannons for the dragons.
FPS's tend to swing more towards Sci-fi than high fantasy, as high fantasy doesn't typically involve guns.

One of my students was trying to mod in the Fallout New Vegas weapons.

I'm actually considering going back through FONV. Once you add 40-50 mods the game is actually fun!

True about most of the Bethesda stuff. I dig it more than Fallout 3, replayability wise.

See, to me FONV seemed like a glorified expansion to FO3, and I played a LOT of FO3. That, and I dig the era of FO3 more than the western theme of FONV. Mods fix pretty much all of this, though.

Too many subways. Better story in FONV. Apart from that, though, I agree. It certainly wasn't a huge advancement gameplay wise.

Like a Medieval FPS is like Chivalry?

Just checked out the main page video of Chivalry. Looks awesome; how does it play?

Mount & Blade is pretty fun, though it is a Medieval FPS. Chivalry is purely MP I think.

Are you serious? 0_o Have you played it?
From what I have played there are definitely some fantasy aspects to it. I guess it depends on what kind of fantasy you're talking about.

I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took--
::fires mini-nuke (archery radiation prevention/explosion perk [of course])::
SKYRIM BELONGS TO MR. HOUSE OF NEW VEGAS AND HIS UPGRADED ROBOTIC ARMY, BITCH.
Nords are still OP in Operation Anchorage imho.

It'd be as awesome as Nobunaga's Ambition/Pokemon.

I'm not really all that interested in some gun-fantasy cross-over. I was just hoping for a fantasy-based, 1st person game. Especially a kickass game with perks and leveling up like MW2. It's exactly what Project Offset was gonna be. Big "vehicles" like steam tanks, large mounts, shit like that.

Love those games. Which of the two had classes? I remember classes.
Off topic: Redneck Rampage and Hunted!

Sorry cracker-boy McGee for bumping this, but I fucking kill a dragon and realized hip-hop music doesn't play when I zoom to third person and watch my dude consume its soul. I could do that with the 360 dashboard or have some shit on Winamp or whatever ready to play in the background, but no. I would get so hype off that.
